Your thoughtful, considered and informative reviews are a joy to watch, as is your relaxed presentation. As to products I would like to see reviewed; perhaps electrostatic speakers as they seem to almost disappear and I would like to know what you think about the Exposure XM CD player (I haven't been a fan of that particular laser unit in other players but somehow, it seems like the XM CD may be a good option at that price). CD players in any case. Again, a great channel.

Ugh down the speaker rabbit hole I go! However i think it's come down to these or the 5020i. My chain is pretty OK with a SMSL D1se DAC, Burson Soloist GT X as pre-amp (insane headphone amp) and soon to arrive Fosi V3 Mono blocks (two PSU version), they push around 160w at 6Ω. So they are the weakest link in the chain, but I think they'll do just fine for now.

There are better/cheaper options out there. I did a side by side comparison using various test tracks, and out of the box the only differences I noticed between the M20 and my smaller edifiers S350DB are the slightly better stereo separation and lack of low end on the M20. The Edifiers also have more inputs (the 3.5mm input doesn't disable the AUX input like on the M20). The knobs on the S350DB also feel a lot more sturdy and durable than the three buttons on the M20. The M20 might sound better with a subwoofer, but then you are looking at spending 2X more.

To use with a videoprojector including a video streamer (so no need of a blu-ray), would the optical cable be as good as the earc connexion with an eversolo dmp8 ? As I’d love to choose the auralic vega s1 as a source for my primaluna evo300 and my yamaha soavo 1 speakers, instead of the eversolo. Could you give me some advice ? Thanks,

I was literally stepping into a demo room with money in hand to buy a beautiful piece of art - Yamaha’s R-N2000 amp. I left shop flabbergasted and utterly disappointed with the sound quality. Paired with another “poster child” KEF R3 Meta the R-N2000 emitted the weirdest, mumbling and annoying sound I’ve ever heard. “Natural”? What a joke. Mark Knopfler would have committed suicide if he’d listened to his music through this kit. With all due respect to bloggers who indeed, take lots of time and effort to comment on Hi-Fi kit, I’d only say one banal thing: never tryst anything and try what you liked in KZread before buying. By the way, I’m not deaf, and on the same test Hegel paired with reference PMC monitors sounded so much better. Didn’t make up my mind still, the shock of saying farewell to a dream kit was too heavy.

New speakers out perform vintage in every way, except perhaps nostalgia. True budget remains a series of severe compromises, but even thete really good performance can be had for very little money. Spend an entry level amount, say $1,000 - $1,800 and there’s simply no competition with vintage. That said nostalgia is about the emotion of old memories and the desire to touchstone with those by gone era. The 50+ year old speakers of my youth don’t hold a candle to what’s in another room, but those sweet memories are worth a spin and so was well worth seeking them out. Cheers!

For some time I used my venerable Toshiba SD-100e, as a CD transport, but sadly after 24 years, it has started to show its age, so last year, I bought the Arcam CDS50, which is both a CD player and streamer. Sound wise the CDS50, sounds very neutral, similar to my Topping DX3 Pro+. Currently, I mainly use it as a transport to my Roksan K3 amp. Of course, the party piece of the CDS50, is its ability to stream, but sadly, Arcams Musiclife app, has far too many issues to be a practical solution, though you can (and I do), use mconnect instead, which works much better, but does not work when the device used goes into sleep mode which is a real pain. As a CD player the CDs50 is much better, than a streamer, but the convenience of a streamer means I mainly use it the streamer function which is instead, which is not ideal. It is getting to the point where I am considering getting Wiim, or maybe another Bluesound node, just because they work, but at the moment I am holding off.

Hello Mr British Audiophile, hope you're doing great. I just purchased, thanks to your recommendation, the Choco sound Emei, and i really love it. Now im looking for a DAC because i don't have any. I think the type of warm sound of the Choco, is what I'm looking for in my audio journey. Having said that, maybe i want a little tiny bit more detail, or a little tiny bit more speed from it. But again, im afraid to lose that warm and musical cosy sound. Can you please aid me? The Ares 12 is what got my attention, but i fear it is going to be too much. Or The Topping is going to balance things out? Sorry for the long message 😊 By the way my speakers are Q Acoustics Concept 300.

I appreciated your detailed comparison of the 3 speakers. I have a pair of the 6G MA Silver 300s and my friend got a pair of the 6G Sliver 300s on my recommendation. My impressions are that MA's Silver series of speakers are a great value for people that expect to upgrade their amplification because the speakers seem highly revealing of the qualities of their upstream amplification. My friend's upgrade from Naim amplification to a Modwright preamp and Pass Class-A power amp brought the sound quality from his Silver 500 speakers to another level. As you mentioned, the downside of this is that the speakers are also less forgiving of amplifiers that lack warmth. Also, another vote for doing a review on Monitor Audio's Gold and Platinum series speakers. As resolving as the Silver series of MA speakers may seem to be, I've heard the MA Gold 200 speakers and they are one step up in terms of overall clarity and resolution.

Possible future speaker reviews? Audiovector would be interesting. Their R1 would be an interesting follow-up to your Kerr Acoustics/ Alta Audio reciews, while their recently introduced QR1 SE sits somewhere, price- wise, between the three models you have here and the Quad Revela you reviewed recently. One other manufacturer that I would love to see you review is Zu Audio. I do have quite a specific reason for this - I am trying to find a suitably efficient / sensitive speaker to partner my 10w per channel Pure Sound A10 and Zu have a couple of speakers, the DWX and DW6, that look like a good fit at an appropriate price for an amp that costs around £700 or so.

Hi Tarun, great review and comparison. I had been using my Eversolo DMP-A6 as a streamer/DAC since I bouth it near a year ago, and it's performance was really nice to me. Last week I received my new Denafrips Ares 12th-1 and start to using the DMP-A6 only as a streamer transport and SSD player, connected by USB to the Ares 12th-1. I couldn't be happier with this addition to my system. No! I won't do it! The lowest note on a string bass is 41.2 Hz. I absolutely am opposed to a sub. Why? Because I looked, found, and purchased speakers that complete the mission the way they are supposed to! It seems ludicrous to me to seek out a good set of speakers that right out of the gate have deficiencies. My Tannoy tower speakers are designed to fulfill that mission and their frequency response is more than adequate for the lowest notes of both classical and rock music recordings. I loved you "daft" digression and always enjoy your videos.

The Hestia will give me a baseline for all the tube and capacitor rolling possibilities available🎶((😅))🎶 I had to switch the amp to higher sensitivity input and disable the automatic gain limits in BS Node2i to drive 2.2 LRS/RELs to satisfying levels. Initial impressions are of a dense warm, full bodied, transparent presentation full of lively dynamics and with very expressive timing. Emotionally engaging ! Solid imaging and decent depth: Had some trepidation, but NOT clinical in this setup - thanks for asking.
