I cut NodeRed out of my setup cause it broke for me once out of nowhere and I had to spend an entire weekend troubleshooting it to get my automations working again (I believe it was a Home Assistant integration that was overwhelming NodeRed with logs and breaking it). Definitely get the use case of it though. I just like using native Home Assistant features when I can (in this case, their automations). Especially with how quickly they improve and update stuff like the recent changes they added to the automation builder. Love your videos though! Even your NodeRed stuff gives me ideas for my own setup. Keep up the solid work.

This is very awesome and has a lot of potential, but does it really have any advantages over just hardcoding an automation in such a simple scenario? I feel like it only increases the risk of hallucinations and cost.

I’m curious and maybe I missed the video you had talked a bit more in depth with your openAI integration how much does it cost your home a month? I’m trying to learn but wanted to attack it from a in home LLM (mostly been messing with machine vision/home security lately) and while 30-40 watts in heavy motion times is a lot in the grand scheme of things I feel like my power bill would be lower then cloud? I know MV and LLM are different but just trying to see if I should keep walking the on prem path or if I should change?

You can add AI to your automations without needing to learn complicated code. You can even use local LLMs like Ollama! In my course, I’ll show you the techniques I’ve picked up so you can easily create unique automations. Check it out here if you're interested: www.technithusiast.com/automation-course

Really love where you are going with this. HA reaaaaaallly needs to figure out granular user permissions. My dashboards should have a limited guest access, etc. I know some of it is on the roadmap or has been in HA.

Stumbled across this and accidentally got it to work with gmail, outlook was not able, and node-red-node-email added to my pallet no smtp install needed. I had a particular use case due to CarPlay not announcing messages from my HA app on my iPhone, which left me without a way to get my attention while driving. Thanks for this, here’s hoping it is reliable…

Yes, so the Aquara automations does rely om the cloud but if you only use it as a way into, say Home Assistant, will HA still be able to control the devices if internet connection is out? In that case, it is still usable as a coordinator into HA, GH, Alexa or Home kit, as long as you leave the automation control to them.

Curious about the requirement that it's not active when guests are over; If it's worth doing, you'd think you'd want to benefit from it yourself as well, right? It's always interesting seeing what people do for automation in the bathroom. It seems like a dangerous/slippery slope; I don't want my guests to feel how I think most people would: when tech makes itself known in the bathroom, the understandable question immediately comes up "am I being watched/listened to?" Finding a motion sensor to automate lights and fans that very much doesn't look like a camera to the point where it screams "hey I'm not a camera!" was a challenge haha! Regarding Spotify, "start a jam" doesn't require anyone to be on your account at all. Just print out a QR code with the jam invite, and it can be used by up to 32 people. I think this cares for 90% of the problem, leaving everyone able to use their own device comfortably. I think starting there, and then enhancing the jam's queue with a tablet view to allow you to add songs for the few people who don't have Spotify installed to participate would be a good way to go.

Great questions and points. This was an experimental automation and admittedly, a flex, since many of them were expecting something “geeky” since they know I do this. I wanted an experience that could work along side my day-to-day setup. Though there is a motion sensor in the bathroom people are typically fine with that’s common place in public restrooms. To help reduce concerns I place the sensors in corners as it give a wide view while being unobtrusive. Prior to this video I never heard of Spotify jam and I think that would be simplest solution that would cover the majority of cases but it would make for a pretty fast and boring video.😛 Something I liked about the process is that it helped me to discover new tool which unlocks new ways of doing things which is always exciting to me :) Great points you brought up 👌🏾

@@technithusiastthat is a great reply thank you! Looking forward to seeing what else you come up with. I’m wondering if you’ve tried the Atom Echo as a mic; the stock implementation has some major issues, but I commented out the speaker stuff and have it replying via my network speakers. This way I can either use browser_mod or whatever network endpoint to stream replies. Working pretty decently so far. Next step is to get follow-up questions from the LLM working more conversationally so I don’t have to use the wake-word to reply. Something else Im pretty excited about is a sorta “tools centralizer” proxy Ive been working on so that HA and also my Obsidian instance and whatever other tools I have reaching out to an LLM all share a set of functions. So for example if I ask HA to summarize the latest xyz channel video or ask Obsidian, they can both access that skill. Sorry for the wall of text, but one other thing Im curious about is how Ke might have, or might be changing with the development of local llms, function calling standards improving, and things like chromadb becoming easier to stand up. Are you using a local vector database or anything? So many questions 😆 Thanks for sharing. Best of luck, and be good to yourself!

What's your warning mode entail? So far with my house modes (I used to have all these in boolean toggles, not sure what i was thinking there) I have Active, Cinema, Do Not Disturb which holds all TTS announcements, Event (This is for lighting when i dont want it to change) Nightowl which delays all home shutdown procedures, Protected which is like away mode. Sleep which is similar to do not disturb but also turns all the screens off and streaming which engages a streaming light background and disables office automated lighting. Maybe too many but so far so good

I created the warning state after this incident: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lZyhr6aNftnZdco.html It places the house in an “panic” state but less intense. If threat is detected while we’re home it lets us know, changes light colors and record from all cameras.
