  When dad coached ,at FHS he worked with a man, John Patrick, then Dr. Patrick went on to become Superintendent at Ft.Madison, He and dad ended up at Western Il U. Dr. Patrick teaching Ed at WIUand dad ran the student union.

  Seems like a great idea until we consider the costs and that not many folks can afford to build one. With today's prices for materials and labor, they're not cheap. And the cost of building will need to be recouped, directly affecting rent. For this reason, I'm not at all sure this will solve our housing crisis. Might make a tiny dent in it, but solve it? Not unless there are substantial subsidies -- and it's possible there's federal $ for this. Which brings up the topic of how badly the City of Fairfield needs to hire a professional grant writer to bring in federal, state, and foundation money that's available for all kinds of things, but that we never see here because there's no one to do the research and write the proposals.

  When a man is amazing and endearing -- we like to lengthen his name, to show our appreciation. (Like Bob Roth...anyone who knows him or his accomplishments...can't help but call him Bobby.) So I'm surprised when I hear "Tom" Brooks. Tommy's incredible round-the-clock service, perspective, wisdom...and kindness...is astonishing. He never ceases to amaze me, and so many others.

  Gotta tell ya, Tom Brooks is one of the finest human beings this guy has met. I'm smiling at Tom's descriptions of being on the farm because in my own family, I have the fondest memories of visiting Grandpa and Grandma on their small 90 acre farm in west-central Wisconsin. On that farm, five children were raised, and as each of them graduated from 8th grade - a one room school house way down the winding roads - Grandma and Grandpa lost their blessed offspring to town life in Richland Center, Wisconsin . . . living with town families while each of the kids attended high school. Through the years that old farmstead became kind of a lonely place as the kids found life elsewhere. Tom Brooks has been a real trooper for MIU. Tom has worked as a project manager on SO many vital projects. In fact, when I first came to MIU in the early 80's Tom lived in the same 'Pod' as I did . . . but, I rarely saw him . . . Where's Tom? At that time, Tom was the project manager to bring up to par a first class living space for Maharishi if/whenever Maharishi chose to visit MIU. Tom worked long hours, supervising that precious space. There's no question, Tom Brooks HAS, indeed, attached himself to whatever needs to be done.
