I don’t understand, are you an art major student (like you mentioned on your other video) or are you a Milan’s Mastery program student??? And another thing I just don’t get, why would you purchase Milan’s kit if you knew the company that sells their paints and brushes cheaper ?? And maybe the reason you’re not learning as much at the Mastery program is because you’re not practicing enough. Your brushes and painting show like they’ve been used very very little for being so far ahead in the program. I’m an actual student of their program, started with zero experience and knowledge and from just a few weeks I have learned so much and gained so many skills, even more than what I expected.

I was completely devastated because I was really at the point where this is something that I needed in my life right now to get me out of a slump. I am a good artist but have found that my motivation has completely gone. I struggle everyday wanting to paint, to draw, to create. So I figured if I enrolled in this program that it would help bring my "artist" back out. But I didn't sign up because right when I went to fill in the pay.... It said 3600.00 and I can't do that. The idea that you can master art in 12 weeks is a straight up con! This Milan family and their art style totally gives me the creeps. I have been painting for 40 years. The best advice I can give is to take continuing studies drawing class from a local college. Then seek out a local artist painter with their own studio that offers classes in the type of art your'e interested. For art supplies, Blick is still the best deal going. Except you need to watch for sales and make certain your'e purchasing above student grade paint. You can use the cheaper paint labeled as "Hue" for large 1st layer washes and more muddy mixes. But for the most part, to learn about color and mixes, stay above series 3 pigment.. One important note: Art is a lot about learning to see color, shape, light and shadow correctly. No matter if you end up plien-air, portrait, still life or any sort of abstract, being out in nature and practicing seeing, big blocks of shapes, massive color values, perspectives.... Nature has it all. If you start as a landscape painter and learn how to see, you will likely do well at any future style. There is no quick easy way to learn art. Painting a lot, watching videos, visiting museums and galleries and studying closely the masters is the way, if you can't find or afford a local private master.

Art costs money. Whether you buy their products or not. And I see a lot of the artists coming out painting like the Milans do, but you don't have to. I think your critical viewpoint isn't considering the cost for one year of learning at a traditional art school compared to one year of this compressed learning. I think a better look at the value of the program is that you're getting a lot of good information for a cost that is less than a university would graciously over charge you for a year or 4. Even if you're a beginner and have no idea about painting... you get a lot of good info, and you can watch the videos over and over. Whereas a traditional college is learning in class and hope you have a good memory to retain all the words that disipate instantly. And btw, bring your $30,000 - 40,000 each year. You said you were an art major... if you already have an art degree, why are you taking another program? Why didn't you get your money's worth from your full degree? If you didn't want to learn other mediums, why did you sign up in the first place when they tell you the entire Part 2 is mixed media? How are you supposed to learn a new media without buying the supplies? I plan to continue my art, so I'm going to use all my supplies. And you're able to practice what you are taught, using those supplies, and getting more "time" spent on those specific areas. Just my observations to anyone listening to your video about your comments. Im not saying they teach everything you would get from a 4 year college, but I think the program is worth the cost, especially in comparison to a $120,000 4 years degree.

I think anyone going through art school would be expected to purchase all kinds of supplies that they may never use again. What I have subsequently learned through other programs (I'm about half way through Mastery after 1½ years) is that you can mix almost every colour from just a few colours. I would probably begin with primary colours in warms and cools, plus black and white. And you can probably get just the supplies you need for each section at a time - so just oil and drawing supplies for the beginning section at first. It would be nice if the program were updated to include some of these things. I do agree that it's a stretch to become a professional artist within a year, starting from scratch, but based on my experience in the first half of the program, I do think it can be done. I would guess that a more realistic expectation for many is 18 months or even 2 years, though I'd encourage everyone to push yourself and aim for 1 year.

I am in the beginning lessons of the mastery program and am finding it difficult to keep up with their pace. You can't learn perspective drawing in one week's lessons. I am finding that I have to do supplemental research on ways to do the things they teach so quickly, such as gesture drawing and perspective. I have been spending at least 20 hours a week on assignments. You definitely cannot learn how to paint portraits with so little instruction. I wish I had taken a course that focused on some of the basics before I tried this course. It is definitely not for beginners. Also, so many of the artist's paintings look like cookie cutters of their own style.

