I understand that it’s supposed to be historical game. But it’s just that a game.. no one will die if he was white black Japanese Latino like I am just hoping that the game play and story lines are good. I am hoping that the plot will be deep and thorough throughout the game.

As a student of history Im aware of Yasuke and Im a little surprised about the controversy however not surprised about the ignorance of people and some of their inherent biases. If Ubi wanted to put a real character why not put Khalid bin Al-Walid the best warrior leader and strategist in history who conquered the Roman and Persian empires at the same time ? 🤔 and honestly i don't think they'll put him in their game because it doesn't fit their agenda 😅
Okay so I get what many says. Of course it’s a fiction, it’s a game. The guy did exist. But to what extent was he a warrior? We have no documents at all except that book from a foreign dude with lots filling in the blanks with speculation. The issue is that Ubisoft advertises the game by emphasizing “historical accuracy”. Though they retracted that by saying it’s mere fiction, you know that won’t cut it right? For us Japanese in regards to this game, we’ve been shoved a false history and was falsely advertised as OUR history. Finally when they got a back lash from people who know even a little bit of Japanese history, they retract that statement. Like no, they can’t end it at that. Oh and also the developer’s statement being like “Oh we couldn’t empathize with a Japanese character so we had to get “our own samurai”. Like wtf? Imagine a game dev saying we had to have a white character since we couldn’t empathize with a black character. They’d get cancelled to the ground. But I guess Asian representation is “abundant” so it doesn’t matter

Im 52 video gaming is one of the most racist experiences I have had. Online gaming helped introduce my children to racism. So nothing has changed . Im glad folks are butt hurt and its only because the character is black. its a video game you want history read a book.

I'm so tired of all these complaints. What people don't understand is the FACT that Assassin's Creed is a video game with a FICTIONAL story based on historical events, in short, AC is a work of fiction just like any Marvel or DC comics. Assassin's Creed story is not a retelling of actual history. The game is not a history sim. The story of Assassin's Creed revolves around the idea of a WHAT IF SCENARIO or an Alternate Universe where things that didn't happened in real history happened in that FICTIONAL UNIVERSE. People should wrap their head around that! Seriously people! You're complaing about a black samurai? Yasuke's character was based on a real historical African man (whose birth name is unknown) who serve as a retainer to the Japanese daimyō Oda Nobunaga so Ubisoft created a WHAT IF story around that fact. You people keep complaining but did you even think of the possibility that a foreign black man can become a samurai? Did you know that white man named William Adams became a samurai? You complain on such a very likely scenario but how about all those magic sh8t that happened since 2007? A super advance device called Apple of Eden that can project holograms and control people's mind? A super high tech advance civilization that predated humanity? What about those things? Why am I not seeing any complains about it?

You actually made me want to play this. I did know who Yasuke was I didn’t know what had happened to him after Oda Nobunaga committed Sepuku. I thought he was told to behead Nobunaga afterwards and hide his head….of course if that is true…..then position is EXTREMELY significant. However…. I didn’t know this was going on…. ….and I did not know whether Japanese/Japanese-Americans(Americans) were actually angry about it, so I just backed off until I could get what their opinions were. If you say, that they are okay with it, then I will buy it to support them.
Why not just be happy to just play the game and stop making a drama out of it because the character is not Japanese and yet he was part of Japanese history just because he is black.

I understand that now many people are saying Yasuke couldn't be a real Samurai because he didn't follow their imagined version of Bushido. Such as being taken alive and not fighting to the death. However, I have read many other historians have pointed out that the most famous "versions" of Bushido are not from the time period of Nobunaga and Yasuke, but are instead a later Edo Period invention. Thoughts, good sir?
Quite the thorough explanation, thank you! I think it's kind of the "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should." if I'd have to take a guess? While in and itself it should be not a problem, but lately we had a really rough film and game industry offerings with debatable and often questionable quality and story, hence why people react a lot more sensitively to such a topic. Not sure how much this is stemming from the 'woke' narrative, but this was quite an unfortunate timing to pull something like a black character in a japanese sengoku era as one of the main leads ^^; I live in the EU so there is not much drama like that going on around here - unlike in the USA - so this is a bit strange for me.
From a US person myself, a lot of people do not judge things on an individual basis. Instead most people in society have been trained to judge people and things in a sweeping manor. (a certain bearded man can be easily blamed for this increasing...) It's why rage bait is so popular here. You especially see it in the left vs right or democrat vs republican. Don't support abortion? Oh you must be a white supremist, misogynist and support trump! You have to be apart of that group and agree with them all. Thus making you a Nazi!
