One OU QB went 25 - 0 (yep, never lost a single game!) TWO national championships! Had 11 interceptions in the NFL…..as a cornerback! A punt returner with a better career average (14.6) than Ryan Broyles. Sounds too good to be true. His name?....Jimmy Harris (1955).

I was at that Texas State game and i was hoarse for a week from screaming after that win. We stayed for an hour after the game and we touched that goal post every time we saw it. ❤

My freshman year at K-State was in 1993 where student season tickets cost $50. I was from Kansas, but the 3 years prior I had lived in West Virgina and didn't know anything about K-State's football program. I decided to buy the tickets and I had a great time at the games that were never sold out(except for KU), however through the season the games were becoming more popular. I got a couple of tickets for my parents to watch the CU game late in the season, however they had general admission while I had the student section...luckily since the games were not sold out we all sat together on the end of the horseshoe to see Kevin Lockett make the one handed catch to set up the field goal to tie the game. Great memories, great content..the only bit of info that is incorrect is that Quentin Neujahr was gone in 1992. He was playing in 1993(my freshman year) and was picked up as a unrestricted free agent in April of '94. I know this because all of the fans that were hoping to see some K-State players get drafted to the NFL knew there were only three chances..Thomas Randolph(2nd round pick), First-team All-American Jaime Mendez(my favorite player but ended up FA), and Quentin Neujahr. Sorry about the correction, but after all the years of success but still to be called by some sports announcers as "Kansas" you learn to quickly respond to mistakes. Great content and thank you!

...so everyone runs the wishbone today? No? Some teams do? No? Nobody does? So, like most innovations in football, some one finds a way to stop it. Now a days we see the modern version of the single wing offense. What's old, becomes new again.

Only found this series today. Fantastic! Only wished you'd have mentioned my alma mater in this vid. As a young lad in the late 70s through early 80s, I was enamored with this offense. To the point where I'd spend my free time as an undergraduate in the library reading books on this. Concurrently, my alma mater, switched from a "pro-set" (read "I" and split back formations) offense to the flexbone when Dick Tomey left to take the Arizona job after the '86 season. New HC (Tomey's DC), Bob Wagner, wanting to shake things up offensively; lured Paul Johnson away from Georgia Southern to be his OC. This was at the University of Hawaii at the start of the 1987 season. This drastic offensive philosophy change lead to a first bowl game for Hawaii ('89 Aloha Bowl vs. Michigan State) and an eventual WAC championship and Holiday Bowl win over Illinois in 1992. Current San Jose State and former long time Navy HC, Ken Niumatalolo, was a QB at Hawaii during this time period. He would end up back with Johnson when Johnson left Hawaii for the OC job at Navy...

In 1984 i was a hs all american triple option qb. Barry Switzer even came to my hs and surprised me at a pep ralley. He told my mom and dad that I would be a great fit and would probably start after a redshirt year I was so excited I committed without even a visit. Three weeks later i got a call from their recruiter who told me that they had to recind their offer, they unexpectedly stumbled on another qb that fit their system better. Boy did they made a good choice. Damn Jamelle Holiway. :)

I used to watch college football all day long as a kid and teenager. I did not enjoy watching wishbone offenses because it became boring to watch a team run, run, run, score, score, score with virtually no defense to keep up.

Don't see it mentioned but Royal was born and raised in....Hollis, Oklahoma. When we would cross the Red River into Texas on the holidays to go to my grand parents house for dinner, I could always look forward to the conversation between my dad (from Oklahoma) and my grand dad (on my mothers side...from Texas) "Well, looks like the horns hooked you Sooners again!" - Grandpa "Sure they did. They are being coached by Royal. The okie from Hollis"! - My Dad ....until. OU started winning. Then they didn't talk football anymore. But do to an unspoken bet, we kids all got the best burgers at Bevo's for dinner in the 70's!
