    Some of the strongest warnings in the Bible concern loving the world. One of the major components of the "world" that Jesus is calling us out of is sports. People, run as fast as you can away from a "Christianity" that excuses it's love of the world of sports and sporting events. No matter how otherwise sincere those who do so may appear as Christians, in the end they will be exposed as only propagating their "vain imaginations," which are actually in opposition to Christ and His words.

    Exactly, having these events and others such as football, basketball, and others on the Lord's day, isn't by accident. "Love not the world and the things of the world, he who loves, the love of the Father is not in him". What I've heard is that the world leaders who set up these games got together and decided to put a man dressed in a woman's costume to light the torch, and also made a blasphemous depiction of the Last Supper, with our Lord and his disciples dressed as flaming sodomites. I understand Paul referred to different sports as an example of our christian race, but how can anyone say anything good about these modern day perverted games after knowing of their antichrist agenda, is hard for me to fathom. I have to chalk it up to ignorance in Joel's case, for I believe he is truly following the Lord up to what he knows. And it seems to me he needs a little more instruction.

    There is only ONE way to have unity in the church, which also is the goal of the gospel. That is for each member of Christ's Body, whose true head is Christ and Christ alone, which is the only church recognized by God, dies to their own will by allowing the cross to bring about a real death to their "flesh" (Adamic nature). That independent fallen will, which infected the whole human race when the parents of the race ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (the human "opinion tree"), is the source of all conflict in the world, whether in the church or out of the church. And no amount of preaching, teaching or opining on the subject of unity, including steps of how to have unity, will ever bring about true unity. Not until each Christian's fallen will has been lost at the cross and swallowed up in Christ, which again is the true goal of the Christian Faith, is it possible to have unity.

    Thank you for sharing this tender moment with everyone. Oh, how we rejoice that she is with her Master and yet, how we weep with you, her beloved family. She was such a crown of glory to Pastor Paul and to you all...and to those of us who were graced by God to have known her and shared in a small way a part of her excellent and virtuous life. We loved her. We love our dearest Pastor, Paul and your family. May the comforting arms of the Holy Spirit embrace you as you journey through this difficult time. One day...there will be no more sorrow or parting, no death or sighing,...but a glad and glorious reunion!

    -- "On the day of preperation, at the hour of dinner, there came out pursuers and horsemen" and Polycarp was killed "on the great day of the Sabbath, at the eighth hour" (The encyclical epistle of the church at Smyrna, the Martyrdom of Polycarp, Bishop of Smyrna. Verses 7.1 & 8.1 Charles H. Hoole's 1885 translation.) -- "Again as to the assertion that Sabbath has been abolished. We deny that He has abolished it plainly; for He was Himself Lord of the Sabbath." (Archelaus c. 3rd century.) -- "Gnostic 8th day Origins" "They affirm that man was formed on the eighth day, for sometimes they will have him been made on the sixth day, and sometimes on the eighth, unless perchance they mean that the earthly part was formed on the sixth day, but his fleshly part on the eighth, for these two things are distinguished by them." (Irenaeus of Lyons c. 2nd century.) -- The Gnostic "Eight Day" origins of Sunday rest. "But the works of the Nicolaitans in that time were false and troublesome men, who, as ministers under the name of Nicholas, had made for themselves a hersey, to the effect that what might be offered to Idols might be exorcised and eaten, and whoever should have committed fornication might receive peace on the eighth day." (Victorinious of Pettau c. 3rd century.) -- "For almost all the churches throughout the world celebrate the mysteries on the Sabbath of every week, yet the Christians of *Alexandria and Rome* on account of some *ancient tradition* cease to do this." (Socrates Scholasticus c. 380 - 439 A.D.) -- "There are many here among us now, who fast on the same day as the Jews, [Rome made the Sabbath day a fast] and keep the Sabbaths in the same mannor." (John Chrysostom c. 339 - 407 A.D.) -- 'Primitive Christianity' Athanasius Bishop of Alexandria tells us that "They assemble on Saturday, not that they are infected with Judaism, but only to worship Christ the Lord of the Sabbath" (Pseudo Athanasius; William Cave c. 1676) -- "Thus Christ did not at all rescind the Sabbath, He kept the law thereof.....even in the case before us He fulfilled the law while interpreting its condition; moreover, He exhibits in a clear light the different kinds of work, while doing what the law excepts from the sacredness of the Sabbath and while imparting to the Sabbath itself, which from the beginning had been consecrated by the Benediction of the Father. An additional sanctity by His own Beneficent action. For He furnished to this day divine safeguards..... *a course which His adversary would have pursued for some other days, to avoid honouring the Creator's Sabbath* and restoring to the Sabbath the works which were proper for it." (3rd century Tertillian on the Sabbath.) *Council of Laodicea* canon 29 A.D. 363 "Christians must not Judaize by resting on the sabbath day, but must work on that day, rather honoring --the Lord's Day-- [Sun-day] and, if they can, resting as Christians. But if they they shall be found to be Judaizers, let them be an anathema from Christ." ^ Proof that true Christianity still remembered the sabbath day, to keep it Holy, even in the fourth century A.D. And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. {Revelation 18:4}

