  The scariest part is that you have to pray to beat Giygas. It's not the fact that you have to pray, but the fact that there's absolutely nothing you can do. You're hopeless in this fight. You can't even comprehend what Giygas is. You can't tell his form or anything. And he speaks so confusingly, like not even Goygas knows who he is anymore. You're so hopeless that all you can do is pray. What's heartwarming and even tear-jerking is that it works. With all your loved ones and the friends you made along the way somehow giving you the strength you need to defeat this unimaginable being.

  Growing up, I always felt that the method to defeating Giygas reminded me of using the Spirit bomb from Dragon Ball Z, but maybe that's just because as a teen, I got exposed to tons of media.

  I fell in love with this battle the 2nd or 3rd time I saw it, then I showed it to my poor friends with little context. Also, to make this battle more depressing, enter Ness' name as "Maria". (For those of you who don't know, there's lore. You won't regret reading it. You'll never look at Giygas the same way again.)

  Assuming my calculations are correct Giygas has around 50000 health (During the praying part) So in theory, if you fight him for long enough you might be able to win without praying

Not so fun fact: this final boss is based on the creators traumatic experience of entering the wrong theater as a kid and seeing horrors worse than torture that lost his innocence Oh what's the point...   This boss scared the shit outta me when a kid. The game is all cutesy the entire time, then out of nowhere it throws a satanic courage the cowardly dog villain at you. Didn't sleep for days lmao

  THAT badly huh? If I had seen this when I was kid, it might have been WAY too unnerving It's one of those times when you get so scared as a kid but get used to it as you get older. But considering Giygas (when you learn his backstory in Earthbound Beginnings) It takes away some of the horror as he has his mind and body destroyed against his will. He isn't totally evil at the beginning, but became a horrifying abomination when he didn't want to, which _terrifies_ us to many with the graphics, and music, and how he repeats "Ness" and "it hurts."

  Earthbound was a game made like something from the imagination of a child. In a way, Giygas makes since in this theme. It looks like the result of a child seeing something he wasn’t supposed to see and letting his imagination go crazy.
