I know you said you dont use coconut coir, but many isopod breeders mix it with their subtrate because it actually helps drainage so that it isnt retaining too much moisture, which in turn prevents mold. I mix 10% leaf litter, 25% coco coir, and the rest i use a soil mix similar to yours (i use scotts organic), and then i throw in a handful of crumbled leaf litter. Youre definitely right, coco husk/coir on its own isnt a good substrate, but its great to mix.

How do you tell if the shell is too calcified for the gecko to get out and therefore need to fully assist?
@robbysreptilesАй бұрын
Not sure. Best guess would be the sibling tried to hate but drowned in the egg. Then in a day or two if the other isn't moving and eggs were the same size you would have the option to cut it. These days I don't cut any eggs cuz I am not hovering over my eggs at all anymore. Too much going on etc
@BeastBoysBestiesАй бұрын
@robbysreptiles this clutch is mom's first so both eggs were a little odd but grew fantastically. The smaller egg already hatched a fully developed baby, but the large egg has a strange texture and hasn't hatched. It hasn't been long enough to try opening manually, but I wanted to be extra aware since it's mom's first clutch and my first clutch too (so to speak haha).

My gecko had pinworms and it only cost me $15 to get him a liquid treatment at a reptile vet (and a $30 fecal test). It really was no issue at all - so if you only own a few geckos going to the vet is a great option rather than trying to dose medicine yourselves (unless you are a professional).
