    Whats your advise or tips for offset backing the first version? No one has full information everyone give the first two steps and then after that they just say back up. That doesn't help.

    In school, we were taught to turn the tractor till we saw a certain point on the trailer, straighten, then turn the other way till we saw a different point on the trailer then straighten. With every truck/trailer combo being slightly different, me giving you that info would be useless. Offsets, parallel, and alley all require a lot of practice to gain the feel needed to pull them off. Each brand of truck turns quicker/slower than the other so i can’t give you a time to hold the turn either. No throw in day cabs, which turn very quick versus a sleeper. In other words, the variables make it very difficult to explain via text only. Get yourself a cheap model truck and trailer combo and set these scenarios up and walk through them as if you’re in the cab. Think about what you need to do. If you’re offsetting from left to right, you need to first push the noise of the trailer to the left which means steering to the left (point the truck to the right). You don’t need to go all the way to jack knife cuz of the amount of time it takes to get back straight, you will have over shot your spot. Once you’re straight, you straight back until the tail end of your trailer is about 10 feet out of the spot you’re going into. (Another variable that will make a huge difference is where your tandem’s are set at (further up means quicker turns and more tail swing and the opposite for tandems all the way back)) Once you’re there, you’ll be positioned roughly 45 degrees pointing left of your spot so you need to push the nose of your trailer right in order to line it up with the spot. Turn your wheel right then just before you’re lined up, steer all the way left until you’re straight. If your timing was good, all you have to do at this point is straight back into the spot. Remember, GOAL Get Out And Look!! Especially when practicing. Do it as often as you need but get good enough to where you only need 1 or 2 cuz that’s all you’ll get during your test. I hope that helps

    This video I hope helps me I’m in class I wouldn’t say my instructor is bad at all he has a different technique he says if you put your hand on the bottom of the wheel just turn the wheel the direction you want your trailer to go my issue was always over steering but I want to try this out because I don’t feel 100% confident yet

  • @RushinTruckin

    Which is better? This or the Garmin version?

  • @RushinTruckin
    @RushinTruckin2 ай бұрын

    That’s the age ol’ debate 🤣 it’s the same as asking iphone vs Android. They’re both capable and good/frustrating in their own ways so it comes down to which operating system you prefer. Garmin is more simple with less on the screen whereas RM is a bit busier with more info on the screen…I prefer the RM in that aspect. There are 2 things Garmin has that RM doesn’t and that’s the ability to drag or edit your route which can be really nice and it will automatically recognize a slow down in traffic and suggest an alternate route (if there is one)(have to be connected to your phone via the Garmin app). If RM had those 2 features, I’d recommend them hands down. Even without them, I prefer RM. Hope that helps

    That’s so nice of you! I’ve always referred to Garmin as the iPhone (simple, less features) and the Rand McNally as the Android (a little busier Home Screen with more info). At their core, they’ll each get you where you’re going so it comes down to which operating system you prefer. Maybe that’ll help you choose.

    So giving RM another try. And doing the updates on it. Some of the updates say installing and others say they're still downloading and it just stays like that nothing changes. I have the Verizon home wifi box in my truck and i get good service with it in majority of the places I go to. I even left it alone over night and it's still doing the same thing. Ive returned/exchanged it for like 4 different units and they're all doing the same thing.
