Just stumbled across your review. I'm a new, and older, rider, and I have the S version (the naked version) as my first big bike. Everything you say is correct. The 'frunk' is so convenient, as I don't like the look of the S with a top box. It has red wheels and it puts a grin on my face every time I ride it. Who needs 200bhp?!

Best bike for beginners. Even some experienced riders will like it. Cheap, easy to ride, simple, comfortable, enough performance for pretty much any riding condition. Got mine to have a bit taste of trail/fire track riding. I had zero experience riding off-road before. Jumped on the bike and straight on to some local gravel back roads without any problem. Several kilometres later, after I had a feel of the power delivery, brakes and handling through corners, I can comfortably stand up, move body around and just continue at normal pace. Bike is very forgiving, no nasty surprises in power, brakes or balance. Yes, that muffler is very annoying when standing up. Very good bike to learn riding and maintenance skills, since everything is easy to access.

Hi, yes I get your confusion here. My understanding is CF Moto are their own company that used Kawasaki designed engines in some of their bikes pre-2017, they then formed a partnership with KTM and swap a lot of engineering between both companies. But I think they are still their own company with their own engineers but share their expertise, someone deeper within the CFMoto/KTM dealerships may be able to shed more light on this. Cheers.

I am going to guess the bike adjusts the mileage prediction based on the type of driving that has been done so far. So if it assumes you are going use 50km range through mixed driving and notices you are staying in the city with no appreciable wind resistance, it can start assuming this is the driving you will be doing for the rest of the day and bump up your range. Google maps kind of does this as soon as you start speeding on the interstate.
Yes something like that I would think, of course you can’t actually make more than you use but we were having a bit of fun👍
I own a first edition love it, quality bespoke motorcycle, I also owned a honda rune I'm now in my seventies and owned many bikes I know my bikes this BMW is one of the best I've owned and ridden .

Wow! Another worthy contender in the same price range for the G 310 GS, with a lot more power and features to offer. I've already got a beast with S1000RR for my love of the trackdays, but started looking forward to the dual sport that can do off-road well. Seems like the Suzuki V-STROM 250SX might be the one I settle into, gives me a little more left over in the back for the CFMoto 450 CLC. I love it that those bikes are all so well integrated with phones. Btw, I'm just across the ditch in Auckland.
Hi, you’ve got a nice track bike there with the RR for sure. If you’re looking for a good dual sport I think the CFM450 would be hard to go past, haven’t had a chance to review it yet but it certainly looks great & those I’ve spoken to with them love it. Great to hear from NZ, your boy SVG is making his presence known in the US atm👍
Are you able to compare this to a BMW G 310 GS? Also, I've heard the 250SX has phone connectivity to assist with GPS navigation. This is one of the biggest reasons for me to look at this compared to the G 310 GS which has a little more power around the 100kmph to help with overtaking etc. but like you mentioned, still needs the drop down to 5th to get that push.
Hello, the SX here in Australia doesn’t have phone connection or the TFT screen. Hopefully the update model will.
@@standupmoto - thanks, seems like the Indian models all have the bluetooth based connection 2 years ago. Perhaps the 2024 revision will have this? Will shoot out to their dealer ship to confirm.
You’re right, the Australia/ NZ models doesn’t seem to have it yet. They are getting the black with red option next week, hoping that would support navigation. It’s sad that in India this little bike sells cheaper than here and with better features like navigation to make it a winning choice! Seems like here we’re still a few years behind the rest of Asia!
Yes it sometimes seems we are (AU-NZ) behind many places when it comes to new models in both cars & bikes, which can be awkward when trying to review things as it’s old news in a lot of countries That’s why I try to have a different take on reviews, sometimes it works- sometimes it doesn’t but I just love doing it.👍
Hi Steve, I've contacted you a few months ago about the V-Strom 250 SX and am still on the fence about it. I recently had another look at it at a dealer and it struck me that the rear suspension feels rather stiff. What's your experience in this regard? The backroads I'm usually riding here are quite rough and bumpy and on my current bike I get some rather nasty jolts into my back occasionally. I weigh about 70 kg. Thanks, mate!
Gday Thomas, I’ve been very happy with the rear suspension. Yes it’s firm but I don’t find it an issue, I do run the rear tyre a few lbs lower than recommended. The front is quite soft so no jumping, not that it’s meant for that anyhow.

