  I'm always impressed with how they try their best to communicate in the language of whichever countries they visit. English is a common language learned in school in many countries and economically speaking it's an important one. That said... English is HARD as it breaks so many of it's own rules with verbs and grammar. I speak English as a first language. I spoke a little Tagaloc and Japanese as a child and completely forgot them except for a few words. I spent several years learning German and that wasn't too bad as English & German share a lot of things. I took Latin in college... that was awful. No wonder it's considered a dead language.... but I use the roots daily when teaching science. My Spanish is very poor. I can order beer and probably offend someone with my bad Spanish skills enough to get arrested and never get out. I learned some very basic Korean while learning Kuk Sool Won, the national Korean Martial Art. I can count and say all the polite terms like hello, thank you, excuse me (like when calling the waiter)... stuff like that. But I've recently started trying to learn more. It's constructed backwards from English which is also what makes English hard for our guys because English is backwards to them... plus there's all the formal/informal words. Worst of all is trying to learn Hangul (the Korean alphabet). So far, I think I've gotten down just 4 vowels. 😅. I'd love to visit South Korea in 2026 after all the guys have been back together a bit. To do that I need much better Korean both spoken and written. My science students are cutely helping me. Instead of calling them to attention in English or clapping.... I call out (jeogiyo) "excuse me" and they respond with (Ne!) YES! "Ye" is the older and probably more correct work for YES... but younger Koreans say "Ne" (pronounced Nay) of someone close to them in age or gender.
