Or.... maybe the mixes weren't meant to be played on cheap tinny headphones? They weren't a thing back then and shouldn't be now. Stereo systems are meant to fill rooms, to replicate the sound of having a band in the room with you, where the guitar might be over on the left side of the room and the bass on the right with the singer in the middle and so on. The stereo played on this video sounded great on my system. The answer isn't to mess with and ruin the music, the answer is to listen to it on at least a half decent system.

When I saw this movie as a child in theaters, I cried. I didn't want to see this dark Superman. I went to the movie, to see Superman being Superman. It was like seeing a loved one kill themselves with drugs. I thought it was stupid to see Clark battle Superman. There was no explanation. Just boom, here is Clark. I didn't understand the symbolic nature, but I still think there was much better ways to do it. I think having them split earlier, would have been great. Imagine, Clark sees Superman and realizes he is able to live without him, allowing him to pursue a normal life. It's a natural extension of the themes in Superman 2. Now, he can be two places at once. But them just being two sides of the same coin. Think the Star Trek episode with 2 Kirks. One the more aggressive side, the one more passive. The conflict happening where Superman can't stand how passive, sanctimonious and full of self doubt Clark is, always avoiding confrontation. Clark can't stand the arrogance, his anger, lack of empathy, and how self centered Superman is. So Superman isn't getting drunk, doing criminal behavior or getting rapey but he's not our Superman. The battle taking place, but Clark not possessing all the strength of Superman. Clark gaining the self confidence to stand up to this Superman. With him fighting Superman even though he is almost guaranteed to die. Superman showing empathy towards Clark when he has a chance to kill him. They finally see, they're both Superman and they need each other. It would have had a great story of doing the right thing even though it's tough, and that even Superman needs to control his impulses and do what's right. That even Superman struggles with being Super. I know with better writers than I it could be done much better than what we got. Also, the woman getting grabbed by the computer and turned into a robot was genuinely scary for me as a kid. I was about when I saw it in theaters and she scared me. But so did the Wicked Witch in the Wizard of Oz, and the tunnel scene in Willie Wonka and the chocolate factory. So maybe it was just me. But I loved Richard Pryor and loved the scenes he was in but felt he got too much screen time and Superman didn't get enough. The humor I liked, but even as a kid seeing the Walk/Don't Walk guys fighting was stupid. Even a child knew that's not how those things worked. For all its faults, I would take Superman 3 and 4 over anything the Snyderverse made. I love Henry Cavill but the writers and director never understood or liked Superman. Christopher Reeve gave us the best Superman because he acted like Superman. Despite all the flaws, I enjoy the movie because of him, even if it's a bad movie.

WoW great video !! I thought I was the only one to really like the Lester version and find the Donner cut terrible. But to be honest I’d go even further than you 😄 I’d say there’s a lot that was already wrong or aged badly with the first film and has Donner finished his cut back in the days, I think we might have gotten the same issues. In a way I’d say Lester with his less heroic and more grounded take improves the mood and makes the serious part of Donner footage work better. And yes some of Lester footage like Clark regaining his power are way more dark and effective than Donner and above all some Donner jokes are way worse and cringe than Lester. You were pretty nice with the Lois jumping out of the window bit ; not only it doesn’t really work I find Reeve and even more so Kidder’s acting, terrible, over the top, cartoonish and painful to watch and my god the dialogues. I could go on for hours but just one last thing ; I actually prefer Ken Thorne orchestration in general over Williams 😄

If you made a documentary of the era that Talons is set in you’d expect all of the behaviours you see people doing. You wouldn’t meet someone like Li H’sen Chang so John Bennett is not representing anyone just as Michael Spice’s Weng-Chiang (Magnus Greel) is not representative either. One actor plays the part of a Chinese peasant come magician, one plays the part of a war criminal masquerading as a Chinese Deity. You can choose to be offended if you like or you can enjoy what is for me the greatest Doctor Who story ever.

