Shop Talk With Dan The Man
Shop Talk With Dan The Man
The goal of this channel is not to overwhelm anyone with Facts on tools or benchmarks in performances between tool brands. The idea with setting up my channel is to show different types of tools in a shop and the uses they would have. Starting off in Carpentry can be overwhelming to anyone. What to buy and what you're doing for a project. Ridgid is the brand I use mostly, so most all my videos will be hands on reviews. I'm not a professional by any means in this area. All I would like to do is help anyone thats looking into a tool to see how it works and how it would make your shop function better. No matter the size of your shop you can always enjoy woodworking.

RIDGID 13" PLANER FULL REVIEW!! kzread.info/dash/bejne/gmqiprd8kdbJabg.html
Can the radio be plugged in to 110 electric?
Yes, it has a cord that’s wired full time to the radio. You can use power or battery 🔋. Your preference.😊Dan
Good concise information. Thanks Dan the man!
Thanks Doug!! 😊 Dan.
Why did it turn itself off @ 9:40?
The battery wasn’t clipped all the way. Surprised you noticed that. That’s only happened once and of course it was during the video of all times. lol. 😊Dan
@@ShopTalkWithDanTheMan Thanks Dan.
Thank you again
Your Welcome! 😊Dan
Thank you for the review. I have been holding off on buying a battery trimmer. I’ve always been a gas power fan.
Pros and cons to both. I’d say battery is great for small yards and convenience of no gas ⛽️ while gas has more power and long run time for big yards. It’s like most tools, they all serve a purpose depending on your needs. Thanks 😊 Dan
How do you get the stringer to feed more than 4 inches? The bottom piece of plastic that holds the cutter keeps cutting the line
Ricard, if you want long line you can remove the Guard all together and adjust it accordingly. Or remove the cutting blade. Just some suggestions. 😊Dan
Sorry for being 10 months late to comment. Is this branded AEG in Australia and New Zealand? Looks identical.
A lot of these companies share similarities in build and design. I wouldn’t be surprised if multiple companies use the same molds in factories and add the brand after. They can even change the colour with dye. The main difference would be the warranty they offer through the “label” or “brand”. Thanks 😊 Dan
When are you gonna do a lawnmower video? 😂
Well I would only be fitting to do one at this point!! lol 😂 (LAWNMOWER)
You only have one chainsaw behind you it has a longer blade then your other do they still make it?
It’s still RIDGIDs 12” chainsaw. I added a 16” bar and chain. Just for extra reach, not for cutting bigger (thicker) logs. 😊Dan.
One Year Review: kzread.info/dash/bejne/nWirzZlqhtCnlaw.html
Great video! And a bonus hint: the arrow marks ( the one on the bump head and the ones around the spool ) will help you align the parts for an easy refill. Align them; once aligned, the line will go through the head easily.
Good Hint to add for anyone refilling trimmer line!! 😊Dan
Great Video!! Look so easy to re-spool the twine on this product that is a huge plus in my books. Bobby
Thanks Bobby! Yeah, re-spooling was a pain until I used this product. So easy to do!!! 😊Dan
Дякую за огляд .
Dang this doesn't work with the old 9ah octane battery does it?
I believe it will. I have a 6ah for mine and it works great. Ridgid claims there batteries work on all their tools. Maybe not the 12ah due to size issues. Hope that helps. 😊Dan
wish I could find a 6 inch blade to fit mine. The 5 1/2 inch just barely cuts through a two by.
Is there any attachments coming out for this?
Ben, I’m really hoping so. I had one person tell me you can use Ryobi attachments on this because they are almost identical products. It would be nice to see that as a review. If I know someone that has them I will test it out. Thanks for watching. 😊Dan
@@ShopTalkWithDanTheMan yes definitely see if that works make a video
Full Review of this Tool: kzread.info/dash/bejne/a5N1qKenlLKodJM.html
I picked up one of these at a yard sale a few months back for a steal and aside from that "indi" plastic thing thats busted it's working great!
Stephen, great find!!! Mine still works great. Needs new blades soon. 😊Dan
Too bad the guide does not extend up to 24 inches
Jean, it would be nicer if it went past 24”! I guess worst case scenario you need extra wide cut you can use an extension table on the opposite side and rip the smaller piece by the fence. Or use a straight edge with a circular saw on saw horses. A bit of a work around, but doable. 😊Dan
Awesome review bud
Thanks!! 😊 Dan
Great Video!! always nice to see an old piece brought back to life and reused again. bobby
Thanks Bobby! 😊Dan
Very nice find and refurbished work. I was looking at the tongue and groove joinery and was thinking if I could do tongue and groove tasks with only a palm router. The Ryobi fixed base compact router is what I have. Some people say it is doable but best consistency and square is best done on a router table. What you think, sir?
