  The only problem with these places is the crime associated with them. Yes the French Quarter is relatively crime free in places where there are lots of crowds, but as soon as it gets late(after midnight) these areas become largely deserted and it is best to lock yourself in your room. A tourist was recently shot and killed near these hotels in the French Quarter 1 week ago at 4 AM. I stayed in the Treme section 1 year ago. It is a scary neighborhood at night, OK during the day as long as you are with others. I love New Orleans and have family there, but the city administrations have been corrupt since the seventies. City contracts are given out to friends, relatives and supporters and not based on prior performance. New Orleans leaned heavily into the defund police movement and is still 30% short on police officers 4 years later and they are slow walking efforts to increase the number of officers. The school system is largely corrupt also, most people who live in the city use private schools for their kids, because public schools are just too dangerous. The mayor was given hundreds of millions to rebuild the city but they can't even do the simple stuff like removing clogging at street drains, causing massive flooding on streets throughout the city. Former residents mostly stay in lodging in Slidell and Jefferson parish where there is less corruption in the administration and less crime.

  Went to Rolf and daughters a few weeks ago, the restaurant is very cute but the food was very expensive (Wine markup was outrageous) and neither of us cared for our pasta. We loved Sixty Vines!

  Thank you for the great travel log, I lived in Lauderdale By the Sea for many years, it's a great place. I would recommend to anyone visiting to take the Bonnet House tour, it's like taking a step back 100 years in the past, the shell collection is amazing.

  GORKEM HOTEL. I had an incredibly bad experience at the Gorkem hotel ovacik which was booked through Travel Republic. The staff made me feel unwelcome, and the breakfast was dire-a half slice of sausage if I was lucky, not enough to feed a cat, with the dog that was begging for food at the table. The room was poorly attended; a wet bath towel was left outside to dry and was never changed. The cleaner left the door open, leaving the room unsecured. There was no fridge, and the shower water was warm if I was lucky in the morning and freezing cold at night. When I came back late after enjoying my day away, I ordered a drink from an unmotivated barman. The security guard mentioned that the barman wanted to go to bed soon. It was very dangerous walking back from the main road where the bus stops to the hotel at night. There was no street lighting, and packs of wild dogs were roaming. Solo travelers could easily be robbed by locals or attacked by dogs. Overall, the room was basically clean but lacked a fridge, had a poor shower, and had poor room security. The customer service was abysmal, and the staff were unmotivated. Additionally, calls from an adjacent mosque at 4:00 a.m. woke me in the early hours of the morning. Travel Republic was responsible for this fiasco. I would give this hotel a rating of 1/10. J'ai eu une expérience incroyablement mauvaise dans cet hôtel, réservé via Travel Republic. Il était très dangereux de marcher de la route principale où les bus s'arrêtent jusqu'à l'hôtel la nuit. Il n'y avait pas d'éclairage public, et des meutes de chiens sauvages rôdaient. Les voyageurs seuls pouvaient facilement être volés par des locaux ou attaqués par des chiens. En général, la chambre était relativement propre mais manquait de réfrigérateur, avait une mauvaise douche et une sécurité de la chambre insuffisante. Le service client était déplorable, et le personnel n'était pas motivé. De plus, les appels d'une mosquée adjacente à 4h00 du matin me réveillaient aux petites heures du matin.
