    Just alil clarification for someone watching - Do "ALL" plant sources contain all essential nutrients - well, mostly & here's why A. Yes, most regular plant based protein sources will have most of the amino acids in varying levels. Eg., rice might have an amino acid more than green pea or vice versa. In short, combined protein sources of rice, soy and green pea will have similar nutritional profile to say milk or meat. B. The thing they are talking about protein quality is called bio-availability & frankly it applies to all. Thus have a balanced and mixed diet as per your requirement (and preferably under medical supervision). Also like bio-availability, bio-compactibility matters as well coz some don't digest some foods like others or have allergies. So they will have to compensate via vitamin or supplements.

    OMG! You both need to read “Becoming Vegan” by Brenda Davis RD before you try to ever speak on plant based diets.

    Please don’t say the “heme form is better”. Your body doesn’t regulate the uptake of hemebased iron. And can lead to hemochromatosis. It is so easy to mix Vit c containing vegetables with spinach, butter leaf lettuce, kale, etc which contains an excellent source of iron. I was anemic when I consumed chicken and fish. But now I am not. I get my iron from my greens! No supplements. There is a lot of biases lurking within this conversation.

    Please understand there is a difference between Vegan and Plant Based. Vegan is an ethical choice. Plant based is a health choice. You also failed to mention WHOLE FOODS PLANT BASED as a category.

    Let us be honest and real. B12 is not found in animals it is fed to animals in copious amounts (uneducated). Terrible arguement. My B12 levels are better today than when I consumed flesh. I have better absorption now that animal fats are not plugging cells. Heme iron? Please a processed plant based burger is another terrible comparison? Give up the burger! Sorry, this is nowheres near accurate! It is about learning how to eat and when you learned how to eat flesh for a long time it is a change that takes time, there is a learning curve. My Iron levels, B12, Omega 3's, protein levels are all fine. Sorry, but your guest is severely lacking in education. Way off base. Sad.. and inexperienced. I will put my blood against any flesh consumer. I have much better absorption due to open cells.

    Great info, Docs. Prayers for all the caregivers & providers out there. As a "baby boomer" I moved home to help with my Dad for 5 years. He spent the last year of his life in a memory care facility. My generation needs to be ready and educate themselves on this critical issue for so many families. Keep up the good work!

    While animal protein is a great source, some individuals may have dietary restrictions or may be looking to incorporate more protein in addition to animal protein. Including variety in our diet ensures we receive a broader range of nutrients.

    You are right about opioids. I was prescribed Licinipril and I could not sleep all night, that I had to take Melatonin and even other sleeping pills and I finally fell asleep. Also, it reduced the pain by only about 50% and I was constipated the next day!!!

    Interesting, I continue to see magnesium glycinate as being the most absorbable magnesium. The research I've done indicates that L-threonate is not easily absorbed and alot of it is urinated out, that's why you have to take so much of it. So I'm confused in that regards as well as when should you take magnesium L- threonate? I must have missed it , before bed or during the day, or does it matter because it's stored in tissues?

  • @LifeExtensionWellness
    @LifeExtensionWellnessАй бұрын

    Great questions! Different forms of magnesium have unique benefits. Magnesium L-Threonate is intended to promote brain health due to its unique structure and can be used at any time. For those seeking to support overall magnesium levels in the body, a higher potency is typically suggested. Magnesium L-Threonate is proposed to move through GLUT receptors along the blood-brain barrier, with L-Threonate facilitating the transport of magnesium into the brain. Several studies have demonstrated that magnesium L-Threonate aids in maintaining cognitive function and memory due to this enhanced transportation of magnesium into the brain (DOI: 10.3233/JAD-150538). These distinctive properties enable magnesium L-Threonate to more effectively cross the blood-brain barrier compared to other magnesium forms.

    How about overall health scoring? Milk would fail. Carcinogenic (as determined by the world health organization )meats that might score high in protein should fail in overall health scoring, for another example. I follow Dr. Michael Gregor’s Daily Dozen recommendations. This includes three servings of beans and blueberries, for example. There’s plenty of new research coming out that shows how to eat to prevent cognitive decline. This includes cutting out dairy, high carbs, sugar, and processed foods.

    Stating that Spermidine has the same effects as calorie restriction is simplistically ignorant. Because it may to a small degree activate some of the same genes as calorie restriction does not make its effects the same as calorie restriction. I take spermidine, but not as a replacement for calorie restriction
