Mt Shasta Escape

Mt Shasta Escape

I’m Mike documenting my family’s outdoors adventures. I’m 71 years old 🙂. I hope you enjoy going along with Joline and our dogs Kashie and Sadie. We hike, climb mountains and ski. I also ride a motorcycle (usually on forest roads), a street motorcycle and ride an e-mountain bike on trails. We spend a lot of time boondocking in our travel trailer throughout the western states.

Joline and I live in the town of Mt Shasta near the volcanic 14er Mt Shasta. Rumor has it the ancient Lemurian civilization relocated to volcanic tunnels and caverns under Mt Shasta when their continent subsided into the ocean. You can decide that for yourself :)

    Caught some of your videos. I also own the 2024 Suzuki GSX-8S in the same color scheme. I first bought the 2024 Suzuki GSX-8R in blue but it took about 250 miles to realize I would have been happier with the 8S so I found a dealership that made an acceptable trade. I also have a 2023 Honda CB500X and a 2015 VStar 950T. It's taken me a while to accept that 1 bike wasn't going to work for me. While I would be interested in hearing about the VStrom I hope you reconsider giving up the 8S. Like you I think it's an awesome engine but I also think the style of the bike helps that experience and the VStrom might not give you the same feeling.

    Just came across your channel. Its a beautiful part of the world you live in. I am a new rider with a GSX-8S in the UK. Loving the bike and the handling of it. Planning on taking it across the UK and eventually a tour of Europe. Not taken it off road as yet but watching your video gives me an idea that it should be fairly capable on some easy tracks if I ever do find myself off the tarmac. Thanks for the content.

    I thtew caution to the wind and jammed a paperclip into holes 1 and three while the bike was on with no ill effects twice now. Probably much better to insert a small wire with the bike off, but I had no issues fwiw. Just know for sure which holes are 1 and 3 😆

    What windshield is installed on this 8s?

  • @1MikeMorrison
    @1MikeMorrison26 күн бұрын

    An MRA (with a puig wind deflector on top now). Keeps wind off chest, hits at bottom of helmet. Airflow is clean on helmet

    Very well done video. What gauge wire did you use?

  • @1MikeMorrison
    @1MikeMorrison27 күн бұрын

    Smallest hole on my wire stripper is 20 (goes from 10 to 20). Easily fits there (and stripper works with that hole)

    I made a short video on changing modes while riding. Just have to be totally off throttle when doing it. A quick blip works

    Good review. It's such a lovely bike. You might find that if you pre load the quick shifter a second before you change, it changes so much smoother.

    Nice video and bike. I have a 2024 8S the same color as yours. What windscreens are you sporting? How do they work for you?

  • @1MikeMorrison
    @1MikeMorrisonАй бұрын

    MRA screen with a puig deflector on top. They do a good job of taking the pressure off your chest and leave the air flow over the helmet smooth (they don’t keep wind off the helmet). The puig deflector is the small one. On this ride wind was gusting close to 30 mph when getting close to Redding on the interstate. Without the wind protection it would have been hard to hold on. With the screen and deflector it wasn’t too bad!

    Don’t see many people on my rides on the forest roads, but when I have they have been nice folks. Had some conversations about motorcycles (fun!). Just finished a ride up there today and got behind some folks in a jeep. They found a spot to let me by and waved (and I gave them a thanks). I’ve occasionally seen bears, but always moving away from me. I’ve been living in bear country for many years and never had a problem. I also go the other way if I see bear cubs (no stopping for pictures 😨). Haven’t seen a mountain lion in the area - including not seeing tracks or scat. We lived in mountain lion country in Colorado and tracks and scat were plentiful. They hate dogs so hiking with our dogs likely was a deterrent. But mountain lion attacks on anyone are very rare same for bear attacks. Never felt the need to carry a firearm. Hope this helps. Cheers!

    Nice video and bike I purchased the exact color bike the day after Christmas. 2024 model. On the way home about two block from home, stalled it at a stop sign and dumped it. Broke the ball off the brake lever. Since then I put on T-Rex sliders on frame and wheels. I really like this bike. For a twin cylinder, 80 HP, she is wicked fast. Congratulations and keep the shiny side up!

    Rode it on a washboarded road and the somewhat stiff suspension made it painful when sitting. Stand, however and all is well. If I ever make the bike more adventure ready, I’ll add bar risers to the list. As is, it pulls you further forward and lower than I like (but okay for now)

    Tried @damon1957ful’s method. Works great! Quick blip off throttle is enough to allow changing traction control or sdms. No engine braking to speak of if done quickly. Appreciate the comments on this!

    I have the 23 Z650 and I love it, not perfect but I am also 5’7” and to be able to flat foot is huge. I would of considered the GSX 8S but at that time there were none available. I have looked at the Suzuki at my dealership and in my opinion and I’m a Kawi man the finish doesn’t seem as good compared to the Z650. Both bikes are good good luck with yours.
