Education is also a shadow for most people, it prepares them for the job , the work for the fat man, the shadows are also the poorest forms of information, two dimensions, no colour or depth. We need to hold everything up to the light.

Good explanation but a bit simplistic. Most, highly educated people have only moved from the bottom of the cave, up to the fire. They believe they understand the system, and pass on their 'knowledge' to others. But they've never found the path, out of the cave. They may disagree with other 'experts', and believe therefore, that they've seen the whole system, better than others. So, education is not truth. It's part of the path to truth, but it's not necessarily the way out of the cave. Understanding that everything is an illusion, that we are entering the cave, to take part in the game - like a virtual reality game. When we die, we are persuaded to keep returning, to educate ourselves more. But real enlightenment is getting out of the cave -the physical world - and choosing/demanding to leave, totally! Back to reality, in fact. Nothing like this, whole physical experience. But by then, we are richer for the experiences we've had. We fully grasp the idea of goodness, purity, simplicity, bliss, calmness, and we've stopped craving the drama of being alive, in a body.

Socrates was educated by women and described his approach to philosophy as being a midwife. My perspective of the Cave is that it is more analogous to the birthing process; a baby leaves the dark world it has always known to go into the light and see/hear strange noises. Were it a twin and to return what would the twin think of being born? I believe Socrates/Plato thought of this as reaching a new life, another plane of existence (ie the "real" world akin to the veil of Maya in some Buddhist/Hindi text) This is why (in part) Nietzsche believed Platonism was Christianity for the elite and Christianity was Platonism for the masses; they both deny this one real world for the idea that there is a metaphysical "higher" plane, real world which can be achieved if only we're "good" enough (Plato's "good" was based on inverting and subverting the conventional Athenian/Greco norms and ethics of the day as Homer or Thucydides in the Melian Dialogue described them through placing "real" value in the metaphysical realm and not this world; Christianity did the same to Roman values)

We're prisoners of time. Our cave-dwelling existence is our sequential, time-bound experience of the universe. In reality, time is an illusion of biological beings. Everything is happening NOW, at the same time, but we cannot see it.

I like this for the food for the thought and learning about the Cave Allegory, but this guy get's auditorily pissed early on when the student brings up teachers can brainwash. Towards the end he's very pro teacher/educator like that will someone how solve our problems. It's ridiculous and I wish the educators would look at their own limitations. Socrates taught, "knowing that one does not know". Teachers should realize they cannot replace the family unit or assuage the horrors of the system(see Mark Fisher). Teachers are vaulable like screw drivers, but we need more tools, and the screw drivers are not the master tool or best tool, but a certain tool for certain jobs.

My ethics teacher in Germany gave this teaching in 1990 to me. Several of us who were Moslem or atheists who didn't want to take religion took his class. I have several degrees and they are all absolutely worthless. I hate school. I hate teachers. I hate blackboards even this fancy one. To use his alegory blackboards are like back of the cave. Who invented the first airplane? Not anyone from Academia but 2 brothers owning a bike shop. I worked at SpaceX from 2016-2020, and we just started landing rockets. There are physicists on record who told Elon it can't be done. What I'm getting at is that: Structured, institutionalized learning are really prisons of minds. Academia is always one step behind reality and ideas and innovations...they just come with 5000 page books after a regular guy invented something: Fundamentals of flight. To me they can all go to hell. I learned French for 5 years as an Iranian because it was a requirement and I passed but today I don't remember a word of that damn language. Like Elon says: present a problem and let people solve it. Instead of giving a solution or a tool to a problem they don't know yet. It's why probably calculus was so easy to invent and understand for Newton but huge pain for kids to swallow. I say F calculus, it was only 1 way of getting to answers. F X-AXIS and y axis and all that BS...it only limits your mind. In my line of work-aerospace- I actually had to unlearn a lot of that crap so my mind and consciousness had room to be creative. Schools suck and I will never expose my kids to it.

