Jason Kingsley CBE, the Modern Knight, investigates the medieval world. We aim to research and test out what it was actually like for both ordinary people, Peasants and Townspeople, as well as the nobility like Knights and Lords. Jason owns and trains his own warhorses, Jousts competitively, fights in medieval armour and tests theories practically and sometimes to destruction. Mostly about the historical medieval in England, we occasionally venture into other aspects of history and occasionally fantasy like Lord of the Rings or Dungeons and Dragons. We are a historically researched factual channel useful to writers and gamers as well and people interested in historical documentaries.

The Cart Song (?) "cockles and Mussels" comes to mind
A lot of times people wud eat the poor mans pork, aka hunan meat
The meat was probably wandering lost souls ,peter paul and harry lol
Great demonstration thank you.
Woohoo those batteries are sooo good for the environment and are charged by Unicorn Piss and Puppy Drool yep umm humm
Learn history lest you repeat the errors of your ancestors. Do not be a snowflake...
You ask the innkeeper if there is any work and they give you a bounty letter. Duh.
Ghost needs work to make him happy. There are some standing things that just gently tug the tail or touch the back that help develop rear muscles, maybe ask an enduro rider or your vet..
As far as the ripening they are kind of our American persimmons, they are very astringent until a hard frost they get sweet. Nasty cloying sweet.
Wait, peasants ate?
Really loved this video and breakdown. Though I do wonder why you haven't been knighted yet for your service to British history and as a country ambassador. CBE is pretty great (I certainly won't earn anything equivalent) but you're more qualified for knighthood than Paul McCartney...LOL.
Great demonstration thank you
What can man do with that pitchfork at this mulch pile.
The knights templar was most definitely real. They owned a lot of land thru out Europe. They runed the farms as a modern companies. There fore you have all these records and seemingly awkward and specifics, days of work a week, nr of hens and eggs etc.
6:02 Look at that nobleman! What a gorgeous horse!
We are still being a type of slave/serfs
I think the way the would know what food belong too is how they did bread. The would market with a specific mark like the first letter of your name.
Context: I love this channel, i find it super informative and incredibly interesting. Observation: If the birds were super content and happy to just stay there, why require the leash? I'm sure they're well fed and enjoy their time being there, but also as they said, they're wild animals; it's a little uncomfortable that this still exists.
Because they are impulsive apparently and might suddenly do something silly and get into trouble.
Hot sheep's feet still exists. They're called "Sheep's trotters" now. I'd try it. It's just mutton, only difference is it's on the bone. If you imagine people are walking around with things to do meat on the bone would be convenient. You could hold it and eat while walking. Might look strange or gross to us today but to a common person from the middle ages one of us eating a drumstick would look just as strange and gross since that's an animal they wouldn't normally eat either. Taste-wise though I bet it wasn't half bad.
Courser meat is hot dogs !
You mean were they owned by the land owners then yes
Serfs could not leave their Lord and go and work for someone else. This was underlined after the Plague, when for a time serfs were able to sell themselves to the highest bidder. The Lords couldn't have that and knocked that on the head. So, whichever way you want to hold your tongue, they were slaves.
Munging in mornin munging in evening munging at supper time
I can answer the question of how someone would know which pie was theirs at a bake shop. Apparently every family had a distinctive design that would be pricked into the top crust. I learned this from a friend who uses her family’s design on pies to this very day. It’s been handed down from mother/aunt to daughter since at least Victorian times.
There could be wealthy people living far from the pie shop and with spices? No?
How much did the nobles eat at cookshops or visit taverns? Ancient Roman writers speak of visiting such places as tolerable in a high born man's younger wild years, but not something he should be doing when he gets older. Henry IV of course has a fictional future Henry V as a prodigal son who specifically visits taverns.
It seems like they didn't, it was mostly an urban poor location.
When Elsinore the (Chaotic evil) Chaos Knight enters the tavern, he always casts teleport to the null/nightmare/hell equivalent realm on a coin purse and throws it somewhere someone is aure to see it and grab it. Then, the fun/feast begins.
I have a gray kitty named Ghost
The Tabard isn't still standing... It was destroyed during the great fire of London in the 1600s, then rebuilt as the Talbot before being demolished in the late 1800s.
I absolutely love this guy's content. Super pleasant and well spoken
There was more to serfdom. You could for example annul a contract and and bring in new surfs, you could even have them killed in certain situations however it was not merely the law that made this hard it was the fact that they basically knew everything about the property they were administering and how to make money out of it. A new owner in fact need not take the surfs in some countries and could even replace them with slaves but they would often not do this because slave could not replace serf workers. They would find local men or women with nothing to their name in case of broken lineages to marry into serfdom and keep the household going. They had sometimes generations and it was a pseudo form of ownership on the land
How hard was it to kill a man in plate and uae that armor yourself? How hard was it to take chainmail from a defeated foe and use it yourself?
maille would be much easier to reuse as it can work with most shapes and sizes of body (within reason). Plate is hard to reuse unless you're a similar size. Parts might work
How to poop in your armor: Poop in your armor. A squire's job is never finished.
A lot of Central and Easter European countries still have their main meal in the middle of the day.
We are all slaves. To others sometimes But mostly to ourselves I'm a voluntary slave to my family To provide for them for their every need I have to eat, sleep and clothe myself Nothing is free. We all have to work for our necessities, even if there were no one else around
Have worn mail, fk me its heavy
Are employees slaves? Some of them I guess.
Thanks for the video. I play an Innkeeper at my town's medieval faire. ❤
You have very beautiful and well behaved horses
Sheeps head and sheeps feet is amazing food, its called "kale pache" meaning head and feets ,which is an Iranian cuisine still served today
We have this fruit in north parts of Iran, they grow wild, and funny enough there is a common belief that these fruits can cure diarrhea and may make you constipated
This gives me inspiration to run a d&d campaign where the 'heroes' are just innkeepers/staff when the main party comes to town.
But school history and every mainstream source has assured by that the English have only ever been oppressors Obviously being called a slur in a civilized English country or colony is much worse than being able to be killed in your own country at will
He's not liking the bit at all.
I find this guys channel strangely hypnotic The Hoof GP - www.youtube.com/@TheHoofGP.
I bet they didn’t stink THAT bad. Stinky stuff comes from out modern diets. Natural foods lead to less stink.
"And your PISS will also be collected" lmao idk why, but the way you said that made me die
Its amazing how similar medieval fast Food is to modern asian fast food shops where the stores are highly specialized in one or two different types of food and its delicious
At least use something like a watermelon.
I usually do. It took me ages to tidy up.