I have one of these in the UK, only thing I would complain about is fuel consumption avg 40mpg here, ok I don't ride it too gentle but not mad, I had a Suzuki sv1000s before this and that got better mpg, done 1250 miles so far and no problems, seems a little under powered until its had first service (bit weird) but now its a rocket for a 650, really cant complain about it at all, put some heated grips and hand guards on for the British weather. No other bike comes with a 4 year warranty in the UK that I'm aware of so this swung it for me, no brainer for the price, costs 4500 pounds which is silly low.

I just picked up a '96 Royal Star just a couple weeks ago! Didn't quite run, so I've got the carbs off to clean so I hope that'll get her up and going. I'll have to look for that airbox mod as well. Where is a good resource for info like that?
Same year! Yes definitely the carbs, it’ll cough & splutter terribly once old unleaded fuel turns to goo in those carbs. A complete disassembly, throw everything in an ultrasonic cleaner at high temp for a couple of hours. That should fix it, the air box mod is basically just letting more air in. 👍

Here in UK I currently I have a CB125R bike. Going for my Mod 2 test for full license in two weeks. I was looking at this bike and its smaller cusin the NC500. Is it true that this 750 is more economical in fuel consumption that the smaller engine bike NC500? 🤔
Hi, I can’t actually answer that question but hopefully someone will have experience with both models.
I've got a 2017 model, which is a little more simple. No LCD dash etc. I bought it for 2.5K and it only had 10,000kms. Essentially its a Kawasaki ER6N/Versys copy for the engine with a 6 speed gearbox and it does the job. Parts are easy enough to get in Australia, but only from CFMoto or AliExpress. Quality varies in terms of parts, some of the plastic is quite weathered and it's clear its not the same quality as a Japanese bike of the same era (or indeed 80s, 90s or 2010). There are basically no aftermarket parts in the local area or in the US. Some things like a centre stand can be had from Greece etc. Ultimately, its a pretty reasonable bike which I do not care if it slides down the road and its reasonably happy to take the abuse. I've had it for about 12 months and its likely I'll move it on soon. If you're looking for something to review, I'd like to see some more information on the Kawasaki Vulcan 2000 (VN2000).

I have ridden the big Vulcan some time ago, she’s a big machine & I would imagine getting a bit collectible now.

Great review Mate! Mine is a 2012; it is my second Wing (previously a 1500 when the kids were little! Now they're adults we could get another one!). Absolutely love the bike and echo your comments; one thing I would HIGHLY recommend to any 1800 owners is to get a set of Helibars for your Wing. The difference from the standard bars is like night and day. If you thought the bike was comfortable before the Helibars, you will be blown away afterwards (especially if you have a backrest)

I have the U.S version of this. Here it is called the 650 Adventura. In the U.S we do not get the crash bars but we do get Shad panniers as standard. So far I am very impressed with mine. I was fortunate enough to purchase mine for $4500 all included. It was a used bike with 3 miles on it.

@standupmoto - Here in the UK, I currently have the 2023 model CB 125 R. I can not wait to get a bigger bike as soon as I pass my Mod 2 test in two weeks to get my full motorcycle licence. Too much vibration on the handle bars and footpegs on this 125, as soon as I reach motorway speeds above 40 mph. 🤮 From the information that I have gathered, it seems this 750 bike uses less fuel than the smaller engine honda bike NC500. Is that correct? 🤔
How much did it cost you ?

@@andrewroberthook3310 Andrew I think I got it pretty right but they are an old bike now & being a single seater don’t fit everyone’s needs. 100k is no drama for one of these, you do need to pop it on the center stand & check there’s not too much backlash in the diff. In general though they are great value and a great ride, I’ve moved mine on now to a mate but really enjoy the time I had with it. I certainly wouldn’t say no to another if one came up at the right price.
Premium fuel? Mine seems to run exactly the same on 91
Yes I’ve had another owner tell me the same, I just based my comment re premium on the high compression ratio & the sticker on the top of the fuel tank recommending 95 min ron unleaded.
No fuel gauge though. That’s a big bummer
Yeah, that surprised me also. I guess back to old school & set the trip meter or wait until the low fuel light comes on.👍

To explain your range gain with the regen experiment, I've noticed my range will adjust itself to my driving style on the day. If I start the day with highway speed, it will drop quite quickly. Then going to 60mh/hr streets, the range can increase.

