Back after 16 years. I worked in the bering sea and although our F/v’s are nowhere near the size of some of these ships, I feel nostalgic, watching this, as I have respect for all men working on boats, ships and the pilots who bring them to safety.

1:46 - 2:03 where does this video come from? That footage is completely insane, that wave was completely insane how it toyed with the ship. God, I remember watching this video way back to 2007 and never forgot it. This is the first time rewatching this in like 10 years.

Yeah I've been wondering where that came from ever since this video came out all the way back to 2007, and never found it, that wave toyed with that huge ship like it was a rubber duck, I've never seen anything like it.

Question; How come the ships are not equipped with a line (rope or cable) such as you see helicopters (coast guard / military /Rock climbing)) for the pilot transfer? All it would require is pilot wearing a harness during the transfer. Extremely dangerous with or without harness. I'm very SURPRISED that the safety group that inspects ships (OSHA in United States on land) don't make this the number one priority!?!?

The ladder is the oldest tried and tested method, giving the pilot the biggest amount of control over his own destiny, a harness or lifting devise on board a ship is not under the control of the user, and cannot be trusted like a ladder.
