Another note.... my dad had several steam cards over the years. He was very meticulous about the restoration of each of them. If he could not find the original parts, he would have them made from scratch. He was so into boilers, he restore the boiler heating system in our 1908 American Foursquare house that was about 4,000 sq ft. The holding tank for the water was as big as a small swimming pool, and was located in sort of the basement part of a fruit shed behind our house. I never understood why he wouldn't let me go swimming in that pool!

I grew up in this car! My dad was Richard Hempel and Howard Hughes was his idol. My dad got the car after a series of trades with Bill Harrah. I can attest to the 600,000 miles and how fast it went. My mom would get mad at him when he drove us kids too fast, but one time we did get up to 98 mph. He was pushing for a 100 mph , but he got nervous because it was shaking so much. Quite frankly, it scared me too We personally added many of the 600,000 miles. We did tours all across the United States. When we moved from Missouri to Idaho, my dad drove the car out. While I'm not well versed in the mechanics, I can maybe answer other questions about the car's history. Such fun memories! That rumble seat was huge and the boiler was right at our feet. When we toured northern Idaho in the fall, it was literally freezing cold and my friends and I would sleep under my mom's super heavy antique wool blankets that felt more like rugs. They were adorned with animals that had marble eyes and my dad was always worried I would scratch the paint with those marbles, lol.

Hand drilling required the drill holder to rotate the drill by hand as well as clear debris periodically. It's not like driving a big-ass nail into solid rock.

There is really not a best temp. What you need is consistent air temp. Any drastic changes will change the combustion so if you don't have oxygen trim then your combustion efficiency will suffer.

U get more out of the system heating mineral oil transferred to sand for storage and then heat the water to steam. The oil can go to many times the temperature of water. It has capability to store the heat for night use. Seems like a no brainer

We just had a Mini Mk8 installed on one of our 2 boilers. Im glad to hear that this is the latest model. These are 1960's boilers built for diesel and heavy oil, been converted to natural gas and run hvac heating water and dhw calorifiers. They have water tubes at the end of the flame tube and fire tubes on the 2nd pass. I'm thinking about fitting Turbulators to the fire tubes. I built and fitted barometric dampers for both stacks, the flaps are 12 inches in diameter. The exhaust stacks are 15 storeys high and the building is located in a very windy spot. I'm trying to figure out how to get free heating for the burner intake air.

The traditional valve setup that was shown had a regulator upstream of the valves meaning that if installed in the same situation that the gas pressure applied to the valves would be lower. A reason why the Siemens valve installation as shown can be a lot smaller than the traditional setup shown is that the gas pressure to the valves would be higher, therefore you can get the same gas flow rate through a smaller valve.

Since air is more dense in the winters, do you have the louvers slightly open, compared to the summer they would be fully open? How would you determine how much you should close the louvers for the winter and still maintain enough air for proper combustion?

I don’t believe the pressure will change with modulation, in this case I believe your pump volume will change with modulation. The pressure of the pump will overcome the pressure of the boiler as required during operation. Unless that is a modulating PRV which I don’t really see happening with the setup here.