I would say the compact router are designed for more edging on projects, however, if you made multiple passes to create the groove (depending on how deep) that should work. But to create a flawless tongue I’ve only seen done on a router table. They are always coming out with new jigs for shops, so maybe there is one out for that. With any joint you do, consistency is really the only way it works well. I’ve used a table and a plugged in fixed base router and got great results. The best way is to try it out and see how it goes with a scrap piece of wood. Let me know how you make out. You can often find a good deal on Amazon for an inexpensive table. Also, Canadian tire has great sales on every so often on router tables. Hope that helps. 😊Dan
Have you had any blade wobble issues with your Ridgid 12" Mitre Saw? I think I have a small wobble issue with mine since I can see it in the wood cut. It's only a few months old, but I seen some videos that people swapped the factory blade with a Diablo one and fixed the problem. Just wondering if you encountered similar issues with yours.
I have not had any issues with wobble. Maybe check you blade to see if it seated properly. It’s possible some dirt or grease might be interfering with tightening bolt. That might be just enough to give an issue. Other than that, maybe borrow a blade (if you don’t have one) to troubleshoot the blade issue. Overtime blades heat up and could set it off kilter slightly especially if it’s a cheaper blade with less heat distribution. hope that helps.😊Dan
@@ShopTalkWithDanTheMan yeah I heard that maybe some metal sharp edges on the washer that sits on the blade could stick out and set the blade off a bit. I will check that out. Thanks. Great videos, keep it up.
That's actually to put Ryobi Expand-IT attachments. I have an edger that works fine on the Ridgid power head. Also, the trimmer head is identical to the Ryobi head.
The letters are backwards; it's a glitch in the Matrix. You sure it's not supposed to say Neo?
lol!😂 apparently you took the wrong pill. Welcome to the matrix!!!!!
Very good demo.. thanks alot
Thanks!! 😊 Dan
If you hand the saw up on a nail by the metal ring that tucks away, the oil will leak into and stay in the chain guard. No mess really.
Good work around to redirect the oil!! 😊 Dan
Great Video on Blades Dan!! There is so much variety out there to consider and after watching your video I feel I have a better understanding of what to buy. Thanks for sharing. Bobby
Great to hear! The Goal of channel has always been sharing information on tools or shop related facts to help you, the buyer choose what's best for you. At the end of the day, just get out in your shop and enjoy the process of creating something!!:-) Dan
Wiah you had shown the blades for the 7 1/4 rear handle ridgid. It doesn't use a round hole. When I bought it I bought a 3 pack of Diablo blades, Turnes they have a pop out to make them work.
Something to definitely be aware of when buying blades. Most stores will allow returns if it’s the wrong product as long as it’s not used. I’m glad in your case you could use the Diablo blades by popping out the metal near the hole. Thanks 😊 Dan.
You did a great job. I’m in the market for a mitre saw and was looking at this one at HD. Seems to be a good price. I don’t have a workshop so I was thinking of getting the stand with wheels that’s available. How do you like it after 9 months? Any issues?
Thanks 😊!! It’s built like a tank and runs really well. No problems or issues so far. If or when I do I will post. I have it registered with the LSA program so if it fails I’ll get it fixed for free!! 😊 Dan
Finally. Someone with real power tools that are actually worth buying.
Can’t Go wrong with build quality and LSA service agreement!!!
What a dad folks👍! Great message though Dan. And a pretty nice marker just from using whatever you had kicking around your shed.
Thanks brother!! 😊

I think the nice thing the cheaper large sets is that you have lots of options to do all the work you want with out setting yourself up either only a few options. By the time you wear one out, you will know it’s worth investing in a better bit of that type. The drawback of buying an expensive large set is that you are not likely to use them all
Exactly!!For the average person this is a great set to have for cost and quantity. As you develop your skills buying the more expensive ones or as these ones wear out that would be a good option. I’m sure most of us are in the same boat weighing cost vs usage when it comes to tools. Thanks for watching and commenting! 😊 Dan
They are a good set to have as you get a lot of variety for not too much money.I have all Lee Valley bits but also own the Maximum 40+ set for work that may damage my more expensive ones
A note on how many ah your battery has and about how long does it run on the battery for you. That would be helpful.