On the payment plan, $200/mo, you get the full month of videos (4 videos) after payment date. It's actually very convenient for me. I recommend buying the brushes from Milan because after pricing out brushes. They have the better value. Definitely get your own paints, Gamblin 1980 series at Michaels are great! I just labeled them myself. I do agree that this is not a good beginner program, unless you're willing to pay for mentorship, which is highly advertised 😅. At the end of the day, it's a business🤷
@tokki88255 ай бұрын
For the program it's absolutely not necessary to by the art supply kits. I use the supplies I already have and ad the ones that are missing for the lessons along the way. As of style: It really is what you put in yourself - your amount of work, your personality, your voice. If you are serious about this, you develop your own path. The program is all about learning the skills and try out as much as possible to develop the freedom to create whatever and however you want your art to be. At absolutely no time in the program I feel I would consciously or subconciously copy a style of other people or that a style is taught. What is taught is skills and the ability to loosen up and to be open to experiment. You get out of the program what you put in yourself - and that is hard work and dedication and to be open minded. And yes, art supplies are expensive, but you can't try out new things if you don't get the materials. As I said, the kit is not needed - actually I think it's more for people who don't want to put in the time to look for supplies themselves. Also: You have lifetime access to the program - there's no need to finish it in one year. You can, if you have a lot of time and no other obligations, but it's not necessary. It's also a matter of dedication with the lessons. You are not supposed to do just the assignment and use stuff once. You have to practice and use these materials over and over again, to get skilled at it and also to develop a taste for them. It's a total missconception to get good at something while only doing one assignment. Elli always emphasises that you need to paint a lot as in a lot to get skilled and professional and that I find very true from my own experience. I really love the program because it teaches me a lot I would never have sorted out or tried out by myself and it helps to learn a lot of different things to find out, what I like most.

I went to art school myself. Got the bfa. But honestly, even that school in my class, I would say 10-20% actually went on to be working artists, in one case an animation director, designers, etc. The rest didn't. All I'd say is if you do go through one of these programs, shop around for supplies. My defaults are either Blick or in a pinch, Michael's.

It seems like your expectations were not met. There’s definitely some good marketing being used to hype the course. Art takes a long time to master. I would expect this course to get someone started in the journey of becoming a pro artist. I personally would expect not to automatically or dramatically become a successful pro artist through a year long course. I am debating on taking this course, but would use my own materials and not buy the kits. I already went to a formal art school many years ago, but let that world go, but now coming back after 5 years of slowly making art on the side. I already have a style or voice I’ve developed so I’d probably just do my thing and counter the challenges. What I like about the promise of the course is setting up an artist making practice and learning marketing and selling of work.

I really appreciate your review as I feel the same about the style of art produced by most of the graduates of this program. You might end up painting in the Milan Style as you finish the course. There's art channels here on youtube that have great tutorials for free and you're not under the same pressure of creating dozens of paintings per day/week or buying excessive amounts of materials needed for the projects. This is an expensive adventure but I hope that you'll get something from this and continue to grow as an artist.

The observations you made seem to indicate that the time you spent doing was not enough. If you are in art school full time you have a few hours in classes and the rest of your days (and sometimes nights) to practice what you learn. If you spend 6 hours a day 6 days a week, you get 36 a week that gives you plenty of learning time on a subject. You don't have to have skill in any area to start. But YOU have to practice A LOT. As far as supplies- why did you choose to buy the kits, knowing that you can buy them much cheaper from others? Yes they have a "style" but all of it is about examples to learn from. You can use any style you want with the skills you learn to paint your own voice once you find it. Did you find yours? No, you quit before you did. Too bad.

I just want to make a brief commentary here. If you look at Juliette Aristides’ Foundational Drawing and Painting hosted by the site called Terracotta… you will see the price. I took it in 2021. They don’t teach everything, just the foundation of drawing and painting. They offer a Part 2 of the Foundational program focusing on figure drawing and painting but I am too bankrupt to continue. After I had taken the foundational course, I still need to learn more. I took various classes from other artists.A year before I took the Foundational program, i took the Mastery Program for a month… just a month because i was not ready. I was new to painting and had a hard time adjusting and understanding the terms and concepts mentioned by the teachers. But now, I am planning to go back to the MP. What i can say is this: i do not believe that the MP is beginner-friendly. You have to have some experience or be an experienced-beginner at least. You are free to buy your own supplies or use whatever you have in your studio. Up to this day, I am still finding my voice and style and I think this is what the MP is good at, because they let you explore different media, and they discipline or push you to paint everyday and “prolifically”; this is what can help you find your voice/style. I agree that the students’ work look very similar but you do not have to be that way. I have made friends with a former student and her work is totally not like the MP graduates’ work but i love her work because they look organic. I, too, want my work to look like me, and not some kind of fantasy, fairy-tale like paintings. Too bad that Milan shows work of graduates that look the same when there are so many great arts that reflect landscapes, animals, humans, still life…etc. I believe that MP is more of a tip and techniques school , (not foundational) AND if you have experiences already in drawing and painting, i think MP will be great. I have not seen other art school that helps students find their voice and sell their art. I think the latter two factors are what make up the Mastery Program.

