What circumstances of symbiosis occur in aquatic environments? how do the chemical compounds found within plants that they excrete through their root systems effect the micro biome of your fish tank? etc etc ......If you have opportunity bloody use it you stupid fool.lol....truth is always subjective, what you may see others maybe totally blind to...

    Here’s tips important instruction to water the Venus Flytrap is to use only distilled or spring water. Tap or bottled water often has high levels of dissolved minerals that can burn the plant's roots. A good way to water this plant is using the bottom water technique. Let the pot sit in a tray filled with water up to maximum an inch of depth. This will ensure that the soil conditions are moist without overwatering the plant. Soil The soil needs to be kept moist and more acidic than the usual for houseplants. Hence, we recommend using damp sphagnum moss that helps to retain moisture as well the soil pH levels. Venus Flytrap thrives in swamp-like poor drainage conditions. Light For the best growth place your Venus Flytrap plant in a location that has full sun exposure ideally for 6 hours or more. But if that is not possible, they’re also tolerant to partial shade. Fertilizer They’re naturally grown in nutrient-poor soil and hence adding any fertilizer can harm the plant. Heat and Humidity The areas native to Venus Flytrap commonly see temperatures above 90°F during summer and hence they are very tolerant of heat. If you live in areas where the temperature in day goes higher in the summer, then use topwater technique to cool down the roots. Be careful to water the flytraps with cool distilled water to moderate the soil conditions and your plant will flourish! Venus Flytraps love high humidity making terrarium a preferred home for them.

    Love your videos and collection man! I’m curious if you have any suggestions on miniature orchids that do well in intermediate to warm? Im setting up a similar grow space that’s a converted reptile enclosure. It holds humidity well except since it’s indoors I don’t get that night time drop. I’ve been looking more into stelis. I’ve had luck with certain bulbos. I’ve even grown one in my day geckos enclosure that rarely drops below 70 and it’s exposed to 80s constantly. Keep up the videos! I love your taste in plants

  • @mokong4427
    @mokong44274 ай бұрын

    Appreciate your feedback and the encouragement. In the 2 years that I’ve started using grow tents, I consider my set up as intermediate to warm. No significant night time drop in temp that is required by some neps and orchids. Bulbo definitely doing well for me and now I find that if they grow a certain mass, they will bloom consistently. I find restrepias do well in my setup, but I place them in the lower part of my tent, where is is more humid and temps in the 70-77F range. From stelis, the argentata amd adriannae do well, but I have one that is struggling and I believe requires the 10 degree night time drop. My Aerangis also all had bloomed for me and are in the top part of the tent which is warmer. Some pleurothallis but I chose the easy grower, intermediate/warm growers.

  • @mokong4427

    I found when full it can last 3 weeks, even then there is still water barely above the filter. So the controller is the seconds timer, I set it up during the day to run once per hour for 6 seconds. Then at night 0 seconds, there is no option to turn it off or something. The mistking is nice because you can set when the day starts and when the night starts. Since it is winter, I only have the day last around 10hrs. There are 3 controllers that mistking sells. If your going to get one, just make sure you choose the one that works for your setup.

    you realise its way harder to heat water than air plus its your water that heat air....so its a very non efficient way to heat your tent, the good thing is as you said, it keep and add humidity... with a simple 150w infrared heat lamp, i get mine at 93f, but be carefull not to burn them if lamp is too close and it burn humidity as a bad side, i counter it with humidifier and the bulb is only 20$cad and you can localise the heat

  • @motatwo

    yeah, keep your air tight or it cool down the tent and you lose humidity and then the room is too humid...lol! keep your all in, put the fan so it move the air close to the substrate to prevent mold but keep all that heat and himidity in!!! i even picked forest moss that i putted around my pots so it look more natural and help keep humidity up, i even put extra drosera capensis seeds that i have in the moss, it look like it grow well even tough it must be full of minerals...lol but i dont care for those capensis, i was sure it wouldnt grow, but it did!

    Good point. I ran this tent without plants for a month. It does warm up the tent gradually. When I was in the testing phase I found several factors that worked quite well in my situation. First the tent is small, so heating it up won’t take too long. Next, the 5 gallon tank is heated by a 100w aquarium heater that I used for my 40 breeder. So heating a 5 gallon did not take long. The light I bought from amazon produced a lot of heat, from the actual reviews from Amazon. And it does heat up the air that I opened the vent on top a little bit and even moved the fans to get better circulation. I did get molds on the bical pitchers and I was told in forums that it is due to the nectar that the pitchers produce. Not a big deal as long as it does not affect the plant. As for the humidity escaping into the room, so far I don’t find that an issue. The infra red light definitely is a good suggestion and will keep it in mind if ever I decide to get a bigger tent, cause I don’t think this method will work on a bigger tent.depending on what happens this winter, I might keep this setup permanent, our Texas summers are so harsh.

