    The Idaho water resources commissioner curtailed water rights on 500,000 of farm land. Oregon is curtailing commercial small market gardens yet they allow irrigation of golf courses.

    That's because Oregon has become dramatically anti-Agriculture. That includes local governments here in Southern Oregon.

    I grew up there and live just south of border in Crescent City, Ca. Brookings, Oregon is right over border on coast and 30 min north is Gold Beach. It’s a beautiful area, fishing towns and beautiful mountains, rivers, and coastline. Come visit sometime.

    The Josephine Ophiolite is in that region and makes it particularly special. And the serpentine rocks are oh so beautiful. It is essentially where the mantle (oceanic crust) was uplifted to the surface. This brought up a lot of heavier elements to the surface that are toxic to life. It’s why the area has so little biomass but so much biodiversity. It’s tough for life to survive and life that does survive has to really specialize to make it work. Such a special area and I hope it can stay protected. Read recently that a Canadian mining company got rights to mine part of 8 dollar mountain, lets hope that doesn’t come to fruition.

    10:05 Just food for thought, As a graffiti artist of 15+ years and working and running with many crews, groups, clubs and parties who are NOT gang related and avoid that life style. Please do not put us as a whole down because your biased against this art form. We dont put you down, we put art up with or without alot of peoples permission and most of it in todays world is VERY questionable if its even “art” let alone actual vandalism at best. Rule of thumb by writers such as me is if your going to cover someone, you better be damn well ready to accept the risk and do better while also if it being a memorable or respectable piece of art gets the props on the side by the covering artist. All this shitty vandalism in portland is a example of what its becoming. Alot of writers i know have stopped because the cost of living and supporting there families and moving in together to survive has killed there time and energy and is wasted on working for less than worth living for. So much graffiti now days is TRASH. No respect what so ever but as a die hard writer till the day i die, i know my opinion is my own and nobody elses but i also know for sure that most actual writers i do and have known where forced to retire with inflation. Everyone doing vandalism and destruction of property that doesnt deserve to be ruined or disrespected are druggies all messed up or homeless nut jobs who hate the world. Again! Not all graffiti is GANG RELATED. Just because someone wrote gang shit can also mean its edgy kids being stupid.

    Have lived in Medford since 2009 on the East side and agree with you're depiction of the area. On the negative side, I would add that the poorly located airport / planes landing + flying overhead greatly affect the livability of some sections of Medford. On the positive side - traffic (while getting heavier) is still pretty darn good / easy to get to all parts of Southern Oregon.

    Gold hill has a buried train to keep the river apart. I got stuck on it diving off the old train bridge. It's close to medford. Some good bear jerkey there. Also only had 1 police officer for years White City use to be a military base. Camp white. VA is out there. White City is okay I guess Wolf creek is close kinda. Meth lab got shut down there.

    We lived in Williams for two years and got out. Rough area with all the illegal pot grown and many people that don’t care in the area mattresses and furniture just dumped along side the highway. Many unsafe drivers, do to no police presence in the area. No shopping in town. Only a high priced tiny grocery store. Wi fi reception is terrible in the area. With few options. Roads are not maintained well. Graffiti on the bridges. It’s depressing to live there.

    I lived on 3 acres in the Siskiyou foothills. Many of my neighbors lost their well water when a development went in higher up in the mountains. Our well was deep but the creek dried up. I think there needs to be some kind of management.

    Emigrant lake fills from upper lakes but the government controls the water. They are making it almost impossible for homesteaders or small market farmers to get those permits you speak of. But you didn’t address any of that.

  • @BuyingSouthernOregon
    @BuyingSouthernOregon3 күн бұрын

    I believe I did say the government controls the water and it was difficult to get new water rights. Fortunately, lots of the properties that are suitable for larger agriculture projects and use already have water rights associated with them so there is no need to go get what you already have.

    Most of the state is country and farms. People who have land n big families tend to vote Red. Left is destroying the family structure n weakening the country. City ppl are more likely to fall into that category

    My first 30 years were in Grants Pass/Southern Oregon and the next 30 in the Seattle area, then became a global guy. I count my blessings to have grown up in Southern Oregon, but when I return now to visit family I'm a bit disappointed. There's incredible natural beauty, but as you mentioned local support for basic municipal services has clearly reduced safety and general quality of life for most. That said, most anywhere you choose to live has benefits and drawbacks. The subjective question we all need to ask is, "Are the positive attributes so good that I can tolerate the downsides?"

    Um, Medford does get earthquakes, somewhat regularly. Nothing incredible, usually no higher than a 4, which is basically a free hula lesson. But Medford has had two 6.0 since 1900 so it’s not unheard of and can be expected again despite the infrequency (no, I’m not predicting one soon). I know this because I am an emergency manager for a federal agency with offices in Medford. It’s a fact of life for all of the west side of the Cascades to the coast from northern Cali to Vancouver BC, live with it or don’t move here.

  • @BuyingSouthernOregon
    @BuyingSouthernOregon4 күн бұрын

    I've lived here 30+ years and felt one very minor earthquake in that time. I guess anything could happen, but if someone is worried about an earthquake, I think this is a pretty safe place to be. Two over 6.0 in 124 years isn't very frequent in my mind...

    People can get their knickers in a twist, but your assessment is spot on. What these naysayers aren't taking into consideration is you're in real estate. Most agents don't warn people about this kind of thing. I've lived in Southern Oregon since 1976. West Medford and White City are crime hubs. Williams and Wolf Creek and a few other places are chock full of hippies and pot farms. Sam's Valley is dry and has one store. There are beautiful places here but there's places i wouldn't buy property.
