Yes I now only go through them once for edge pieces, and put together as much as I can from that. Then I start the sorting and by the time I'm done I have all the edge pieces I missed. I'm always amazed at how many I miss!

Thanks for the advice Yesterday I just happened to see two unopened jigsaws in one of the local charity shops, but thought nothing of it so left them. Then, last night after taking my wife to work I was watching KZread and for seemingly no reason there was a video about the jigsaw world championships, which I watched and seemed hooked on. I then watched a couple more, then your three videos on the subject. I'm thinking, at 65 they could maybe be useful for keeping the brain functioning, so today I went out and bought the two I saw yesterday and two other ones. I'll try the first one shortly .. it's only 500 pieces but I guess, you have to start somewhere. Maybe I can try a 24,000 piece puzzle when I get more experienced ... and find the space for it too. Regards from Whitley Bay, UK

By all means start with an easy one. As with crosswords, the easier ones train your mind, so that you can gradually work your way up. I'm doing 2000 piece puzzles now, which take me about 3 weeks to complete. I don't work on it every day. But having learned how to orient the pieces, I don't get frustrated, knowing things will come together in the end. Happy puzzling!

Where are you based? Ravensburger puzzles in Europe (where their base is) is the definition of a ribbon cut. That matching cut you describe. The oddly shape pieces, you describe, are common in the US. In brands like Sunsout, cobble Hill, and sometimes eurographics. You can tell what it is most of the brand. Ravensberger puzzles are my favorite. I’ve put at least 10 one thousand piece puzzles together and I feel the pieces fit together the best of any brand. I’ve never had any that had unusual shaped pieces like you mentioned in your part one video. I use 3 TV trays covered with white poster board for separating the pieces by color and put the puzzle together on a card table (just the right size for a thousand piece puzzle). The pieces of this brand fit together perfectly, so sometimes I hold them up to the light and if no light shows through, I am sure I’ve made a correct match. I agree with you that lighting is critical. When I’m finished with the puzzle, I like to display it. I don’t use glue to hold it together. My husband came up with a great idea. When the puzzle is done, we take another card table and place it on top of the completed puzzle (with the legs open). We then hold the 2 tables together and flip them over. The puzzle is now on the second table with the backside showing. He then uses duct tape and covers the entire back of the puzzle with it. When done, you can flip it back over (without using the second table) and it is ready to hang. I have puzzles that have been duct taped together like this for many years with no problems. I have 18 puzzles hanging in my family room and they bring back great memories (like who got them for me, where I got them, etc.).

Yes, Ravensburg puzzles do snap together nicely. I recently got a Springbok puzzle that was very poor quality which surprised me. They're usually good. Springbok has very irregularly shaped pieces. Nice idea for the framing process! I just wreck mine and start a new one :-).
