    Feel the vibe, feel the terror, feel the pain It's driving me insane I can't fake, for God's sakes Why am I driving in the wrong lane? Trouble is my middle name But in the end I'm not too bad Can someone tell me if it's wrong to be so mad about you? Mad about you Mad Are you the fishy wine that will give me a headache in the morning Or just a dark blue landmine that will explode without a decent warning? Give me all your true hate, and I'll translate it in our bed Into never-seen passion, never-seen passion That's why I am so mad about you Mad about you Mad Trouble is your middle name But in the end you're not too bad Can someone tell me if it's wrong to be so mad about you? Mad about you Mad about you Mad about you Mad Give me all your true hate And I'll translate it in your bed Into never-seen passion That is why I am so mad about you Mad about you Mad about you Mad about you Mad about you Mad about you

    Thanks for sharing. 💚 I love the contrast between the dark, low synth and the loud, clear piano. This song is truly a hidden gem (I think an emerald 🙂). I'll join the discussion about the chorus lyrics. I think the anti-proverb "The grass is greener on your side" is used deliberately. For me, it contains the main meaning of the song about a person becoming more mature, stopping constantly looking for "greener grass on the other side" and realizing that happiness was always very close.

    With the release of "Mysterious", the band chose a great song to say: "No, we haven't forgotten about the classic Hooverphonic sound." But they forgot to add: "But we're not going to make an album in that style, and we won't even include this song on it." The band warmed up the interest in the album, but gave fake hope. "Fake ia the new hope", how ironic. But now, knowing that the album is about reflection, problems in society and recovery from depression, I don't think the band could have turned to their classic sound. I think rock or hip-hop would be more suitable for such themes, and they chose the latter as the main sound of the album. (And the choice of hip-hop means that Geike will half-sing, half-raps... and there will be no crystal notes... Noooo! 😭) I liked the album, but in terms of lyrics and music, it's like another universe. And I couldn't shake the feeling that I'd heard this somewhere before. Maybe there were too many influences this time? Every time I read Alex listing the artists who influenced this album, I thought: "That's great, but maybe you'll release an album just in the style of, I don't know... Hooverphonic!?" 😅

  • @HooverphonicAddicted
    @HooverphonicAddicted28 күн бұрын

    Alex said that the band also kinda “chose” not to release a “classic Hooverphonic album”, like Hidden Stories for example, “because, you know, we've done that before”, which is fair enough I guess. While the final product might not be my all-time favourite Hooverphonic record, I guess it wasn't a bad idea to try and mix things up a little (even if it might not be my cup of tea). It's just too bad that most of the songs sound indeed like something you've already heard before more than once and yes, the lyrics are more politically engaged, but kinda generic - again, Alex said that he likes to write universal lyrics everybody can relate to. All in all, I suppose it's okay. I'm glad they had fun with this record, but it sounds more like a transitional album to me. Still, “classic Hooverphonic songs” like Mysterious and the title track Fake Is The New Dope make everything else pale in comparison (with The United States Of Amnesia following closely). Even Por Favor was meant to be a “fun” song (in spite of the serious lyrics) and it ended up being one of the strongest tracks on the album. Like you said, Mysterious was SO beautifully “Hooverphonic coded” that the band chose not to include it, because it was so different from everything else. Still, here and there Geike showed off impressive rapping skills, I hope they don't drop that completely in the future, even if it's just for a few songs.

    Thanks for sharing. ❤ Inspired strings. A very varied drum part with great attention to detail. Beautiful synths coming in from time to time. Arrangement that has so much airiness, lightness. For me, this song is definitely a "classic Hooverphonic song"! It's a shame, that it wasn't included on the album. I know the band wanted to see how the song would perform without the support of a major label. But why did they choose this song? Maybe because this song has overlaps with two songs on the album and they wanted to avoid repetition? Both "Mysterious" and "Somebody" have a metaphor about a thrown key, and I also think "Mysterious" somehow reminds me of "A Guiding Star At Night". Or maybe the band just wanted to warm up interest in the upcoming album? And they chose a great song to say: "No, we haven't forgotten the classic Hooverphonic sound"! 🎶

  • @HooverphonicAddicted
    @HooverphonicAddictedАй бұрын

    Still gutted that Mysterious didn't make the final cut because now, THAT is the “classic Hooverphonic sound” at its best. And because in my book Mysterious is hands down the best song from the new bunch along with Fake The New Dope and Por Favor. The others are okay, but most of them just don't have that distinctive sound for me (while Mysterious was even compared to Battersea and, not surprisingly, was written during the Blue Wonder Power Milk recordings). Mysterious was also released as a soundtrack to a tv show so I suppose they considered it to be “separate” from the album? 🤔 To be honest, it's more likely they wanted to see how the song would do just being released independently on digital platforms and streaming services (apparently, it went well). Long story short, I'm REALLY hoping they were testing the waters because they're considering going independent (which is not easy, I know).

