The mechanics of this piano need revision. Steinway, time to step up to the mark for Yunchan. he shows you all and more that you can expect of your pianos but I fear he has not yet met the piano that can do justice to his extraordinary abilities. Time for a new generation please.

@@catherinejones9396 Two responses for same thing, your memory is getting short ;) All I say is that this nonsensical escalation in superlatives makes people say weird things. 200 years that greatest pianists use Steinway and not a single one complained. And now, people lost the meaning of genius concept and range, use it for every first impressive thing they hear, then as they run out of words, start to blame else, like the piano. What tomorrow, we must built special concert rooms for Yunchan? Special floor for Yunchan? Special recording stuff for Yunchan? What about special ears so you can get that is not the piano who makes the master, but the opposite. And in most cases, what you hear as out of tune, is a simple recording problem, like using a phone or just a bad calibrated microphone, which probably happened here. Besides, the quality of a piano depends on its age and usage frequency. You can have two Steinway along, one in bad shape, another in perfect shape. As the Paris Philharmonic is constantly running out of funds, the last thing they can afford is keeping a piano at best condition. So there may be multiple explanations to why the sound sucks, but certainly not the excellency of Steinway mark.

I am not sure I would miss the first movement. The third movement went well. There was a rare exuberance often lacking in other performances, but the middle movement is best forgotten. Lim played for himself, instilling this slow movement with too much rubato such that the orchestra and conductor couldn't follow him.
