63 pounds. I have only trapped TWO that broke 60-lbs out of thousands. Several over 50 lbs but even those are not as common as one might think. I'd guess I get ONE 50-lb coyote out of every 100 coyotes I catch in NY.

Oh man, NO, I lost both dogs in 2016.....the old man Rusty died in his sleep Jan 2nd and I had to put his son Boone down in August....he got ate up with cancer. Sure miss those dogs, and they helped to build my catch significantly, and to a large degree, put me on the map

When Steve G's site went dead I lost touch with a lot of fellow trappers. I have a channel called Musher's Tails if you want to see some of my trapping and sledding.

early 80s i trapped a valley in central Ill. that i checked with binoculars from half a mile away. We had a inch of snow overnight and ill never forget the sight of three red foxes id caught that night. 24 years old at the time about and worked for min. wage I sold those for 75 dollars each back then. Loved that life but fur prices forced me to take a job traveling building golf courses. Got married and never went back. Good memories ive got plenty. i hang cable for yotes around here nowadays from time to time just to keep them out of my chicken coops and for controlling numbers around here a little anyways. you do things right, God bless

With the trap covered only with grass, will you still make a catch if the coyote steps on the jaw and not so much of the pan, won’t they feel the jaw ?

yes, but I DO hit my hammer at 3 and 9 O'Clock on top of the sod to counter-sink them and let the trap drop a little lower into the bed

I caught me first coyote December 31st and got two since Jan 13th and 14th first two was female one went 30.2 pounds other was small both on dirtholes but my third one was on a pipe set 34 pound male thanks buddy

Winter is tough......I think you guys can use snares there and if that's true, you DO have a great alternative approach vs. using only foot-grabbers

I’ve trapped on & off for years, mainly pocket gopher & other garments, & never yet have I caught a coyote, so here I am, attempting to learn what I can, also 54 years old. I’ve learned a lot of useful methods, just searching on KZread! Triangle of death, ziplock baggies, pipe dreams, lures........

It can get confusing as there is SO much information out there compared to when I started in the 70's........so a guy can get confused as to a lot of ways to skin the cat, so to speak. The good news is that its out there for the taking and the discerning trapper will figure out what does and doesn't work for them.

fleas and ticks are an issue and I spray them all down in my shop when I unload them with Sawyers and haven't had any issues in years.

Great stuff. I used the pipe dream set exclusively last year and used a quarter of the bait I would usually use. In CT we have similar climate and this definitely turned into my go to. What kind of .22 was that?

Great video i have been trapping in a 5 mile circle off a side by side i run double and triple traps at each set i mostly use gland lure and urine most of the year i have found that saving my own glands and aging them with good urine . I use very little food bait one of my best things ive found to use is blood i collect while my family butcher shop i get several buckets of fresh blood each day that i freeze and make a liquid bait from believe me i dont go chase them they come to the farms im trapping ive went from 25 a year to 80 to 90 coyotes off these 5 farms that are huge beef cattle farms i cant understand how they keep coming in such numbers

Can you recommend some NY legal leg holds. I know the bridger #2 is legal with 5 3/4 Jaw spread. Any suggestions much appreciated

You can used a #3 Bridger as well as long as you INSIDE laminate the jaws to decrease the inside jaw spread. NO BS Traps are also very popular. What ever you choose I'd go dog less, center-swiveled, laminated, offset jaws. Stalker Fabrications has a website and the can do modifications for you, including laminations and baseplates for center swiveling

I assume you mean in a dirt field like a corn field? Because my sets are largely in HAY fields. So, I ONLY use grass if its a hay field. In the woods I use leaves instead of grass, and in corn fields I'd probably NOT make a pipe set, but rather a dirt hole with peat moss OR if dry enough and warm enough, just the dirt excavated at the set

I’ve always had respect for Mark Zagger based on your reputation from other people’s comments; however, seeing the passion and authenticity in your video only increases my respect towards you. I’d be your best trapping companion! I hammer foxes, coon, and possums, but the coyote eludes me. I even catch more bobcats than coyotes. Great video and evolution of the timeless flat set!
