Super interested to know the impact of using AI to get the answers you're after. Have you found LLMs are able to generate insights that short circuit problems so they make sense and click and ergo scale out? I suppose LLMs only have so much of a role until they are multimodal and can explain concepts visually too, like Claud 3.5 has started to do with artifacts etc. generating out code that pair natural language processing with visual aids.

Mr. Woo; Could you expand more on that idea of how permutations of algebraic polynomials reflects on Pascal's triangle. I had never thought in that way either.

  • @JivanPal

The coefficients of the a^k b^(n-k) terms in the expansion of (a+b)^n are the so-called "binomial coefficients", which are the elements of Pascal's triangle on the n'th row. One way to realise that this is the case is to observe that the coefficient of a^k b^(n-k) is the number of ways that you can write an expression of the form "aaa...ababa...bbb" with k amount of a's and n-k amount of b's. To use Mr Woo's example for n=5, consider k=3: (a+b)^5 = ... + X a^3 b^2 + ... What is X? Well, in the expansion of (a+b)^5, we will see the following terms consisting of three a's and two b's: 1: aaabb 2: aabab 3: aabba 4: abaab 5: ababa 6: abbaa 7: baaab 8: baaba 9: babaa 10: bbaaa Thus, X = 10. Note that the number 10 here arises because it is the number of ways that we can choose 3 items out of a set of 5. Namely, we have 5 positions to place an "a" or "b" into, and we must use exactly 3 of those positions for an "a"; the other 2 positions must be used for a "b".

I used ChatGPT to help study for the Math Praxis recently. I got my undergraduate degree in Computer Science over 10 years ago but I am transitioning into a career in teaching secondary math starting next year. I took the study guide from their website for the Praxis and for each category I asked GPT to teach the concept to me, generate a sample problem showing the steps to solve it, and then generate a few practice problems for me to work through and then I would give my answers and if incorrect I would focus on that area and try another generated problem once I was ready. GPT helped me relearn all of high school math in the span of studying like that over about 3 weeks, and, I passed. 😎

I have a bit of a pattern, of sorts, to what I wear. As I return clean clothes to my closet, I add them at the left hand side. I chose outfits to wear from the right hand side. There is a natural randomization that happens in this process. I also don't always feel like wearing the next shirt in sequence, so I skip to one I feel like wearing that day. This is not a rule without exceptions, but it helps me. We have a different dress code on friday's also, that goes in the mix. Thank you for all the good you share.

I agree and also have found I enjoy these informative videos for my own knowledge, exploration, development and understanding however effective supervision is just as important. Giving teachers effective feedback, acknowledging well being and alterity would be beneficial for all staff development, workplace relations and the students. A well supported teacher has positive impact and affects for students. Professional reflection is not always univerally appreciated nor attended to in the same way. Graduate students bring a wealth of new theory, individual experiences and knowledge, and enthusiasm and this needs nurturing not demeaning (not all experiences) to motivate and maintain workplace interest.

In my experience as a teacher, I see a lot of these types of lectures and information. There are a lot of 'experts' out there and they all have these wonderfull explanations about what to do, some even wrote book(s) about it but what they all seem to lack is concrete examples to work from. It's all talk but very little actual content. Especially when it comes to differentiated learning.

Yeah, it was only at university (Bachelor of Engineering) where I actually learned mathematics. I kind-of got by in high school because I memorised some procedures, not because I really understood what I was doing in mathematics. I wish my current self could go back and explain how I currently see the subject matter to my high school self. It's just so much easier to do when the _meaning_ finally clicks! 😅 And that's especially important because it doesn't need much effort to memorise stuff if you actually understand it properly. I would have been a whole lot less stressed if I didn't have to try to memorise so much stuff at high school. 😢
