Adam on Foot

Adam on Foot

What you see here is my attempt to share the beauty and history of Northern California's many public parks and hiking trails. The videos will focus on my home of Sonoma County and the greater North Bay region, along with occasional excursions to some of my favorite state and national parks. For those of you planning your own hike, I aim to provide information that will help you to maximize your experience. For those unable to experience these parks first hand, my goal is to bring the experience to you.

I am a 20 something husband and father of three. By day I work to make the world a better place one spreadsheet at a time. By night I am a cook, a mechanic, a house keeper and a jungle gym. I'm not a fitness nut and I never went to Boy Scouts. I'm just the guy next-door who decided to get off the couch and see what is out there. Join me as I take you from valley to peak.

    Hi Adam, Thanks for the trail review. I am a moderate hiker. I am dropping my friends to go hot air ballooning. And, while we wait was debating between the Shiloh regional north ridge trail and the Foothill regional alta vista loop. Looking for something around 2 hours. Which in your opinion has the better views?

    My favorite time of the year to climb is when it snows. I put on warm running gear and run up to the south peak. When there is a good snow, youll get 6-8 inches. Ive run to the south peak in 33 minutes. Its a tough run. All uphill. The fun part is coming back down and slipping on the snow while running and taking a spectacular wipeout. It doest hurt that much do to the cushion of snow. At the peak on a clear day, you can see the Golden Gate Bridge and sea. Highly recommend this climb. Not too difficult.

    If you hike at a brisk pace without taking any breaks, you can make it to the north peak in under 2 hours. I hiked to the south peak last week and did that power walk all the way up without a break and it took me exactly 90 minutes. Needless to say, I was hungry, thirsty and very tired by the time I got to the picnic benches at the top. Thankfully, the way back is entirely downhill, unlike the hike to Table Rock. People frequently underestimate the Mt St Helena hike. It will kick one's butt if the person hiking it is not in good shape.

    I've hiked that mountain many times and enjoyed every hike. I have captured images of San Francisco skyline from the top. When it snows you might catch a bear track on the trail near the top. My trail camera has captured a bear near the trail head several times but since the fires that part of the park has been closed so I can't check to see if the bear made it. I sure hope they don't do as they did after fires took out Boggs Forest just up the road a bit. After two years it is still closed to the public. Thanks for this video. It will be interesting to compare it to whatever is left of the forest up there once the public is allowed back in.

The next is Alamere Falls on the coast south of Point Reyes. I would definitely like to record in Hood and Sugarloaf. Thank you for the support. It's nice to know they are appreciated.

    I really enjoyed your video. If you don't mind, would you compare the incline on this trail similar to Mount Diablo? Easier? Harder? I appreciate your feedback. Thank you!!

  • @adamonfoot2638
    @adamonfoot26387 жыл бұрын

    +Brandi Green Hi Brandi. Unfortunately I can't make that comparison because I have not been to Mount Diablo yet. What I can tell you is that the first mile or so before you get to the fire road is the steepest part. Once you get to the fire road it is a gradual but very steady climb. I hope that helps.

    Hey Adam! Wow! I underestimated this hike! Your video was spot on and helped me navigate my way to the summit. Thank you! I would definitely would recommend this hike in cooler weather. This weekend's temperature added to the difficulty of this trail. It is slow and steady upwards, with no relief! The panoramic views from the top were amazing. Thank you again for your video. I felt knowledgeable and it made my experience more enjoyable. Thanks! I look forward to more videos from you!

If you know anyone else who might be interested in these videos, please share with them. I would love to get as much input as possible before I start my spring hiking/recording.

    You should try Bothe-Napa Valley State Park, I worked there. It's known for the furthest Redwood stand inland open to the public. If you do, say Hi from JoeJoe to the people in the kiosk.

    +JoeJoe Clark thanks for the tip. What is the best time of year to visit the park? Should I go now or would it be better to wait till spring?

  • @joejoeclark5140

    Adam on Foot: My favorite time is in late winter-early spring, early summer, and fall. If you were to go right now Ritchey creek could be swollen, but there are ways around it. My favorite loop starts with Redwood trail, to the Coyote Peak Trail, South Fork trail, Ritchey creek trail - then back Redwood trail - totally about 3 to 4 miles loop. At one point there were plans to connect Sugarloaf State Park to Bothe-Napa because we back to back on the Sonoma and Napa county lines in the Mayacamas mountain range. Another nice trail is the history trail with a pioneer cemetery and Bale grist mill, where I had my wedding at. Spring is full of wildflowers: native irises, wood roses, and the beautiful/uncommon Calypso orchid. In the early summer, if you are lucky, you might see the rare Redwood lily, Lilium rubescens. In the fall, big maple leaves and black oak create a wonderful display of fall colors. I hope this helps. If you are interested of photos of the park, I have tons on my Instagram account: joejoeclark
