    Great video! Good solid advice. I've actually rewatched it several times lately, it's that good. One question: Why are the wipes called "chucks" or "chunks" (my cloth ears can't quite make out which)?

    Hi Fless, great video. What tyre pressure did you run on the first 600km of corrugated road

  • @FastFless
    @FastFless Жыл бұрын

    Andrew - I find about 25 - 28 psi on corrugated roads is best for an average loaded 4 cyl 4x4 ute. Even lower is better, but you run the risk of overheating tyres/spiked sidewalls.

    Cheers Fless, Love ya work. Just completed our 2nd trip in 12 months of the Simpson with the latest May 2022 with a group using 6 x WW2 Willys Jeeps and 2 support vehicles. Had an awesome trip would love to know what camera equipment you use as all our footage is jumpy and not as easy to watch as yours. Looking at doing the Madigan Line in April 2023.

  • @FastFless
    @FastFless2 жыл бұрын

    Mainly a GoPro (6, I think) + an older video camera. Image stabilisation makes a big difference. Also, keep using a wider angle (less jumpy), then crop it later in your editing program if necessary ( I use the free Davinci Resolve - really good program but a bit difficult to learn). My first video attempts were awful - and still aren't that good - but they are fun to make. Good luck!

    I'm going there tomorrow but I've never climbed before and I'm about 40kg over weight I walk 20km 3 times as week so I think I should be fit enough. However I'm scared watching that video I recon it would take me 3 times as long to get down that mountain. otherwise I would die. Would you think I would be all right to climb it with everything I've told you?

  • @FastFless
    @FastFless2 жыл бұрын

    40kg overweight? If you walk 60km per week you should be OK. Coming down is scarier than going up - just keep looking ahead to see the best path. Going up is more physically demanding. It would be difficult to fall any great distance (except at the very top). There is one very tight squeeze point - you may have to find a way around it. Take plenty of water. Good luck!

    Hi is possible to ride in Moreton with a normal mountain bike?

  • @FastFless
    @FastFless2 жыл бұрын

    Definitely yes! In fact I reckon a MTB makes more sense than a fat-bike. I circumnavigated the island in 24 hrs on a MTB many years ago - I was fitter/younger! Fat bikes are too heavy, and you really still can't ride in soft sand with them. Just use a MTB, let the tyres down a little and really pick your tides for riding. MTB is better on hard sand than a fat bike! Fless

    @@FastFless thank a lot for your message, is it possible to go and make the lap of the island entirely on the beach? Can you give me some directions? Please help me as I want go tomorrow if you have 5 minutes.

  • @FastFless
    @FastFless2 жыл бұрын

    @@robertov1781 Tomorrow...are you kidding? You need to book camp permits and the MiCat ferry. You also need to download a National Parks map. Travel south from the ferry at Tangalooma. There is some water available at a handpump in off the beach south of Shark Spit (the water tastes terrible). Cross the island when you get to the small sandhills (look at the map on my video closely). Do not try to ride around the southern end of the island - those sand tracks are very soft. Camp at Eagers Creek on the way north on the ocean beach. The creek water is ok to drink - but take some water purification tablets. Camp at North Point on Cape Moreton - water available. You cannot cross the creek on the northern side of the island at anything other than a hour either side of low tide. You can only ride on the sand 2 hours each side of low tide on the inside of the island and 3 hours either side of low tide on the ocean beach. I've been exploring Moreton Island for 50 years and know it like the back of my hand. Even though it's close to Brisbane it's quite remote for cycling - there is only one food shop at Bulwer. I would be concerned if you think this ride is easy and are not properly prepared re water, food and shelter. Ta Fless

    @@FastFless thank for you time. I had already booked the tickets weeks ago, so for me was the same with bike or not. In the end we decided to go without bikes, at tangalooma camping. It was amazing. I have checked, as you said that is possible to ride normal mtb at very low tide, but I believe that is not worth, as you also need to carry stuff for camping, and other things. Best way to explore, by my humble opinion is a 4wd. Or kayak.
