I can never understand why people don't cover up their floors when decorating, this way they would avoid getting paint on them.

It never fails to impress me how well these floors clean up, given they are over 100 years old it's truly remarkable.

Damp meters are a great tool for this type of work, the last thing you need is to apply sealer to a damp floor, it really can affect the result.

It must have been a relief for the owner and no doubt the insurance company that you managed to restore the floor so well.

Hearth tiles covered by carpet, i've never come across that before!

I'm not sure what's worse, restoring a tiled floor that was covered in carpet or one that was covered in Vinyl. One thing for sure: a lot of hard work is needed.

Nice work Bill, I've just completed a similar floor restoration myself so I know how much effort goes into these projects.

Period features like this fireplace are very sought after and do add value to a property so they are well worth restoring.

Great restoration, I've just worked on one myself in South London and although tile replacements are easy to find it can be a struggle to find the right shade.

Good choice of sealer, Seal and Go Extra adds a nice sheen and is breathable so well suited for internal wet areas like utility rooms.

Colour Grow is a good choice of sealer for Victorian floors as it contains a colour enhancer that lifts the beautiful colours in the tile.

I assume the sealer was run over the grout lines as well as the tile so that that was also protected.

Colour Grow is ideal for bringing out all the colour and features in a tile so a good choice for Victorian tiles like these.

Nice work, I wouldn't have done it any other way although I often use X-Tra Seal on hallways as it's rated for external use.

I hope the dog is house trained, urine is acidic and could damage the new sealer.
@TileDoctorWestCheshireАй бұрын
Good choice of sealer, Colour Grow is breathable which means moisture from the foundation can rise through the tile unobstructed and evaporate naturally at the surface.

Lovely job, I've just been cleaning a Fireplace myself, this one was Limestone and had been accidentally stained with Red wine, fortunately I managed to remove the staining.

I always find it fascinating that we can renovate Victorian tiles back to new regardless of what may have happened to them in the past.

Slate is an ideal floor covering for a room like this however you do need to maintain the sealer or dirt will start becoming ingrained in the tile and you will be back to square one!

Those Carbide brushes are really good for abrasive cleaning, just the thing for neglected stone tiles like these.

Efflorescence results in white salt deposits being left on the tile as moisture evaporates at the surface, it needs to be cleaned off as soon as possible otherwise it can become stuck to the tile.

It's surprising what people do in their houses over time, why cover up a lovely fireplace and hearth, I guess it was fashionable at the time.

Finding replacement tiles isn't usually a problem as there are many suppliers, although fitting can be more tricky due to the imperial measurements that were used originally.
