    I think that we did almost your exact AC config. I got the idea from a KZreadr that used the 3” sewer hose and bayonets flanges. We too had freeze issue. Are your hose 3”? I considered a in line booster fan just like you have. A few buds trying help me figure out the ice issue convinced me my airflow was lacking and pushed me to add a 4” supply, I assume you did not want to widen the holes in the finished camper body? I ran 4” pvc duct under the cabin a popped it up with a periscope looking pipe. It still took some tinkering as the return is still only a 3”. I tried two 3” returns to make use of the existing holes flanges and hoses but it was still freezing up. The answer for me was to leave one of the 3 inch hoses off and allow the AC to suck in the outside air. It now gets done to about 62 and is enough to make the entire camper sweat. I did not know about running the wires through the duck hoses, but I did a very similar option. I too, took the manual control knobs out of the unit itself and put them in a 4 x 4 junction box with the knobs through a blank face plate. I ran the wires inside the wall during construction And out the bottom where I connected them to a DIY Anderson power pole, quick disconnect. I think after our long July trip, I will make the painful decision to widen the original 3 inch holes to 4 inch holes and be done with it. I really appreciate your fix and the way you have demonstrated it for others to follow. I hope to see you out in the wild somewhere , so I can see the rest of your rig.

    Hey Joel, I’ve seen people try a bunch of different things to keep it from icing. I suggest you buy the relay timer and wire it up. I’ve not had one single issue since I did it. A friend also discovered that his a/c unit has an eco mode and pretty much does the same thing as the timer. As far as the Tearjerkers’s event. Just check their calendar on the tearjerkers website. Hope to see you in the wild also

    Wow those trees have gotten huge! I have a few Bartlett’s in my orchard in Mid Ga, and have been mostly pleasantly surprised. So far they have avoided fireblight and produced nice pears. The leaves do get burnt up in 90+ degree heat though.

    I agree that Leonte is one of the best pears out there. And I also had fits with fireblight on it and several others, especially Scarlet which died and golden boy which I had to greatly reduce in size. I plan to give most of my pears a heavy summer prune every year after they finish their harvest going forward to keep them small so that I can manage for fireblight better. With pears I've decided that its better to go for quality rather than quantity, especially since they are kind of hard to sell, in comparison to plums anyway.

    @@FlomatonFamous Very cool! You should give a review of Shiro on Plums and Other Stone Fruits even if its a negative one. It's good for folks to know what to expect. You might try spraying it down with a mix of Zinc and copper next year to see if that makes any difference with brown rot. It didn't seem to with the one remaining branch I have left of NC McKibben. One thing that I'm especially curious about is when did it bloom relative to your other plum varieties?

  • @coolmantoole
    @coolmantoole25 күн бұрын

    It would also be good for you to do a post about Toka for the same reason. People need to know about that thousand hour chilling requirement. But chilling should prevent it from producing if it blooms properly. You could have a sport or a mis-IDed tree. However, vegetatively it looks just like the one in the community orchard I helped stat. That one bloomed without producing plums as well. I'm pretty sure it needs a native plum for pollination. It's supposed to be a strong pollinizer and might be pollenizing Shiro if they bloom together. Shiro is supposed to be a universal pollinizer and pollinize about anything it blooms with. If it blooms with Toka and doesn't pollenize it, speaks to just how strongly theses native hybrids really need wild type for pollination. The more experience I gain with plums the more I think nursery descriptions about universal polinizers and self-fertile varieties are just full of crap. Thanks.

    I got NC McKibben from Larry when I went to interview him. How is it for disease resistance for you?

  • @coolmantoole

    @@FlomatonFamous the tree is bullet proof and every single plum brown rots regardless the weather. I haven't found anything that pollinates it well. Not even Ms Bessie seems to pollinize it. It's great rootstock and that's about it. The few plums that it does make don't even taste that good. For fruit production I rate it zero out of five. For rootstock five out of five.

  • @coolmantoole
    @coolmantoole26 күн бұрын

    Your Toka plum would probably produce if it blooms with a wild type American plum. It's a wild type with American plum in its genes, and as a group the hybrids set fruit much better with pollen from the North American parent.

  • @FlomatonFamous
    @FlomatonFamous25 күн бұрын

    Maybe true, no idea what would bloom at the same time. It was such a late bloomer. I think it's later than Chickasaw.

  • @coolmantoole
    @coolmantoole25 күн бұрын

    @@FlomatonFamous It's a hybrid with either Amerian plum (Prunus Americana) or Canada plum (Prunus nigra) hence the high chilling requirement and late bloom time. American plum and Canada plum wild type will tend to want to bloom too late for all the same reasons that Chickasaw plum wild type tends to want to bloom too early. That's what makes hybrid plums hard. Finding a North American plum to bloom with them is the hardest part of the whole thing.

    How do I contact you to set up a tour and to purchase some of your cuttings. Cuttings or rooted cuttings or potted. I know how to grow them all. I live between Bay Minette & Atmore AL so Flomaton isn't that far from me. I'm slow getting my fig orchard going but that is a dream I have and to have a big variety of different figs. All I had for YEARS was the standard brown turkey, while they are delicious, I wanted to expand my horizons to grow DIFFERENT FIGS not normally grown in this area. I generally purchase cuttings (scion cuttings from Fig Hunter) and some varieties on Fig Bid. I was not aware of the different Fig Growers in the area. Anyway, I would like to see what you have & bring my list of what I would like to get (if available) from watching your video today. I also know David the Good and have bought many plants from him.at the Atmore Flea Market when he goes there. He will know me as Bama Grits. I did lose a lot of figs last year with those freezes we had. Most came back from the roots but some never did, (which broke my heart) but that is part of life & gardening. The mature trees suffered great loss from loss of leaves & branches and had to be pruned extensively but have come back, put on new growth and have lots of figs. Maybe I can touch base with you after my June traveling when I know how MY SCHEDULE will be free for a tour/purchases. I will be out of town for most of the rest of June but maybe we can set up a meeting/tour sometime after this month. Sorry for the lengthy reply. I do have a tendency to talk TOO MUCH!! LOL!
