    I've got a P71 Crown Vic and an all aluminum 5.3 LM4 that are just begging to become one... You might have just inspired me to break out the mig welder. I would really like to see some pointers on the engine management side, the last motor swap I did was carbureted. Keep wrenching bro

    Thank you brother! It needs to be done! That's a lot of room under a p71engine bay! I have Holley Terminator for engine management and the best in my opinion and would highly recommend, although it might be a little pricey but it saves so many headaches. I've had success with using a stock ecu and harness but the tuning can be a bit finnicky unless you plan on leaving it stock.

    Old work trucks from the 1940s and 50s have patina. A Mach 1 Mustang needs bodywork and a paint job. Buy an Astro EuroPro paint gun for $100 and some Restoration Shop paint or the equivalent, do some sanding and filling, and make that gem sparkle again.

  • @jeffdickson125
    @jeffdickson1253 ай бұрын

    For sure. That rust is going to keep going and going unfortunately. This one def not a good candidate to preserve the current finish. Nice work though regardless

    I would say it's got 'character' over 'patina' but patina just sounds cooler.😅 A slick paintjob would be awesome!!...but with some issues, biggest being the roofline along the windshield is off from sides to side. The car would need a lot more than just sanding and body work to be up to par for me to justify doing all that. I do have a different car I'm looking to paint so I appreciate the recommendation for the paint gun :)

    Though I agree with the need to strip and paint this car, there is a lot that needs to be done. The front fenders and hood need replacement. They have been damaged by collision and the previous owner applied a lot of Bondo. They are beyond repair. The hood is paper thin from the rust from the bottom side up. Needs replacement. The drivers door is OK, no rust. The passenger door is a victim of a bucket full of Bondo hiding a previous collision. Needs replacement. The quarter panels are OK, but the driver side has interior rust (treated with POR15) that forms a lot of pin holes to the exterior. Needs replacement. The passenger side had a patch welded in (see previous videos) and could be salvaged. The biggest issue is the roof was replaced at some point and was done incorrectly. The A pillars are twisted, the C pillars are crumpled, and the roof is put on crooked. Needs to be cut off, replace the pillars and re-attach the roof straight and aligned correctly. Given the massive amount of body work needed to get the car in decent shape for paint, it is best to leave it as is for now and enjoy the ride. As for continued rust, most of the rust for all the inner structures has been removed and replaced with new metal. The floor pans, cowl, aprons, core support, trunk pan, frame rails, and tail panel have all been cut away and replaced. Frame connectors added and the full roll cage make the structure of this car solid. At some future time, the above body work could be done knowing the structure of the car is still rust free and solid. This 'Q' code Mustang has the numbers matching engine (including the carb and air cleaner) and transmission in storage so nothing is lost in making this car as it is now. Everything on this car can be restored if the market value deemed 'Q' code Mustangs as high 6 or low 7 figure cars.

    @@LesKlarsTrainProject Human effort has been wasted on less consequential things. The car could be sh!tcanned at some point when it's too far gone, or someone could start doing repairs. Let's just agree this isn't an example of patina. It's a driver, and I like that body style even if it isn't as popular with fans of other Mustang years.

    To all Ford purist and LS haters, let me give you more context of what you are watching: I bought this car in 2005 for next to nothing. The car had been out of service since 1985 when the 351C motor seized. The owner then parked it in the weeds and it sat until I found it. This is not a gem in the rough, this is just an abandon car that was abused badly and left to rot. When I got the car home I pulled the motor and transmission to find out what happened to the motor. The motor dropped a valve head (something these 351C are known to do) hit the piston, cracked the head, and stopped the motor. The cracked head leaked water into the cylinder and this cylinder is gone. The block may be salvageable if sleeved? The head is toast and the other head was not much better. That means the engine requires a lot of machining and new heads (as well as everything else for a proper rebuild). The transmission (C6) may be OK but the fluid was quite burnt and probably needs a rebuild. As for the body, you can see in the videos that the car was badly rusted, floor pans, cowl, rear seat area, and some of the front firewall. In addition, when the interior was pulled it became very evident that this car was in a serious accident prior. The drivers fender appears to be a replacement but the passenger is probably original with a lot of bondo. The drivers door appears to be replacement with the passenger door being original with over a 1/4" of bondo in some areas! The worst part is the roof was replaced (evidence seen at the 'C' pillar seams) and not very well. The 'A' pillars are twisted and not angled correctly. The rear seat divider was crumbled and the driver's side 'C" pillar appears to be "hammered" out. The firewall has many kinks from a serious twist. I am pretty sure the car has rolled over and was repaired prior to the engine failure. The front urethane bumper is missing as well as the grille and some of the grille supports. The front radiator support rusted and the front aprons also appeared to be crumbled and straightened with a hammer. The brake system rusted and gone. Suspension well worn. Interior trashed, mice eaten, and water damaged. Front glass broken (hoping a new windshield will fit the crooked opening enough to seal) and doors barely able to open. Klar's fabrication has done a tremendous job putting the basics of the car back together and at least making sure the wheels track straight. The frame connectors and roll cage were added to hold this car together and meet racing requirements. I should not have bought this car, but I did and just let it sit in my weeds because the cost to restore was far greater than the market value (even in today's pricing). So you haters that find this an "abomination", realize that this car was destined for compactor, rust heaven, or parted out and cut apart. I gave this car to my son so he could build a race car. He already built a nice LS-powered chevy truck with a big turbo and that thing ran fast. So why not put that combo into a lighter car? And do not even mention the Coyote engine, show me one for less than $600 and drops in and runs. This fabrication is expanding his welding skills, body skills, electrical skills, engineering swaps, tuning skills, racing related requirements, and saving a cool car. The exterior is being left alone to preserve the Mach 1 aesthetics. The exterior does have rust, patina, and bondo but why bother since it only needs to go fast down the drag strip. End of the day, this is a hobby and he is enjoying it. Watch and enjoy the adventure and realize, though not purely a Ford, that was saved!

    Sorry guys, you did this wrong. The bolt holds the springs together including the bottom flat. The bolt you had stick out from the rear axle was only rusted in a locating pocket. The pin on the spacer was supposed to go into this pocket and the head of the bolt still attached to the leaf spring would drop into the pocket at the top of the spacer. Then you simply put the new u-bolts on. Had you left the springs bolted together you would not have had to realign them when they moved. Glad it worked out ok.
