    Good to see this, a real world acceleration test instead of those motorcycle magazine test who take a super light and very experienced rider for the acceleration test.

    Thanks, I starting riding motorcycles 10 months ago, so I am indeed a beginner. I rode automatic maxi scooters beforehand and where I live, I was able to buy directly a non power limited motorcycle without any additional course or test.

    On my TL 508, I had an issue with excessively high oil consumption (~0.75L/1000km). Initially, I was told that the tolerance is up to 1L/1000km, but the issue was escalated to SYM, and my engine was replaced under warranty at 4000 km. This problem seems to affect very very few models (my dealer had heard of only one other case in Switzerland). Since the replacement of my engine, it still consumes a bit of oil (~0.25L/1000km), but I frequently use highways, and I've also installed 13g rollers at 5000 km (which means the engine revs higher). Apart from that, eveything is fine.

    What was the reason of excessive oil consumption? I'm looking for a maxi scooter too and the 508 TL is one of the scooters I'm eyeballing.

    Same situation here buddy i came to SYM TL 508 from Kymco Xciting 400s and the difference is how smooth the SYM is and it handles better and the suspension is far better. Kymco is faster and more dynamic at start better acceleration but this pulls better after 50 60 kmh. What is the maximum speed you achieved and fuel consumption after the break in period and did ypu had amy issues with the bike so far? Cheerz

  • @vincent2167

    You perfectly summarized it ! I never tried to test the max speed, I managed to reach around 150 km/h without any issue. I actually had my engine replaced under warranty at around 4000 km because the engine oil consumption was high (greater than 0.5 liter per 1000km). No issue since then. Still a bit of oil consumption, but that could be because I do a lot of highway (regularly up to 120 km in one day). I installed 13gr rollers and my consumption is around 4.8 L/100 km. These light rollers improve significantly the performance, here is a comparison I made: kzread.info/dash/bejne/kYihqq-pcpbfaLg.html

    @@vincent2167 Wow that's a pretty serious stuff...Replacing engine at only 4000km is a big deal. Are you famiIiar that this problem happened on anyone else or it was just yours as an isolated unit?I hope it won't happen on mine...🙄But i guess you only get as much you pay. TL 508 is almost half the price of Yamaha Tmax and almost 6000 euro less than Honda Xadv in my country. You can never go wrong with the Japanese but they are too expensive...

    If you often ride solo in the city, a lighter lower cc scooter could indeed make more sense. Past 50 km/h the TL 508 is much faster than any 350/400cc scooter (especially over 100 km/h). I had a Kymco Xciting S with a Polini variator just before this one, so I speak from experience. As I ride a lot on the highway for my commute, this scooter is significantly better. It is not in the same league of smaller cc scooters in terms of : - Handling : The TL has a motorbike like chassis - Suspension : So much more comfortable according to my passenger - Acceleration at highway speed Cherry on the cake: The exhaust noise of this 2 cylinders is great.

  • @surdzo

    @@vincent2167 I agree with you but only if ride 80/20 in favor of highway, majority of scooter riders, ride their vehicles in urban areas and rarely ride on highways during the year. So most of riders appreciate 350-400 because of their nippiness. My opinion is that if i really have lots of highway rides i would always go with proper motorcycle instead of any scooter for that matter. Especially if you take in consideration the price of 500+cc scooters. For me it is pointless to purchase yamaha tmax for example for 18.000 eur instead of Tracer 9 GT for same price or less. Or honda xadv 750 instead of Africa Twin, NT 1100 or Trans Alp 750.

    What is the max speed with 15gr and 13gr rollers?

  • @vincent2167
    @vincent2167 Жыл бұрын

    I didn't test the top speed with the speed limitations around. On the 13gr, I reached one time 154 km/h (141 km/h GPS). The RPM was around 6750 which is the maximum power band of the scooter, which means that until 154 km/h, we don't lose in acceleration vs a stock 15 gr setup.

    I am very happy with my purchase. Here is a quick comparison with my former EURO 4 Kymco Xciting S 400 equiped with a Polini variator: TL 508 pros: - Much better comfort and stability when driving - Very smooth transmission which allows to drive relaxed in short city ride (it was very on/off on my xciting, probably due to the Polini variator) - Slight performance increase at high speed - I LOVE the sound of the bicylinder TL 508 cons: - Not the fastest to take off from a green light (the S400 was quicker from 0 to 50-60 km/h) - For my usage, I found more convenient to have a handbrake on the handlebsar rather than the side stand braking implemented on the TL - Chain transmission which required some maintenance For my usage which includes regularly 130km of highway in one day, the TL perfectly fits my needs. For someone who is only doing city driving and wants the best acceleration within city speed limits, a EURO4 S400 with a variator may be a better choice (can't comment on the EURO5 version which is less powerful).
