I was born in '69 so I was just old enough to know that being gay was a death sentence. But her book is so much more; it's an interesting story of a girl from NM and it's really neat that her brother had such a short and interesting life, too. As a young gay boy from Dallas, I knew that the Perry Ellis line was exclusive since we had Neiman Marcus here. It's all fascinating.

Kim Addonizio has a lot of grit, grace, and confidence. I saw her read at an LA Times book event ("Festival of Books") at UCLA. She was on a panel other poets including the late Gerald Stern. I'm afraid what I recall most clearly is the creep of an MC/host who brought the readers up to do their section. He said something really inappropriate, cringy, sexist, and infuriating about Kim and everyone was in the audience (a good turn out! Several dozen at least. Not all grad students either!) She would have been in the correct frame to destroy this pipsqueak but instead she got up and read the fuck out of her work. I take back what I said, I remember two things clearly.

INGRAM CONTENT GROUP IS THE MOST DISGUSTING COMPANY ON EARTH. THE MANAGER WAS GIVEN FREE REIGN TO TORTURE ME FOR 8 MONTHS UNTIL I QUIT. THE PERVERTED MANAGER REPEATEDLY MADE SEXUALLY HARASSING STATEMENTS, REPEATEDLY SPREAD SLANDER AND OUTRIGHT FALSE STATEMENTS AND WOULD NOT STOP. THE HR DEPARTMENT ENGAGED IN MASS STALKING OF ME OUTSIDE OF WORK. THEY SHOULD BE IN PRISON. ITS ONE OF THE BIGGEST IMMORAL AND OUTRIGHT VIOLATIONS OF AN EMPLOYEES RIGHTS IN HISTORY.

Ellroy does not look good here. He scraped the idea of a second quartet. Maybe he realized he did not have time to finish those epics. It's hard to see him with little energy, but hopefully he was just with a flu. Keep going, demon dog!

What a wonderful perspective!!! I KNOW this from my indigene Natchee-Afreeka-Dutch-Scot ancestry's united generational work. As a 77 year living, widowed, made homeless in the U-ass-say after the Black Power shout-out on the Meredith March & a 2002 law of the Bahamas after my love crossed over behind the veil, self-exiled, COFO Miss'ippi Black woman, human / civil rights generational vet, I am glad & RELIEVED to see non-blacks move toward REAL spirituality & help their people stop believing in unjust racist/sexist/ageist etcetera DOGMA that makes the World hurt. You make me intuit that someday soon we shall all be free to live harmlessly & spiritually liberated. Thanx 4 bn here, m'breda. Love, love, love from the Bahamas to you & yours. 👽🥳😌❤‍🩹🤞✊🧜‍♀🦩🦜🐬🐠🌴🍍
