It assumption that growth will continue and not stagnate. The idea that transformers are the way and just scaling compute is still an assumption

no. helmets is not overrated. maybe if you don't do tricks and you cinfident in your riding, you may dont wear one, but still. you never know what can happen

It's just a bad time to be entry level SWE. If there's scholarship or saved up money, at least get a master because your competition is NOT your classmates, it's all the master students from india and china. In order to compete, master degree is going to help a lot. Plus master program will put you in contact with professor who does have industry contacts. Start using that 1.5years to network and survive and maybe by then the market will recover. one thing I consistently hear from SWE, maybe it's a form of self-comfort is the phrase: "oh software is flexible, it's adaptable, I'm a generalist and I can learn and do anything". That maybe have been true 10 years ago, but now we got 10 million guys all saying "I''m a generalist, I can do anything". In the current market, employees are not willing to wait for you to start learning on the job, you gotta come in with some specialty, to distinguish yourself from the 100k other candidates from usa and asia. For example, if you want to work in EDA sector for chip design like cadence synopsys siemens, besides knowing tcl/python/perl you better also know something about circuit design, just enough knowledge to ensure what you code will make sense when actually used by chip designers. You wanna go work in financial district software support, better know something about finance. It's no longer enough just to know enough to code and pass leetcode style interviews and take a bootcamp.