    Thanks for sharing. ❤ Good performance and song. I was amused that Alex in one of the interviews called it "classic Hooverphonic song". Since when has britpop become a classic sound of Hooverphonic, or I don't understand something? 🤔 Maybe he implies the albums "The Night Before" and "Reflection", which both have a few songs that are similar in style? Well, for me this is definitely not the classic sound of the band. And I was even more amused by the official video for this song. I'm not against AI-generated art, but how poorly made the "mask" on Geike's face is, disappoints me. The shape of her coiffure lives its own crazy life, her mouth is constantly ajar and the movements of the lips are not synchronized with singing, and at the very beginning of the video, a hand goes through her head. Oh, and Geike and the people in the images also have randomly changing numbers of fingers, ranging from four to seven. 🤣 For me, this video is another example of "the uncanny valley effect". By the way, about the official videos. Apparently we'll get a video for "Somebody" (it seems like the band releases videos about a month after the singles), and then a "violet" single and video for it. I really hope it will be "A Guiding Star At Night". 🌟 I really like all the remaining songs, but this one a little more!

  • @HooverphonicAddicted
    @HooverphonicAddictedАй бұрын

    Oh yes, I was also baffled when I heard Alex talk about “classic Hooverphonic sound” 🤣 Like what? LOL. The AI video was a bit odd as well, mostly an experiment I think. Funnily enough, the AI concept would have been more suited to the song Fake Is The New Dope. Hopefully the next video will feature the real thing, which cannot be replaced by any AI 🥲

    Thanks for sharing. ❤ What a dynamic and exciting arrangement! To me, it seems to be teasing: "Well, let's play, but remember the consequences." And the more viscous arrangements, based on a distinct bass line, threateningly warn: "Don't even think about it, or you'll face the consequences." And I'll note one detail that I really like, connected with the "rocket takeoff" (that's what I call that fragment of the vocal part that follows the last chorus - a glissando that ends with a scream). In other arrangements, nothing precedes the "rocket takeoff", but here, before the "rocket takeoff", the drums energetically enter and the voice takes up their powerful, rolling sound. Very cool!

    I would like to point out that just as I like this song, I also like Geike's dress. 😍 What chic! It isn't often that you see Geike in such attire. (If it's not a fancy play of shadows, then I think the dress even has a short train. Just, WOW!) Honestly, I would like to see Geike perform Handel's "Ombra mai fu" and the second movement of Górecki's Symphony №3 in a dress like this (well, or in that golden dress) - it would be even more solemn and recherche! Thanks for sharing, @HooverphonicAddicted. ❤ I remember that in one of the comments on your previous channel, you wrote that Geike, during a pause in her career, studied singing and even wanted to teach. I didn't attach any importance to it then. And now everything fell into place - apparently she not only improved her vocal capabilities, but also studied the technique of classical singing. I REALLY hope that Geike will perform some more classical works!🎼🎵🎶

    Me too 🥺 I was able to translate a couple of questions / answers, but the last three are kinda obscure. From what I could understand (which isn't much 😅), in the first three Geike says that if Hooverphonic won Eurovision she would throw a big party 🎉, that she wishes she was a better/bigger speaker (?), and that Alex always cooks super yummy food 😋 I'm not sure I got the other ones right. I think Geike also says that she would get really mad if somebody hit a child, and that the weirdest gift she ever received was the painting of an ear with a perfume to go with it.

I returned home after summer camp, was completely exhausted and immediately went to bed, since that day I had to get up early and jolt for a long time on the bus. I woke up at about five o'clock in the afternoon, the sun was shining on my face and I lay there, basked in its rays and thought that I was finally home, in the kitchen there were dainties prepared for my arrival waiting for me, and most importantly, there was still half of summer ahead... Yes, this song is perfect for this memory, completely consisting of a sunshine and feeling of absolute happiness! ☀❤

    Thanks for sharing. Every time I listen to another live performance of this song, I wonder - will this be a story with a happy or sad ending? For me it depends on one detail in the arrangement. In the album version, it seems to me that the horn part conveys the mood of the protagonist: she is immersed in herself, thoughtful throughout almost the entire song, except for the second chorus, where the horn begins to play two notes alternately (here the viola does it), which resembles an alarm or something like that, which seems to say that she suddenly realized that the relationship could end in nothing, she is concerned about this and will try to change something. It is this musical accent (two alternating notes in the second chorus) that gives me hope for a happy ending, if it is not, then for me the song turns into reflections before parting. So here (as on the album) there is a happy ending! 🎉

    Originally the song's story ended up in a sad way (Alex's girlfriend of 6 years broke up with him when he was 17). I feel that the outcome is still meant to be same in live versions, but some sound a little more positive than others, as if he overcame his grief (which he ultimately did) and somehow reconciled with that person as a friend (like songs like Out Of Sight seem to indicate 😮).
