Steubenville Youth Conferences

Steubenville Youth Conferences

Our Mission:
Steubenville Conferences, an outreach of Franciscan University of Steubenville, have served hundreds of thousands of Catholics across North America since 1975.

In the spirit of St. Francis, our mission is "Go, Rebuild My Church."

Steubenville Conferences invite youth, young adults and adults into a life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ, empower them for discipleship, and equip them for the work of the New Evangelization.
Each summer, tens of thousands accept this invitation to grow in their Catholic faith through inspiring talks, dynamic worship and profound encounters with Christ in the Eucharist and Reconciliation.

This is one I needed to hear. I roll my eyes sometimes when religious talk about God loving us. My reply is, "How do you know?" It is difficult to go on hearsay when you need to hear it from the lover's lips. I sometimes wonder if there is limited real estate in Heaven. Why else would it be so damn hard to get there. So much testing, doubt, blind faith, and suffering you have to agree to.

The good Lord has brought me and my husband a same sex attracted neighbor. By providence I have been cooking him dinner once a week and showing him Christs love. I don’t know if he knows if I am a Catholic but I pray for him as I make the food. We never know how our Lord is using us to reach the suffering. May the good Lord be with you all ❤.

Say what? More confused than ever after listening to this. Since God made human beings and knows all too well how we communicate and listen, why can't he have a conversation with us just like human to human?. That's the question father Mike needs to answer.

I think Mike skipped over complexity (aka chaos) theory in his discussion of "Everything was pre-programmed at the Big Bang". Or maybe he thinks "God created complexity theory"? Keep moving the goalposts on physics to "God did it", like has been done by certain believers for 500 years?

It astounds me that Mike can't understand why exactly his brother didn't feel like he could tell him about his sexuality. No, Mike didn't preach about how gays should be bullied or stoned to death. But he also didn't preach that gays should be loved and treated the same way we treat heterosexuals. He didn't preach that gays should allowed to love their partner the same way straight people love their partner. No, because even so-called "good" pastors like Mike at the end of the day still feel a sense of disgust and aversion when thinking about two men or two women making love the same way that a man and a woman do, all because the possibility of creating a child isn't there. Cuz you know, you having or not having children is apparently Mike and god's business. To Mike, having children isn't seen as a personal choice that we all have the freedom to make for ourselves. No, because having sex can lead to reproduction, you can only have sex if you are at the very least open to the possibility of reproduction happening. Guess what Mike? Sometimes when women walk around (especially in cities), they get attacked and/or raped by someone. Do you take that to mean that if a woman decided to go walk outside, she must be open to the possibility of that happening? And what exactly does that mean? Does that mean that if she starts to get attacked and/or raped, she must just submit to the attacker and not even try to fight back? See, this is what happens when you apply your logic to other scenarios where I think it's safe to say you suddenly wouldn't argue that we should have to be ok with something just because it's a possibility. There are lots of things that are always possibilities of happening. Anyone could walk into my house at any time and try to rob or murder me. But does that mean that if someone does try to do those things, I should just have to accept it and let it happen? Of course not. That would be a ridiculous thing for anyone to even try to argue. Similarly, just because reproduction is something that can happen as a result of sex, doesn't mean it will happen, and it also doesn't mean that if it does happen, the couple affected must make their peace with it. We should be allowed to decide for ourselves whether we want to bring a life into this world. It's that simple.

Sister, this is the first time I have listened to you. When you sat down with your “Security Blanket” I could help but notice that you continuously kept rearranging your grip upon the blanket. As if it might escape from you. Oh Sister Merriam, I can’t imagine being given up for adoption by both of my parents. Your twisting and turning upon the blanket corners made me think about my own life. I was the 8th of 12 children and catechized by both of my parents than my school. And yet; in an apparent perfect world, I too am like you. I hope you realize that what happened to you; the loss of your parents and the adoption of new ones, never lets you forget that this was God’s plan for you. What happened before your conception and what happened after your birth was all part of God’s plan for you. I know this because I have lived long enough to be your father. Thank you for saying yes, just like Our Holy Mother, to the Will of Almighty God. Can I have your blanket?

The Typical Teenager! The Lord was a typical know it all Teenager running off from His parents and showing off His wisdom among the elders! Of Course He did know IT ALL!!!! When His Parents found Him knowing He is the Messiah reminded Him He must wait for, “I AM the Voice (Word) Crying (because He would be rejected) in the wilderness!” The reason for 18 years of silence! So when we see teenagers they are made in His Holy Image and Likeness!!!!!!!!!

Oh father Mike, what a gift! I happen to be watching this a day after my dad‘s 10th anniversary of his passing. My sister-in-law/best friend. Yes, I’ve talked about her a lot had a surprise for me on Sunday. When dad died although I was the closest to him I was not in a good place with the rest of my family. Things have changed and are much better now. But he had the time of his memorial and his funeral, which had to be done very specially because he was a fire chief and his men loved him. I was not allowed in any of the preparation my sister-in-law and my brother was still living, then watched as I sat by myself, looking at dad I couldn’t move a muscle. She wanted to come up and sit with me, but my brother wouldn’t let her. I was devastated crushed heartbroken. I was the oldest I was his daughter. He went the extra mile for me so many times. If at the time women could’ve been firefighters, I would’ve been one. So on Sunday, which was priesthood Sunday and we had a high mass, the choir, Father Brian, my favorite priest, saying mass. The homily was killer. I loved it. I laughed we were supposed to. But you know the part where you petition your prayers, and I am standing up course and the last prayer offered , Father Brian offered. And I thought I heard him say this mass, which is celebrated for Lawrence.M Walsh, and it was just that extra half seconds for it to process in my head that he was saying my dad‘s name. I didn’t know how he could know and I started crying and I turned Julie and she handed me the mass cards while she put her arms around me. And she said she’ll tell me about it after mass, so what I went up to receive I had half of my face in the middle of my face from crying and I was in father’s line he took a look, but he kind of knows me by now, so he knows it my face could be in the middle of my face for any number of reasons and soon mass was over. I said to Julie I need to talk to father I want to thank him well Julie knowing my ability to blubber pretty well. I was about a half a step ahead of me and she was the one that told him that it was dad and thank you for taking the time to do it. He looked at me and said he’s your dad and I said yes and I can’t thank you enough you have no idea what this means to me and he told me he was honored to do it, and I knew he was. He had my hand the whole time, but as he was telling me, he was honored to do it. He was holding my hand so tight. And we finished our private time with him and walk to the car and we got in the car and took off our veils and I took a look at myself in the mirror, and was like oh I look terrible, but it didn’t matter and he didn’t care I was there and that was the most important thing. And Julie said to me I did this for you. I have watched you suffer through every anniversary knowing that they didn’t let you do anything to help and how brokenhearted you were. So this is for you. This is your peace. Truly one of the nicest kindest things that anyone has ever done for me. Now I realize that your ministry is not generally to 66-year-old women tend to deal with a younger group, that doesn’t make the words you say, any less important when I listen to them. I do not go through the motions. I am there because I want to be. Some of those young people that they panned to in the audience have no idea what lies ahead for them. How much good will be in their lives, and how much sorrow will be in their lives. It is my hope that you drove your message home and that each one of them will show up and not just go through the motions.

I just listened to this because my daughter is planning to marry a non-Catholic. She is strongly considering marrying in his Protestant church. She is discussing things with HIS parents. I keep asking her, they need to come over so WE can discuss a plan. I plan to ask her (he might also) to watch this video and a few more I think are relevant. Thank you for taking the time to make these video which are so important to explain beliefs of the Catholic church. God has given you a great gift! So proud that you are not wasting it!!