As I understand, you don’t have to buy the supplies from Milan. I searched the warmth and cool on the colors myself online. Also it is not skipping the color theory. It gives a deeper understanding of colors. There are warm and cool blues, warm and cool yellow etc. I didn’t paint with oil before, so I was really glad to learn that with oils you see the difference- not like with Acrylic paint. It is true, that a lot of students and teachers have a similar style. But I hope to have developed my own… I work full time and have a family, so I take my time and go slow… I also skipped a few lessons so far…

I think it seems like that because a lot of the students are attracted to that style. It seemed like that to me in the beginning too, but over time I have seen many more styles from former and current Mastery students. It's not what I want to paint, but I'm still struggling to find my voice as an artist. I was recently diagnosed with ADHD, and notice I like trying everything, and it's been hard to settle on one thing. My work life was the same, so no surprise. I have since learned that you can paint whatever you want - a different style every day - and if somebody likes it they will buy it. I have sold all kinds of things I've painted, no 2 things alike. But the program has inspired me to paint almost every day, and I am loving my new life as an artist! You do you. Nobody tells you what to paint.

Why do you have to bash the program? As you were enlightened and found cheaper supplies or other ways of doing art. So be it. Take it for what you can get and continue to invest in your journey how you see fit No need to bash because your not where you want to be yet.
I love your channel….hope you will feed it more. Thank you so much for sharing your point of view!
Wow. This is soooo shady. The upselling is ridiculous at those markups. There are inks and good paints and supplies for a fraction on amazon. I’ll skip it cuz it’s a fortune and the subject matter doesn’t inspire me. Loved the free motivational (of course promotional) free webinars on yt but okay i’m good 😢😂
I am in the program in the mixed media portion right now. I did not buy any kits from them. I looked ahead in the lessons and saw I really wouldnt need all of that. I dont know why you bought it all.
You may become professionnal after the programme it doesn't mean that you can live of your art. This can or not happen at all.
I appreciate your opinions and input.
Oh, I love the program. I’ve taken some others that did not compare in value at all. I will be going through it again. I love the brushes. Please tell me where to buy them cheaper.
Thanks for the review. I have been dreaming of doing the programme but the price is staggering in South African Rand.
When you buy the course, you will get a LIFETIME access! That could be enough to practice by your own pace and revisit theory and guidance videos as you need them (or not).
Thank you for your honest review, I found it really helpful.
Thank you for your perspective. I can’t find your Instagram handle. Can you post it here?
It’s been a while. Can you make an update on this course? I’m considering to take the course. Thanks much!
Thank you for your review, it certainly is helpful. Can you share how you discovered who the manufacturers for the brushes and paint are ? You got me curious and If I can purchase those supplies at a better price, I would really appreciate that. TY !
They have several free videos that tell you the brands
I don’t see instagram link ? Think you removed it
Thank you so much for the review❤ I almost bought this program but the podcast helped me to decide against it. Your video has helped me further. I had apprehended that they will teach the same type of art that I don’t even like . Thank you again !
I haven’t done the program I’m sure it’s great but seems like everyone paints in the same style same subjects… not truly original to the student but more like “Milan” style
Did you finish the programme? I would like to see your art but I can't find you on instagram.
Too bad.
Where does it say she quit
@StarvingArtistWanderingFree I would love to see your art but I cannot find you on instagram. I am also in the program and I would like to know what you think after finishing. Pros and cons? I had the same reservations that you did.
Wow this is mind blowing
As I understand, you are not required to purchase the kits.
It's not required but they tell you that they are going to teach you how to use their paint system, and they tell you that you very much need to be specific about which paints that you buy, and then they don't tell you which pants you need. Unfortunately that leaves you with one option and that is to buy their pants, which are overpriced
I haven’t done the program but honestly what bothers me is how everyone that takes it develops a pretty identical style.. like there’s almost no originality in the artwork produced by the students
So true! And I don’t even like the styles that they are promoting … I don’t understand how they call it sellable… I wouldn’t buy that kind of art..
I haven’t done the program but have been watching KZread videos of people going through the program. I have been working on my art with these videos in mind. I joined ArtSocial App but not ArtClub. and posted not only paintings but also questions with not one reply or ‘like’. I feel like it may be a bit cliquey. Maybe you need to be in ArtClub and the program to get anyone to participate in dialogue. AlwaysTurningHeads
I didn't realize this but yes this is true
That’s exactly why I don’t want to take it
