Many feel the same way. Not regulating and assigning frequencies for all the things that use RF would be chaos. Imagine if you had constantly fight with cell phone users or garage door openers? At least we have some power through our votes to fend off the big money power users.

What is the best mic setting, soundwise? Theres a 2ch option and a 5.1 Surround sound. Then theres the option of turning the audio volume up via manual settings for each mode or using the automatic option. What is the best setting?

I wish that the manufacturers of two way radios would produce more of the units in the blaze orange color, especially the GMRS versions. These are excellent for camping and hiking, so when you drop one on the trails, they are easily found. The color is great to give out as a loaner, or for children.

Thanks for all your informative videos, just received my TD H3 today and was wondering what the new features were that weren't in the manual. I had no problems upgrading the firmware to the newest version, today. I'm pretty much new to GMRS, but I like having all the other options to listen to and keep up with what's going on around the area. My neighbor is a HAM, so I get help from him on technical issues.

As a hunter, camper, hiker I’m interested in the radios mapping functions. Even though you only have one radio I hope that in a future video you will tell about tracking a partner on the mapping app. It appears that Vero has produced a radio with the exact same features. Yes, my hands-on with the VGC VR-N7500 showed it to be basically the same transceiver, but in a mobile format and 50w. Same app is used.

Please do a video on the Retevis RA87 40W Long Range GMRS Mobile Radio. There are not many videos on this radio or any that are informative like yours. It's a great help how you go through the menu systems. And the Windows 11 software program from Retevis looks a little different than other programs. Would love to see some examples of programming this radio. It has a dual watch and when in the program it has a button for switching to the left and right side of the screen. I'm wondering after you put ctcss codes on channels on the left side if you have to then have to add to the right side? Thanks for all your help on several different radios in the past. I actually ordered this radio, you will find it has many bells and whistles. Thank You!

Excellent video. I am a total n00b to mobile radios but a veteran at reading government regs. Your “translation” was easy to understand and follow. I’ll be reviewing your whole series on the subject! I do have a question in an area you briefly touched and reading the reg did NOT translate in my brain. As I understand it FRS and GMRS share some of the same channels. Am I to understand that a GMRS radio CAN be used as an FRS unit (but not the other way around? If so, how do you/the FCC/another user tell if you are using your GMRS unit as an FRS radio vs GMRS (and therefore having no requirement to use your call sign, etc.? Of course, if my initial premise is wrong, then the question is moot. Thanks.

FRS and GMRS use the same channels (frequencies). The difference is in the radio's. FRS uses a narrow bandwidth and lower authorized power output. If you have a GMRS license and GMRS radio, interacting with FRS radios is fine. Using a radio not certified as FRS would violate the rules. It would be unlikely anyone but you would know if you were unlicensed using a GMRS radio, so long as you didn't try repeater operation which is not available in FRS. Licenses are cheap. Get one and enjoy your radios. Cheers and thanks for watching.

Try opening the CPS and then write to the radio. Most of the time you'd first read, but in this case, write first.

@@randyhuggins3628 Sorry, download the customer programming software from radioddity. Install it on a Windows computer. Use the programming cable to upload the channels into the radio. I show it in the video. I also have a more general video on my channel about using a CPS to program radios.

I just got kicked off of a GMRS repeater for calling someone a dip sh on a video gate that I posted on my own Facebook page while doing a check in video recording, I did not do this over the GMRS repeater only on my video gate check In video, now my question is will the FCC back them and the repeater owner or me lol, I repeat I was not keyed down on the repeater when this was said

The FCC isn't making the complaint. They have nothing to do with it. The repeater owner ( I assume) did it. Unfortuantely its kinda like you asking someone to leave your house. Your house, your rules. Sorry that happened to you. Perhaps a Mea Culpa?

I looked up the FCC ID for my AR-5RM (I can't find concrete differences between he 5RM, UV-5RM and AR-5RM) and it appears to only be certified for RX.

This radio is a hard pass, I’m extremely disappointed because I have the DB20G and it’s a great, feature packed radio that WILL transmit and receive on 2M-440 as well as GMRS making it truly useful for a mobile. And the DB20 works with CHIRP, and there’s no limit to the customization. When I heard they were releasing this, I was set to jump on one until I saw the reviews, and it’s somewhat astonishing to me that Radioddity decided to release this placebo of a radio.

I am confused about something. HRO will mars mod your radio for a fee so how is that legal?

MARS mods are for ham radios for operators who are affiliated with the MARS system. Not many services still use MARS so it is a bit obsolete. Hams have the responsibility to operate in authorized bands. GMRS operators aren't given that responsibility so thus no test, etc. Their authorized frequencies are managed by the radio iteself. A MARS modded ham radio is not authorized for GMRS use. Using it would make the user an unauthorized user regardless if they had a GMRS license or not.

The J-Pole antenna is ineffective. J-Pole they are not omni-directional, and they do not have any gain over a ground plane antenna. In fact, they usually have a small loss compared to a ground plane. Also they aren't very robust. The power goes through the matching system, which is balanced, and then to the unbalanced radiator. This mixture of balanced and unbalanced often distorts the radiation pattern. It also makes matching a challenge.

I have several UV-5Rs and bought the UC-21R and bought it as much for the expanded accessories as the extended range. I plan to use it in home, rather than outside as the manuel states rain will damage it - also, Amazon says it is not waterproof as are the UV-5Rs. This UV-21 are good for auto or home - keep her dry.

New question. recently i did a repeater update using the software. After radio rebooted it only displayed the repeaters and not the names that I entered for each repeater. Can you advise me on how to get names to display again?