It was a 6ah battery I used and on setting 1, lasting about an hour. It would be less on setting 2. It’s good to note, it’s also based on grass hight and thickness. Higher and thicker grass would draw more power. Age of battery would factor in as well. Hope that helps some. 😊Dan
IF YOU ARE SHORT, DO NOT BUY THIS TRIMMER!!!! At 5'3", this is a monster to use. My brother at 5'8" has trouble with the length as well. If you're under 6' tall, this trimmer is not ideal unless you really want to work on your arm strength.
Thanks for your comment. I am 5'9" and have not experience any issues with weight. however, i will say you can add a smaller battery to change the weight or adjust the handle to balance it better. Worst case you can purchase a strap to carry the weight on your body. Here is an example of a strap you can buy: www.amazon.ca/Trimmer-Shoulder-Adjustable-Harness-Durable/dp/B0CPBND2KW/ref=sr_1_9?crid=16PIP9ZCFHFY2&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.155TflVNZF6BQR2TOsmlLWHyQHjHrc7EJnfd_Ue_5-orPn_6RW0-PLNTjbX4i2iGrOM1dQg9nzIJ9xPesxMpDw3RUX4zRbr0NkGoKiub_X1B70kglSpjoTFsztqEdHnGt4ghfzu2wVcxWRpkKOHVtk9AhNkQPa_5luIpYr8KE4eVJr3SLFwhGRaXe9sF9iTNc2GCmG7Ic0Bgv04lg1ZC-XVz8_TbcjCDZlxJz4FTGU8sa9DXU1p6AMa6_xeYhm6CsW7rTkSDoGZXUSrA1eyA_KUJ9FSvhJQPsUqi9beBiA4.hW7B-Ivnyedrov2T4uJTP5FFVTZ4ZbIMuzbe_W6nk7M&dib_tag=se&keywords=string+trimmer+strap&qid=1715702526&sprefix=string+trimmer+handle%2Caps%2C179&sr=8-9 Hope this information helps. :) Dan
Thank! Great video
Thank you! 😊 Dan
Ty for this review ive watch 4 or 5 different vids on here and you was the most thorough. I'm deciding between this on and a ryobi and you've helped out a bunch. I will be liking and subscribing.
I’m glad I could be of help with your overall decision. Whenever I do tool reviews, I try to give the best and detailed information I can. That way it helps people to make the best decision and buy the best tool for their needs. 😊Dan
RIDGID CHAINSAW REVIEW: kzread.info/dash/bejne/i4x6mthxfpfNhpc.html
can You install a brush blade on the Ridgid String Trimmer
No, according to the manual on page 5 you cannot use any type of blade. 🙂Dan
The ridgid trimmer can use the ryobi expand-it attachments and theybhave a tiller attachment among many others
Very cool!! Thanks for sharing! 😊Dan
DIYer champion!!
You’re right Ron!! 😊Dan
Great channel !!! "Important to wear pants" 😂😅😂 That made me crack up 🇨🇦
Thanks,Glad you enjoyed it!! 😊Dan
I noticed a new bar and chain on your Ridgid chainsaw. How do you like that setup?
Good eye!! Yes I love it. Better reach as I cut. But I still can’t cut a full bar (16 inch) of wood too much on the motor. But if it’s just to extend your reach, it’s perfect setup. 😊Dan
How do you refill strings
That’s a good video for me to do soon 😊. Here is a link in the meantime: manuals.ttigroupna.com/system/files/12953/original/R01201_106774001_062_trilingual_04.pdf?2024 Check out page 📄 4 & 5. That will show you how. Hope that helps Steve. 😊 Dan
I have Dewalt, Milwaukee and of course Ryobi. Each tool has it's type of purpose according to how often I use them. Their small worklight is awesome for under-sink or closet sized spaces compared to my Milwaukee M18 "Rocket" light. The blower is great for dusting off my tools at the end of the day. A quick dusting and it does warm up if I keep it on for a continuous minute so I dust items off, put those away, allowing the blower to cool for a minute or 2 while strowing away tools, blow dust off again and it does it's work well. Great DIYer's line of tools. I'm very curious of their Link system for my 11 year old son. For now he has a thin plastic toolbox that is flimsy enough to not line up upon closing and one of the 2 clasps have snapped off, the handle comes out sometimes.