    The law of God and the laws of Moses where both (separate) laws of the old covenant. And *the LORD spake unto you out of the midst of the fire* ye heard the voice of the words, but saw no similitude; only ye heard a voice. And *he declared unto you his covenant* which he commanded you to perform, even ten commandments; *and he wrote them upon two tables of stone* And *the LORD commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and judgments* that ye might do them in the land whither ye go over to possess it. {Deuteronomy 4:12-14} Neither will I make the feet of Israel move any more out of the land which I gave their fathers; only *if they will observe to do according to all that I have commanded them* and *according to all the law that my servant Moses commanded them* {2 Kings 21:8} Yea, all Israel have transgressed thy law, even by departing, *that they might not obey thy voice* therefore the curse is poured upon us, and *the oath that is written in the law of Moses* the servant of God, because we have sinned against him. {Daniel 9:11}

    And it came to pass, when Moses had made an end of writing the words of this law in a book, until they were finished, That Moses commanded the Levites, which bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, saying, Take this book of the law, and *put it in the side of the ark of the covenant* of the LORD your God, *that it may be there for a witness against thee* For I know thy rebellion, and thy stiff neck: behold, while I am yet alive with you this day, ye have been rebellious against the LORD; and how much more after my death? Gather unto me all the elders of your tribes, and your officers, that I may speak these words in their ears, and *call heaven and earth to record against them* {Deuteronomy 31:24-28} And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all; Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant; {Hebrews 9:3-4}

    I was blessed by the story that Bible Teacher Stanley Grabill told of a young boy named Teddy Stallard (beginning at 40:46). And how his schoolteacher Mrs. Thompson gave her life to the Lord because of Teddy's actions toward her that came in the form of a Christmas gift wrapped in brown paper. Powerful message that everyone needs to hear. Touched my heart. ♥

    Just one question (for now). If God gave us everything we need to find and follow Him by giving us the Bible, what about the masses all down through history since then that were and the many that still are illiterate and can't read?

    Well there word of God says "all men are without excuse...", ans some "from every tribe and nation", there will be redeemed from, "every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation", which means you don't have to know how to read or own a Bible to know God. All you have to do is listen to the voice of God when He calls, and follow Him wherever He leads, for "God calls all men everywhere to repent".

    There's nothing that the fallen flesh loves to do more than to put on a big show and receive honor! But Jesus so clearly said - "How can you believe who receive honor from one another..." (John 5:44) You can't "show" Jesus to the world when you live just like the world, no matter what spin you try to put on it to justify yourselves. Jesus said He'd draw all people to Himself when He is lifted up. But we enjoy lifting ourselves up and so deceive ourselves by insisting that we're doing it for Jesus and displaying the talents He gave us. But Jesus didn't die on the cross and open a door for mankind's reconciliation to God so that we can entertain the world. His true church is to come out of the world and then help lead others out of the world and into Christ!
