    My all-time fav Zepplin tune, here's some trivia for you guys. How did they get that crazy echo sound in that song? Let's see if you know the answer.....

    I have read that they recorded the song in the key of G and then slowed down the whole thing approximately 1 whole step to F. I don’t know how they got the echo.

    Hello... Great video... I was wondering, how do you pull up a virtual desktop inside of the cockpit?

  • @AliasMrJones
    @AliasMrJones4 жыл бұрын

    I use an x-plane plugin called movevr which lets you bring any window from your desktop into the cockpit in vr.

    This was a REALLY COOL video cause it shows YOU, and what YOU are doing as well as the what the "pilot" sees in VR. I've always wondered how one can interact with "physical controls" such as yoke, rudder pedals, TPM etc and use VR at the same time. I'm guessing you cannot see those physical controls when you are wearing VR goggles?? I have a home cockpit (C172) and have been considering getting VR ... still doing a little research into the best system. Any suggestions on VR equipment? I am using xplane 11. THANK YOU for sharing and posting. Two thumbs up. 👍👍

    You are correct - I cannot see any of the physical controls, however I find it very easy to use them by feel. I have a yoke with buttons on the yoke as well as a couple of levers on the base and throttle...all easy to find by feel. Feet are always on the rudder pedals so no problem there. I have a radio panel as well, which is right next to the yoke and also not difficult to use by feel. Using physical controls by feel is easier than trying to use the virtual controls in VR for fiddly things like radio, altitude setting, throttle, etc. Especially when the knob isn't right next to the display like for setting autopilot heading in some aircraft. I have both Oculus Rift and Vive Pro...Vive Pro has higher resolution, but is only slightly better than Rift. I have been considering getting the Valve Index headset - similar resolution, but uses a different kind of screen with less screen door effect. If I were buying a VR setup for flight sim today, I would get that. The controllers look like they attach to your hand, though, so not sure how well that would work. As you can see, I put the controller in my lap when flying and pick it up when I need to activate something. Not sure how possible that is with the Index hand controllers. Also, you should know that you need a very powerful system to handle VR at acceptable frame rates - basically the most powerful system available. I have an i7 8086k overclocked to 5.1ghz and RTX 2080ti and get acceptable framerates with medium to high settings. In cities where there are lots of objects, it is on the fringe of unacceptable so you have to think about not just VR setup, but also your computer system. VR in flight sim is in an awkward place right now. The immersion is INCREDIBLE. I feel like I'm sitting in the cockpit of the plane and I can feel my height above the ground, etc. The resolution of the headsets, though, makes it hard to read smaller type or signs that are farther away. There is a quick zoom function that you can see me use all the time in the video to compensate, but you shouldn't have to do that. It really is a tradeoff between resolution/clarity and immersion. Unfortunately, VR is not a slam dunk right now. Having said that, I always fly VR now so to me the immersion is definitely worth it.

    How is the immersion in vive pro?

  • @AliasMrJones
    @AliasMrJones5 жыл бұрын

    IsraeliXdude The immersion is awesome - you are sitting IN the cockpit. The stereoscopic 3d is also incredible. Every knob and lever has depth and you feel your height above the ground. I find that really helps with landings. Resolution is really the only drawback to VR at this time.

    @@AliasMrJones Thanks. Even the resolution of vive pro is not enough, do you not supersample?

  • @AliasMrJones
    @AliasMrJones5 жыл бұрын

    IsraeliXdude I do supersample. I think I have it set at 1.5x. Computer power is a limiting factor there and I have the most powerful cpu/graphics card available. There is some screen door effect that no amount of supersampling is going to remove and small text can be hard to read. The quick zoom feature makes it workable. I also have an Oculus and I think the optics in the Rift are better than Vive Pro so the pixel density upgrade doesn’t translate to as much of an improvement as I expected. The increased resolution of the Vive Pro makes small text slightly easier to read than Rift, but not significantly and the price is substantially higher. Having said all of this, I 100% flight sim with VR. The resolution issues are outweighed by the immersion and 3d vision and there is no way I could go back to looking at a screen.

    @@AliasMrJones That is odd, i have read countless time that optics on rift are inferior to vive, you know thT you can replace lenses on vive pro.

  • @AliasMrJones
    @AliasMrJones5 жыл бұрын

    IsraeliXdude I have read all over that resolution is better, but I have seen nothing about the optics being better. I think the whole reason people replace the lenses are because of the inferior optics. Otherwise I have no explanation for why the Vive Pro is not visually significantly better than the Rift given that resolution is significantly higher. I have also read on the internet that SDE is not present on Vive Pro and I can tell you that it definitely is present.
