Your introduction could really scare people. You should differentiate between foraminal stenosis, and central canal stenosis, when talking about quadropalegia.

I’m hoping I’m not the only one thinking that this sounds ridiculous. Let’s leave the problem. Take away the pain which is great but doesn’t fix the problem that is going to become a bigger problem down the road you would think we would have the technology to fix the problem that’s causing the pain. I am in the same boat as most people with back pain and dealing with it for years and just wish they would be a better fix to it. That would be available to most people that don’t have a fat bankroll.

I have severe cervical stenosis primarily on the left, at multiple levels, I also have M.S., due to the diagnosis of M.S I have had a neurosurgeon tell me that I would be too difficult to operate on and assess. I have a great deal of pain, worsened with most movements of my left arm, accompanied by weakness on the left side, also worsened with movement of my neck.

For the past three months, I've had neck pain radiating down both of my arms into my wrists and fingers. It all started after I was dealing with heavy boxes full of Christmas decorations and antiques. I also get occasional chest and shoulder pains. X-ray showed mild disc narrowing in c4-c5 and c4-c6. I think I may have permanently wrecked my spine.

This was very informative thank you for making this. I wanted to clarify one thing you said, you said people with severe issues are more often than not benefit more from surgery than something like PT? I was recently just diagnosed with severe right foraminal stenosis in my C6 C7 and i have tingling in my right pointer finger, right arm pain and discomfort around the base of my neck. I go for steroids injections Monday and then into PT. Hopefully I didnt misquote you. I am just looking for some additional level of comfort, direction and color. Appreciate ya!

This is the best explanation of progressive cervical spine disease I’ve seen. I’m scheduled for cervical disc replacement next week, and now I understand the “stepped” myelopathy symptoms that I’ve experienced for years that get written off as aging/anxiety. I’m a graphic artist and have experienced bouts of not being able to control my dominant hand. It’s not until significant pain enters the equation that things take on a sharper focus. Don’t know whether I’ll get control of my hand back at this point, but it is helpful to know it’s not all in my head, so to speak. Thanks for the deep dive, Doc!

This procedure seems to be a more sensible approach. The idea of removing an anatomical part of the body that has a purpose for it's design, and then to try to think that the person can live without that part of his anatomy; is stupid in my opinion. Yes, I believe that proper nutrition can assist bones and eventually cause the body's enzymes to "eat away" a portion of the spur, or osteophyte. But I believe that takes a long time. I'm considering this option if my non-surgical decompression treatments don't completely alleviate my pain. I have several herniations or bulges of disc with I believe some spurs growing off my vertebral bodies that are also irritating the nerve roots to my leg. Need to revisit my MRI's with a spine surgeon or neurologist and see if the ultrasonic drill would be the solution. Thanks for posting this well illustrated 3D video!
