I was trying to figure out why you had to ramp up the rear sight for close in shooting, and it occurred to me that you're firing so close you had to lift the sights so your line of sight compensated for the roughly 1.5" difference in the line of bore to the line of sight. Meaning you're now intersecting as the bullet comes up in its arc through the line of sight, and will eventually pass through the line of sight again far downrange. This BTW is the method we use in the military as our zero at 25M is also roughly the zero for 300M, representing the upward and downward crossing of the line of sight in the arc of the bullet. How's that for getting technical. SSG. U.S. Army (Medically Retired) Infantry / Sniper / SOF Intel (SOT-A), multiple tours

A little softball on the questions, and giving the police a lot of extra credit, for things. Some points, from my experiences 53 minutes on hold on a Tuesday lunchtime, plus 23 minute conversation to register 2 rifles, that I couldn’t register online (types not in the system) And the biggest problem, is you can only ring them during work days/work hours. Which is quite hard (I took a day off work to ring and register mine). There is still a real attitude amongst firearm clubs, (at least ones I am a member of) that the police is the enemy, who is out to screw over the firearm community, which I think police will find hard to overcome.

Most guns in NZ are not owned for hunting..... not much mention of that. It's the sport shooters that were so badly impacted by the cockamamie reaction to Chch...... Having lost 3 of my rifles and ended up about $2000 out of pocket, I cannot say that I am confident about the power that the register will give the government, as well as police. The view of guns in society has changed radically over the last 40 years, and not for the better. Many of us are feeling rather besieged..... we have recently been treated abominably by the powers that be, and we did no wrong at all.

Im using Tac R1 as a relaible, cheap and accurate enough trainig rifle to save money on 5.56 ammo. I have put red dot and 3x magnifier (both not expensive Leapers brand) and changed original iron sights (which are actually plastic) to at3. Tac R1 have adjustable bolt speed spring so it's possible to tune rifle to various loads, mine is adjusted to cheapest Magtech ammo I could get and it works without malfunctions. Accuracy wise - shooting 1x red dot off hand and standing I got about 95% hits in 20cm circle at 50 meters. Hammerli tac r1 works for me.

I have 2 94s, one traditional American-made, and one Cowboy edition, also American made. They are both sleek and elegant, well handling. I also have a Henry Wildlife 30-30. Between the two, the Henry has a smoother action, albeit with a beefier, bigger bellied forehead. The 94s are very mechanical feeling, and require a forceful working. The Henry is like cutting warm butter, very easy and smooth.
