Mr clay . I have talked to you on the phone a couple times now . I been a regular customer at Doug’s west Maui sports here in Lahaina, which of course is not here any longer. But some day I have got to get over there with Doug to fish with you or now your son. Me and you had long talk on the phone about bonefish . Looking to get my 20th . But what would be way better than that is to see Doug get one . Hopefully trying to get with you soon . Just had to relocate and get my feet back on ground. You are a really cool cat and hopefully you won’t throw me off the boat. Merry Christmas and rock and roll. 🎣🎸 The Armadillo

Molokai, fish didn’t break off. Boat is a Texas tunnel hull similar to a Shallow Sport. Last month made nine years in service, only boat like it in Hawaii. Over 800 trips so far.

Yes, dates posted are always same day. Weather is screwy so no matter the predictions, sometimes you have to look outside and see what’s happening. Never any guarantees, though, so one day at a time. We had NO sun entire trip, so sighting was challenging. You can see the heavy overcast

I am still contemplating getting a flyrod but I want a light one. That guy is using a 4wt rod? And the fish looks like about 5 pounds?
@molokaipake4 жыл бұрын
Negative, gear is a seven weight, Dennis is a big guy and makes the gear look smaller than it really is. For bones, nothing less than a seven weight is recommended, with minimum 200 yds of backing...
@sunysyup15904 жыл бұрын
@@molokaipake Thanks. I will consider a 7wt rod with matching reel.
@molokaipake4 жыл бұрын
SunySyUp for Bones I would suggest getting an eight Or nine weight, unless you only will be fishing for small ones. This seven weight is bare minimum. This is my personal gear that I let my client use. It takes a lot more skill to use a seven weight. An eight wt is average for majority of anglers.
@sunysyup15904 жыл бұрын
@@molokaipake OK, thanks again. I will check both 7wt and 8wt to see which will work for me. I catch mostly small oio, 1-5 pounders on Oahu using light spinning gear. I would like to try the flats here using a flyrod.
@molokaipake4 жыл бұрын
SunySyUp since you’re already know how to fight fish with light tckle, it would be a good move to graduate to flyfishing, as it requires an extra measure of skill. This Setup is highend but having good gear works for the long run. It’s a Sage Igniter rod and Sage Spectrum Max reel with Rio bonefish direct core line. Sage has one of the best warranty of any company. Worth to spend more but be covered for Life.
