    Arch Fritz, the composer of the music for this cartoon, was actually a pseudonym for Carl Stalling, a guy who did a lot of music for Warner Bros. and Ub Iwerks cartoons.

    The time has come my little friends to talk of many things. Of practical effects, and animatics, of transitions and acting. And the choice of colors and of course the lighting. But let us not delay and speak today, on what the Hell Lewis Carrol was smoking.

    OK there was a lot about this that really kind of spooked and creeped me out when I was a kid especially the weird sped up running which always seemed to just give me anxiety, but there's a sense where this is every bit as amazing if not more so than the wizard of oz. Now I know that was a big MGM spectacle. That's had all of the hype and rightfully so but this is actually really quite amazing. I'd really like to see the whole film again

    The amount of things they were able to do in this movie is impressive as heck. It's literally John Tenniel's illustrations brought to life, and it's all practical effects. I also love that it explores the instant/nonsensical transitions from one place to another, very much like when someone's dreaming, which was one of the main themes of the books.

    @@RutabagaNetwork I don't know why Paramount hired Harman and Ising to animate the Walrus and the Carpenter scene when they could've hired Fleischer Studios to animate that.

  • @thehernandezmediacorporation
    @thehernandezmediacorporation6 ай бұрын

    @@gmanley1 One logical reason that Fleischer Studios wasn't selected to do the sequence was because of logistical issues due to the fact that the Paramount studio lot was in the middle of Hollywood, California (where it still stands today) and Fleischer Studios was on the complete opposite side of the country (in New York City). This meant that whatever animated sequence Fleischer Studios could've prepared may have taken days to arrive and delayed production on the feature. It made sense for Paramount to find somebody closer to home just for this special project.

    One thing that fascinates me about this is that the opening narration sounds so much like Robert Benchley. I am a great Benchley fan and so this made me chuckle! Just wondering who the narrator really is on this.
