    Hi @roryscott1976 ... I am trying to figure out how your opponent made it to the finals. Maybe he blocks better than it appears... he doesn't do much damage on attacks... but maybe players miss a lot (like you did) trying to macho man crush kill on counter-attack... maybe he entices opponents to wildly attack when not quite set with leverage and timing... maybe he entices people to attack the serves and miss... maybe that day no one could read his serves (doubt that)... maybe the field was weak but I doubt it. Well, he made it to the final and damn what anyone would disrespect him HOW he got to the finals, it HAD to be SKILL.

    @@DerEchteJ yes he looks easier than he is and gets a lot back. He has short pimples on his backhand which can be awkward. His side of the draw was weakened by the number 2 and 3 seeds pulling out as well.

    @@roryscott1976 and @4k-ut8mg ... I mostly agree with Rory's assessment. Rory's 3rd ball winning percentage was near 50/50 it seemed. I feel Rory would have better chances on 4th ball with his FH if he was looking to do that vs this opponent. Rory looked secure to give the serve return kinda slow and easy long to his opponent's FH to get into a chopping rally that Rory feels more comfortable and confident. Maybe could have returned serve wide or at body and go 4th ball FH... but I wasn't there and Rory was... and Rory made the final and I didn't.

    Some very nice rallies - very enjoyable to watch! Just one thing though - I don't think Sammy's serves are legal. It looks like he's standing at the side of the table 😕 For a serve to be legal, you must be standing behind the table! On another note, in the office my colleagues call me "The Punisher" 😉 I don't just win, I punish those I play 🤣I haven't had any formal training, just learnt how to play table tennis in the office. My technique is very unorthodox, but very effective.

    Hello Rory, I will be playing a hardbat player whom I be never beaten at an upcoming tournament. It seems I always miss my smashes against him, hitting long off the table with my inverted rubber. Do you think a flat kill rather than topspin kill would be better? Or I can twiddle to long pips ox and try a pseudo loop kill shot (which I haven’t attempted against him before) possibly? Any advice you can share would help, thanks!

  • @roryscott1976
    @roryscott19762 ай бұрын

    Sounds like you’re overhitting due to there being less backspin on the hard bat shots. You’re better off going forwards over the ball. If it’s shoulder height or above do a flat kill/smash & if it’s lower then play a fast topspin kill.