Excellent Video.... I toured with the same model bike 2015 Metalic Silver CTX700N early Fall 2023. A 3000+ mile tour in the USA lasting 15 days. The tour began Day One heading South in the rain on the Interstate cruising 70 - 80 mph for 140 miles. Then the weather cleared as I entered onto a 2-lane Hwy 55-60 MPH through most of Ohio, then camped. Day 2 onto Ohio (555) then West Virginia Hwy 50 and camped in the Dolly Sods Wilderness area. Day 3 WV Hwy {48}, to Virginia Shenandoah National Park (Skyline) and midway camped. The next day I connected to the Blue Ridge Parkway (Virginia/North Carolina) camping a few times in the Appalachian Mountain Range before reaching the Smoky Mountains in Cherokee North Carolina. While in the Smoky Mountains, I made base camp in Robbinsville North Carolina at a Motorcycle campground. During the next few days, I left all the gear at camp and rode the bike on the paved mountain twisty roads one being the "Tail of the Dragon". The bike was a blast to ride. I averaged about 60 MPG even on the Interstate, except going through the mountains where I averaged 50-55 MPG. The bike was smooth riding well beyond my expectations. The bike held up well in the wind (installed a windshield) and rain as I passed 18-wheeler Semi Trucks on the Interstate going 75+ MPH, so it seemed. Who says the CTX700N is not a tourer bike? lol.

Ive had harleys .got fed up making my mechanic rich. Swapped to a royal star 10 years ago . All ive done is service and a clutch change . Fantastic bikes ill never get of it .

@@standupmoto ooo i do shes showing her age now but shes 24 years old . But the engine is sweet . She probably outlast me . They really are superb bikes . Bit of a handful in town heavy and not exactly the best for tight turns. But once you know its limits its fine. Not a bike for traffic or small roads though. But if you want that you dont ride a 320kg bike do you

I'm thinking about buying this bike for me to travel from Dorset to north of Birmingham. Since it is so reliable, I was just wondering since that ride with be motorway and A and B roads, this this bike the right bike, like to know your peoples opinions ?
Hi , based on my experience reviewing this bike I probably wouldn’t recommend it as a regular motorway machine. It’ll do the occasional motorway stint for sure but it’s more comfortable around the 50 to 60 mph for extended periods than it is at 70 mph. If you like the Royal Enfields the Interceptor 650 would be better suited to your application in my opinion. Hopefully some Himalayan owners will let you know their thoughts here in the comments.

Fantastic review I have had a lot of trouble getting some feedback about this bike. I really appreciate your review. I also have some difficulty at the dealership here trying to upsell me to a bigger bike. I already have a Harley Iron 883 2017 model, I am wanting to get a good little cost effective mini adventure bike to possibly start up a men’s group that includes riding and bushwalking, this bike really fits.
Great, glad you enjoyed it. The baby Strom is a great easy to own economical bike. It comes with no surprises, what do I mean by that? There’s no quirks, no power bands etc. It’s just a fun little to own, oh it’s also quite with the standard exhaust so you won’t annoy anyone with the noise.

You completely nailed this bike when you mentioned 'normal daily use'. All the weekend coffee shop riders stay away. You're just not used to spending more than a couple of hours a month on your beautiful expensive European made bikes. For riders who ride all day, every day, every season, this bike is an absolute must to try and test. I used to daily an Africa Twin Adventure Sports! Great bike but way to top heavy, both on and off-road.

I like yours ....I own a 1997 Yamaha Royal Star it's a deep black cherry with a red pinstripe a little more chrome and slightly bigger leather saddle bags with a sissy bar back rest...if I could've would have loaded a picture have had it for 10 years .....they are enjoyable to ride...and I live in the US...Toledo Ohio 👍

Rt1200 2006 45000 km. Brussels to Athens through the Alps and the Balkans. 4.5 to 5.0 l/100 max. OLast day (sunday) 960 km in one go. The seat is too soft for that though. That monday she dropped me at work through terrible commuting traffic as if nothing had happened 😅

I thought it has cruise control and the tank is in reality under the seat.
Not on this model, tank is in the - if we call it standard position but I have fitted an aftermarket market throttle lock.
