We started Mami Wata because of love and belief. Our love for surfing, design and Africa. Our belief in the Power of African surf.
“Mami Wata” is West African pidgin English literally meaning ‘Mama Water’… ‘Mother Ocean’ if you prefer. From Madagascar to Morocco, Liberia to Mozambique, Mami Wata is the African water spirit who appears in the shape of a mermaid. It is said that those who she takes for her lovers, return with a new spirit and become more successful and good looking. She is a symbol of fertility, a protector of women and children, a guardian of sea creatures and natural environments.
Our mission at Mami Wata is to be a creative force for good in Africa.
Look Good. Do Good. Surf Good.

What a JOY to hear the Woo Woo story behind Mami Wata Surf and how it has come to set up here in the United States as a pop-up in Venice, CA!!! Can't WAIT to visit! I had no idea of who any of the founders were of Mami Wata Surf, for I could NOT find this out in the "about" link from the home site. All I knew is that the designs were so incredible, the movie shorts GORGEOUS, and the concept and vision simply made of dreams. Bless you for allowing us to be filled by such alignment of music, art, water, visions, unity, Africa, and the mysticism of Mami Wata herself...known as Yemaya for us Nigerian African descendants...our Yoruba Ancestral cultural belief in the Mother of Creation...our Goddess of the 7 Oceans...Mother of all the Orishas...Bless you all for what you do and HOW you do it! So HEALING and EXCITING! Ashe!
Unique bottle suppose to smell like a green soap bar, Irish spring?