  • @mokong4427
    @mokong44278 ай бұрын

    As for temperatures go, I targeted 85f and find to hot in a small space. So I dialed it down to 80F and so far I get the right humidity of around 75-80%. The bicals are still getting newer pitchers. So far so good.

  • @motatwo
    @motatwo8 ай бұрын

    you need to get an infra red light or a heating mat, im sure after a year, you saw that those condition were terrible for bical...it really need humidity and heat! i grow mine with a infra red light at around 33 at day and too low at night as it is in the same tent as my hamata that need a drop at night, i only drop it to 20 at night, both are healty but not strong, i ordered a 8x8 tent for my highland-intermediate that ill keep at 28 day 15 night and ill put my small tent inside of the big one for my lowlands that ill keep at 33 day and 25 at night, but with heaters and the heat this tent lost will heat the other tent, then all of them will be very happy! had some issue at first with bical, was too cold, then i added the infrared lamp, now it was hot enough, but light burned humidity around the plant so i had to add an humidifier now he is good, but dont like the drop at night that is too low for it... my hamata is at 28 day and dont drop enough at night but a 8 drop is not that bad, so its healty but dont thrive, cant wait to receive the tent! then it will thrive!

  • @mokong4427
    @mokong44278 ай бұрын

    I did a video where I placed it outdoors as a last resort. And finally grew new pitchers. Under our patio roof but temps went up to 110F and humidity went down as low as 30%. But still did well. Then did another video where I kept indoors because it is getting colder. I’m using a smaller grow tent with a 5 gallon tank with a heater which I learned from a forum. With the led light temps were consistent 80F and because of the evaporation humidity at around 70-80%. Bicals getting newer pitchers. So I’m glad that I found a way since I was about to give up. I will keep your suggestion about infrared light in mind. That is another method I might use in a bigger tent, because the evaporative heating method only works for smaller areas. Thanks for the suggestion. Learning something new everyday

    Mine is in my mail! How did you acclimate it?

    For a year, I kept it in my grow tent. Temp max during summer around 80 and humidity is around 70-80%. It did not do well. Never grew pitchers, leaves turning brown at the edges. So for year it did nothing. This summer, I placed it outdoors here in texas. They were in my patio, shaded, would get direct sunlight for 3-4 hours. Temp max at 110f and humidity as low as 30%. I surprised they had more growth in a month. They are still outdoors, temps max is 80F but low of 60s. In a week I will move them inside. I have a video of the summer growth. And I will do an update before i move them in.

    Can I keep bulbohpylum in 55-60 night and 70-79 day with high humidity? Or would a low humidity warmer windowsill work?

  • @mokong4427
    @mokong44279 ай бұрын

    In my experiences, it would depend on the plant. Some takes a while to acclimatize, others just do really well at all. Others like my dennisii never had issues at all. My advise is, research on the bulbo your getting. Search more info, especially from forums, first hand experience of actual growers helped me a lot. Most of my species orchids are in a grow tent. The hybrids are by a windowsill.

    Bad idea with few days the s hooks will catch rust and sulphur due to high moisture around the area

    For sure. I removed those metal hooks and used the plastic Christmas gutter hooks for all my tank set ups.

    Thanks for sharing. I grew up in the Philippines. I remember hiking one time and one of the guides drank from a unformed pitcher. That time I’m not that interested in pitcher plants yet.

    Went home this June and a lot of wild ferns growing amongst the orchids that I mounted on the trees in our home. I have a more than 10 year old orchid with it. I just collected logs and place them on walls or on trees, and they grow a lot of stuff.

    Mahirap pala talaga ipa-pitcher ang bicalcarata 😅 Buti nalang nag pitcher pa. Dry air ba dyan sir?

    Sa grow tent high humidity. Pero max temp 78F. Sa labas naman early morning nakikita ko mga 88%. Pero once umiinit na nasa 30%. Sobrang init. Kala ko kaya ko kaso mainit sa pinas. Dito dry heat. So dry air talaga. Pero gusto ng bical. Siguro dahil sa sphagnum moss substrate.

    I've always had the impression that nepenthes need high humidity to survive or at least to produce pitchers. But as I researched more, watching how people are growing their nepenthes, it has become clear to me that adequate light and watering, and proper temperature range, are much more important to the overall health of the plant, while many can adapt to less than ideal humidity and still thrive. Now with your video of a bicalcarata pitchering in 40% humidity I'm even more convinced, so thanks for sharing! Also, I think the part where the ants live is the slightly thicker section of the tendril that connects to the pitcher.

    Research, watching videos, joining FB groups, forums were also the ways I learned. I kind of ran out of ideas regarding my bicals and growing them outdoors was my last option. I knew I can’t keep humidity at high levels, even misting is temporary with this heat, it won’t last a few minutes. I’m glad that I was able to share this experience. Oh, thanks for letting me know which part of the plant the ants live😂