You cannot get a more accurate idea who and what the image maker is and who are the chained being shown these images than look at the corporate run and funded universities. This is a master stroke of deception. I take my hat off to your capacity to twist reality and produce these seductive images on these young chained confused minds.

Why would any author say not to look at his book this way or that way whatever life lessons somebody needs they will take from Reading books, compassion for example. If somebody sees it symbolically as satan, they are learning something from it and I don't know why any author would say don't learn lessons from my book and take it as an allegory obviously that it's not literal so it doesn't even make sense

Merrily merilly merilly merilly life is but a dream. All the worlds a stage and we are merely actors playing our part. There is no spoon. Follow the yellow brick road.

One of the most brutal paradigm shifts I ever had was seeing an animated video of the Hubble ultra-deep field experiment (Oooohhhhmmmmmm. . .). I mean, I knew I was small, but seeing all of those distant , each like our own, each full of stars, really affected me. On a universal scale I really am completely insignificant. Even if I somehow managed to destroy the entire galaxy, I'd still be insignificant. So what do I do, then? Who should I be? How should I react to others in the world, the people chained in the cave who are focused on, say, our wealth or our popularity or any of the other things humans use to sort themselves? It kind of killed some of my motivation, but I certainly did gain a measure of peace.

The voicebox and the mouth is the casting shadowing sign. The vibrate or the voicebox that pump air is the fire. The phantom of the shadow is the sound that cast into the ear. The shadow and the wall is the sound in the ear. The prisoners are the brain. The sensors of your eyeball, skins, ear, nose, tongue -- is your terminal of the external cave. The source of truth, first principal, actualization, is the photon, the temperature, objects, sounds, odors, chemical, food, and all kind of sources that flood on the surface of your sensors. Your action, involvement, is the learning process of your interplay with reality. The outcome of your becoming is the authenticity of being real to what's surrounds you.

I think the "midwives" or the "teachers" has to be the authentic and most experienced user who already been outside of the cave for a long time and is returned to get you out. Apprenticeship, Scientific method, awareness need to be made when arriving outside of it (safety consideration), and many other things that we shouldn't relies the "teacher" of life-long sitting in the cave or those with power that contain you. If anything, you're not supposed to be in the cave and you should be already outside and manages to survive to serve to your own needs and certainly to keep on learning about the reality.

The "physical vs idea" should be the other way around...? Since too many arbitrary thoughts are equalivant to share of idea and since it's too abstracts - that's in the cave. Whereas a turn of attention to phsycial, actual outcome is a way to the outside of the cave and there's all the more to the phsycial reality that the brain need to adjust and learn all the more the physical reality has to offer.

I just realized the allegory of the cave is a lot like Kants project. kant is trying to map out the reality of the allegory. So transcendental realism is mapping the allegory to reality using the meeting point of where effect turns into affect and back out to effect again. So i guess making a story line that is probably best or simply represented as a fibbinaci spiral winding into a centre (social effect being affected) where it winds back out again (self effect). Kant seems to pull that spiral out and make a story line. Obviously heavily emphasis on appearence. But still the story line has the room to add other sensory inputs... The line itself is a realist version of the allegory of the cave! Im trying to map the transcendental- but that i think moves. Mainstream is in the cave! Outside the cave is vertical development (heros journey, etc). If we come back and try to sell our ideas people get pissed off - perhaps with good reason! If we go back with an artistic morailty : we express! People may be intrigued! Reality will offer many different versions of leaving the cave! Some will be visual like Kant, others might he amazing smells! I guess my point is... Keep it artistic if people like you they'll inquire. Reality isnt so much about the Truth as it is just being in the world!

I do not think they really know that they are in the cave. Yes, students, teacher, school system and so on. Mostly people see just "some" allegory of a wise dead man and mentally learn about it, but do not realise that it is reality of their life. If yes, than they can leave this illusory prison. I wish it to everyone :)
