@OneFlyingLap my bad on the details in the description missing however it was nearly 3 years ago I posted it so forgive me , yes the footage was obviously passed to the authorities, he couldn't stay because his vehicle was blocking the road and couldn't have helped in any way due to so many already assisting. Always weird how people try to criticise rather ask if the footage was donated. This footage was the main evidence from what I gather. Oh and I haven't like my own comment so please stop looking to belittle me because that's just sad

When the cyclist crossed the road there was no car approaching because the traffic lights were red. He had plenty of time if it had not been for the BMW speeding through the red light, which he did not expect. So it is 100% the BMWs fault.
By crossing the road the cyclist ignored a red light, so no the BMW driver isn’t 100% to blame at all. The cyclist will have had no idea wither the lights the BMW came through were on red or not. Or do you think the rules should only apply to drivers of motor vehicles?

My cousin's husband was killed by a drink driver with no insurance, who was already banned from driving, and was speeding on the wrong side of the road. The sentence was a further ban and a fine - no one could believe it.
If he was hit by a cyclist they would be in jail 🙄

What I find shocking are the cars at the front nearest the accident just drive off to the right. Cyclists could have needed cpr or at the very least they could have phoned an ambulance 🚑

I have watched this. The cyclist crossed a crossing when he was not clear to do so. The lights were green for the car, the cyclists should not be crossing. Sadly they cross lights and railway crossings all the time. The next part of this is, the water spray can make a car look like it is going faster than it is. I am not sure he crossed a red light. I think the odds are he did. The upshot being is, the cyclist if he had not crossed a crossing he was not clear to do so he would not have been knocked off his bike.

Well you should apply for a role as a road safety operator, get these dangerous cyclists off our roads because they cross the road so dangerously . Ignore the fact the bmw car speeding ( yes it was proven, camera vehicle was hgv using tachograph which records speed and it can also be calculated from fixed points on the video) and running red lights , ( Amber also means stop incase you weren't aware ) that's why the bmw driver was delt with heavily in court. @@DannyDashcam What did he get then ?. Or are you just prattling. I have a PCV so I know what a tachograph does, it will not record the speed of the BMW. This technique is called camera matching and reverse projection to calculate speed, it is not an exact science. Amber usually means stop, unless it's unsafe to do so. If you're too close to the line at the time the light turns amber, you may be committed, and braking sharply could lead to an accident. Technically it's legal to go through an amber light, but ideally you shouldn't do this unless you have to. You are totally full of it. Social media tripe at its sad peak.

The UK needs to seriously take a look at its sentencing guidelines regarding traffic incidents. Our legal system is a joke worldwide but especially when it comes to anything vehicle related. You can kill a whole family on the road and be out in a few years. It's an utter joke. The UK will eventually be full of people enacting their own vigilante justice because our system is not fit for purpose anymore.

Just run it by me why a cyclists is on his bike at a pedestrian crossing? I thought you had to dismount if you were on a pavement.
It's possible it was a Toucan crossing which cyclists can use, hard to tell from the video. The pavement on the opposite side is shared pedestrian and cyclist, so I'd imagine that is the case.
Many crossings in the UK are "Toucan crossings", meaning people can cycle across them. I don't know why that's relevant here though considering he's the victim of this crash.....

As far as I can see, he jumped the first red light but had the lights with him where the accident took place. You can try to make out it was his fault but that wasn't his fault. If you go through an orange light you haven't broken the law.

My point was that the cyclist entered the road when the crossing lights were red . Not making excuses for the car driver however if the cyclist had abided by the law as well he wouldnt have been in the road to be hit .

@@bikeman123 No. The BMW went through an amber light at speed just when it was turning red, there's no way the crossing light would turn green that quickly, they have a safety margin built in the timing. He saw that the red car had stopped and wrongly assumed it was safe to cross.

Clearly the lights are on Amber when the BMW brakes they are then red, plus i would question their speed . For anyone who does not know this stretch of road the postman (cyclist) is crossing the road to the centre to cross the A580 . There are two sets of lights , BMW at fault look at 1:10 light is amber plus the intention of the BMW was to undertake the red car that was stationary at the first set of lights which was amber then red as they went through.

Both f’d up here IMO. Driver ran the first red light, rider jumped on what I can assume is a “do not cross” as the traffic light was green.
Looking at this in slow motion and with the help of Google Earth, we can see that the lights went from green to amber when the BMW driver was 380ft (117m) from the intersection. At the speed limit, and even in the wet they could've safely stopped (as required by the Highway Code). BMW driver just f'ed up big time.
We dont know the BMW was speeding. HGV looks to be heavy as he pulls onto the dual carriageway. We see a 40mph linit sign. The BMW went through his lights legitimately as they were changing to amber, he was committed and would have been dangerous to stop at that point. The pedestrian crossing was showing a green light. The cyclist rode out onto oncoming traffic, ignoring his red light. Fairly straight forward.
What's straight forwards is the camera vehicles tachograph which records the speed, it was doing the limit and the cars speed was calculated from various fixed points on the video and the time taken to travel them. He was speeding end of story , he also got the book.thrown at him . That's what's pretty straight forward

Misleading title, the BMW went through a red light then the cyclist went through their red light and got hit. When the BMW hit the cyclist, the BMW was actually travelling through a GREEN set of signals, whilst the cyclist was travelling through RED.

Hmm, the title is rather misleading, while the driver ran an earlier red light, that's not where the collision occurred, and indeed the collision occurred at an entirely separate set of lights that were fully GREEN for the vehicle.
So you are supporting the red light runner as well. If he had stopped at the red light this would never have happened.