I liked the donner cut as a companion piece. Its like another superman 2 movie from a parallel universe. Such a treat seeing all those characters you loved years ago doing things you hadn't seen before. Saying that. I still think the Lester cut feels better, better paced and more satisfying overall. Especially the ending. Donners ending with the time travel is lazy and imo meaningless. I let it off in superman 1 because of the emotional state superman was in after Louis's death and his dads warning about interfering in earths history. Its not the kind of thing to use in any ol situation. Example. Damn it, ive burnt my pizza. Ill just rewind time so i can get it out of the oven earlier! Plus its lazy. Supes could solve every crisis with that solution.

Back in the late 90's when I was doing the Doctor Who and Cult TV conventions, a friend of mine told me about these pilots. He gave me a couple of VHS tapes (oh, the horror!) with them on. I watched them... Once and never again, it's just too painful! I still have those cassettes for some reason. Perhaps I kept them in case I needed to give myself a kick in the tits, metaphorically that is! Absolute bloody tripe! Made worse so as Red Dwarf has been one of my favourite shows since the first episode in 1988. I watched it so often I could quote each episode, line by line, for the first six series. Sad? Yes, completely, but that show got me through some really tough times and I'll always be grateful for that. The Yanks ruin everything that's good about our shows, I'm so glad this never took off!

Richard Donner didn’t have a chance to make his movie, the Richard Lester movie was a loosely based on Richard Donner. You can’t blame Donner having a complete movie because Christopher Reeves had already passed away. If you have watched the first Superman and compare it to Superman 3 then you’d know. In Donners cut you’ll not see the stupid scenes that Lester put in which he made it more stupid in the 3rd one.

It was mid 90s, I was a young teenager and we recently had cable television. I began watching BBC Prime to improve my English. I instantly noticed that "video inside, film outside" look from the reruns of Fawlty Towers, Yes Minister and such, but never understood the reason behind it. My guess was, back then TV cameras had to be put on outdoor mode if they were taken outside, and that resulted in the reduction of frames per second. I also thought that had to have something to do with the British weather. Hahahaha.

I understood 2inch Quad gives a better picture than 1inch tape (400 recorded lines vs 300 lines recording from 1inch) , BUT it is extremely limited in editing function, so 1inch was preferred. Most people couldn't tell on their tv in the 80s, but 1inch looks softer than 2inch. Early 2inch PAL colour recordings from the late 60s early 70s can actually look pretty good considering it's all analogue. See Episode one of The Ambassadors of Death for example. Such a shame few other early original PAL recordings survived on 2inch quad.

You didn't even mention one of the main fundamental issues with the Donner Cut timeline. The opening Paris sequence in the theatrical cut makes it feel very much like time has passed since the first movie. That 2-ish years have gone by, and the world has had the opportunity to get somewhat used to the idea that Superman is out there. It's not the new normal anymore. It's just normal now. In the Donner Cut... it's like a day or two later. And yeah, we don't have a hard timeline for part 1. But at the end of the movie, it still felt like it's been a matter of weeks _(MAYBE_ a couple of months) since Superman made his big debut. If this is a couple of days later then Superman's existence should still feel like a very new thing to the world at large. But it just doesn't. Everybody's still kind of behaving like it's a couple of years later. Also, damn Lex and Otis were prosecuted and acclimated to prison life fast! Yeah, I know Superman just drops them off in prison in the previous movie (as ridiculous as that was). But the dialog does tell us that there was a trial, so they apparently did go through the legal process regardless of Superman's attempts to just skip all that shit. They had the trial... for a man who attempted to kill millions of people with government nukes. Then Lex built himself a holographic escape projector. And considering that Clark and Lois have been assigned to go to Niagra Falls _right_ after Lois gets back from California, _ALL_ of this had to have happened in a matter of a few days at best. That is not only insane. It's downright stupid.

