Grazie Stefano Italia.

well this is the second time in my life trying to play a quena, and i get wonderful notes by accident. i can't get the lowest note and i'm wondering 'seriously - if the cut in the top of the Quena is correct because it's very shallow

Have you completed your quest to find the ideal quena/quenacho yet? What was the lowest note of that large quena and how high of a note were you looking to achieve to be in tune? Have you considered one made of PVC? Far more craftable and cheaper, though just does not look as authentic. I am asking because I am reading up a lot on the physics and flute hole calculators and will embark on my own quest to make an even tempered quena/quenacho made of PVC. All from zero experience 😄

Great tutorial and very encouraging. Do you however, have any advice for people with no lower teeth or poorly fitting dentures? I am Kwahadi (Comanche nation) and have played Native American flute for about 35 years. I finally decided to branch out and learn the quena and the pan flute. I recently made a CD titled Kindred Spirits, and was accompanied by the wolves at the Colorado Wolf & Wildlife Center here in Colorado. Loved doing that, and was wondering if my next one could be with the Native American flute and thee quena. I think it will be fun! I am having a bit of trouble changing octaves with the quena though. I believe your video will give me some tools to master this (I hope!).

Hmm, that's different from the embouchure I was taught for quena. It's too late to try tonight as the quena is very loud but I'll give it a try tomorrow and see how it goes. The method I was taught was tighten the chin and protrude the lower lip while tightening the upper lip as with a grin. So, pout and grin at the same time. I do get a nice tone on my home made quena and have done some amateur performing, but in recent years and now a senior, I'm not playing as much & finding control more difficult to maintain. So I will try your way and see if this improves, thanks.

Thank you, I am absolutely amazed.I cut 2 pieces of PVC,one to try a single pan flute pipe and the other for a Quena just to try the concepts to see if it was a doable project. The pan pipe worked so I started on a G3/4 Quena and just cut the embouchure and thought I would see if it worked before drilling more holes. I blew like I was blowing a pan pipe and nothing happened and then remebered the Wuauquikuna guys used a different embouchure for the Quena. I have read that some folks try for hours to get a sound but I started watching this video and was making a tone halfway through it. I know nothing about flutes, just keyboards and saxophone which is a simple reed anyone can blow. This guy is great. Thanks again.

Veri nice!!! Thanks.❤️ Friend, Artist and Master. Hi, dear Artist and dear friend, I'm Alessio Peluso from Bologna (Italy). For three months I have been learning to play Quena, magnificent instrument, together with the panflute! For some time I have not been able to emit clean notes, especially those of the second and third octave. Could it be due to the humidity that is created in the cut of the bit? Can you give me some advice on how to treat and take care of the instrument? Apart from studying and repeating the exercises, what can I do? Thank you so much my friend
