Using black pencil is a little scary for me, I found that it was too extreme for the work I was doing. I'd like to try it more though. I like how you used it here.
@JenniferMorrisonArtАй бұрын
I hear you! I like to layer black or 90% grey under other colors to darken the values. I almost always layer another color on top of the black unless I am coloring in a background. But, you're right, depending on what you are working on, it can be too extreme. I drew these apples a few years ago and find that I use black much less often now than I did back then.

Hi Jennifer, I have a question; Does prismacolor go well over Polychromos, and vice versa? I am struggling to blend different types of pencils, for example wax with oil pencils. I am weary to add Luminance and Lightfast with my Polys.
@JenniferMorrisonArtАй бұрын
Hello! I never experience any problems mixing different brands of pencils together in my drawings. Prismacolor and Polychromos are two of my favorites. I do it so much that I honestly don't give it much thought. If you want to test it, I recommend purchasing one or two individual Luminance or Lightfast pencils open-stock rather than buying an entire set. That way if you aren't happy with the result, you haven't wasted too much money. Good luck!

You could try a colorless alcohol-based marker like Copic or Prismacolor. Those work well. There are also alcohol-based colored pencil blender pens. You can also try a blender like Lyra Splender. Lastly, you can blend by burnishing with the pencils you are using for your project. Good luck!

Thank you! I would recommend light layers. I am using a very light pressure with the grey Prismacolor. I just want to deposit enough pigment to mix with the green to darken it. I find that this technique works best with green and blue. You have to be careful with red and I would never try it with pink or yellow. Good luck!