The Monster of Peladon is heightened by The Curse of Peladon coz Curse makes the Ice Warriors good guys as a twist, and it makes them being baddies in Monster a twist, which is really fucking neat. Planet of the Daleks is one of the very rare scary classic stories for me. Especially the night time stand against the creatures in the dark. The Sea Devils has the greatest fight scene of all Doctor Who, which in fairness isn't hard. The Time Warrior is naff... agreed. I really would love to see a video of yours about The Mutants. My Doctor Who spreadsheet lists, from left to right... The Doctor's number -useful for sorting the rows how I want Classic -this get ticked if it's a classical Doctor Who episode... Episodes -how many episodes in the serial... only filled in for classic Who Last Played -the date I last watched it /10 -an attempt at rating it out of 10 with increments of 0.5... this is a score that tries not to be too subject to changes in opinion based on my last watch, so each time I watch, I'm only allowed to change this by 1. Episode -Each episode is numbered based on season and place in season... The Rescue is 0.023 (Classic stories are below zero, so 0.02 means Season 2, and the 2 on the end of that denotes its place in the season... Survival is 0.264, Spyfall Part 1 is 12.01, etc. This is an easy way for episodes to be sorted chronologically, which is how I usually have them sorted unless I'm analysing the data. Title -Self explanatory. I rename An Unearthly Child to The Tribe, and The Daleks to The Survivors... also in a separate app I rank every televised story based entirely on my experience watching it in my most recent watch of it, and if an episode gets into the top 10, it permanently gets a number at the end of the title saying how high it reached at its highest ever point. Plays -This is how many times I've chosen to watch something not out of obligation due to a watchthrough. If I start watching a story, I cannot abandon it unless it's very early on, or very late on, so that each watching can count as 1 each. Watchthrough -This is watchings of the story done because of a watchthrough. Tier -In my aforementioned recent ranking based on my most recent watch of an episode (done in a separate app), which tier did it end up in? Tiers are S, A, B, C, D and F. F is defined as a story I overall did not enjoy. It's the smallest of the tiers lol. Boom got put there yesterday. Fuck Boom, it sucks so bad. Tiers -This lists the highest and lowest tiers the story has been in. For example, The Mind Robber has S-F, whereas Timelash has S-A. Ah -In increments of 1, the story is rated between 0 and 10 how scary it is. Ha -In increments of 1, the story is rated between 0 and 10 how funny it is. No -In increments of 1, the story is rated between 0 and 10 how much I hate my most hated part of the episode. Yes -In increments of 1, the story is rated between 0 and 10 how much I love my most loved part of the episode. Cry -This says if I cried and how much I cried. I leave it blank if I didn't make me cry, and then the scale goes something like: nearly, Nearly, NEARLY, wet, Wet, WET, yes (tear has to travel away from eye to achieve yes), Yes, YES. Emo -This is my newest category and I haven't fully worked out what I mean by it, but it's basically about emotional investment... coz some episodes hit me intensely in ways that aren't entirely related to crying, and I want to recognise them. I'm still feeling my way around this tbh, and idk exactly what I mean by it. Maybe it'll evolve into something else. Past Tiers -Every time an episode gets ranked, I list which tier it was in. 73 Yards is ASS, lol. I only recently started doing this and I'm so so glad I came up with this coz it's a fair representation of how I feel about a story over time. Year -Year of broadcast Writers -The writer/s Showrunner -showrunner or classic equivalent. Director -The Director Notes -Random notes on an episode. If an episode ever gets No.1 in the rankings, it gets a note saying 'Has been no.1 ep.' It's also useful for noting where a watchthrough with a friend is at. Blink got an F one time, and my note for that is 'lol F'. If a story became my no.1 classic story, I make a note of that - in my first Classic watchthrough, Timelash became the first no.1 classic story lol. Ghostlight's note is 'Control is a trans icon.' These are the categories on the spreadsheet on my phone. On my PC, I transpose all that data, and also add in the data from the episodes being ranked, and it gives each episode a number based on where in the ranking they are, in addition to recording the highest and lowest they have ever ranked which i can tell by which row they are on. There's a bunch of other non spreadsheet notes I have, and rankings of stuff. I realised that young Lucy enjoyed ranking stuff a bunch, so I figured that she had tapped into autistic joy for it in a way that had since been clouded by age. -I recently made a ranking of every story without regard for the latest watch - attempting to right wrongs like The Mind Robber being listed as an F tier based on my latest watch when I know in my heart it's an S tier. -I numerically calculate the ranking of Seasons and Doctors based on which tier they are in based on my most recent watch. Each tier is assigned a number (S=1, A=2, B=3, C=4, D=5, F=7 coz to be in F is very bad), and an average for each story in a season/era is calculated and then they are ranked that way. -I rank so many things based on my feelings... companions, Doctors and so so much more.
