I’ve stated this on another video of FTAB from Bilbao ‘10: It’s kinda bittersweet, this one. On one hand, Malcolm was pretty affected by his diagnosis here, and it is his very last song, and I, as well as most others here, I imagine, loved everything about his playing and personality. But we need to remember that it wasn’t only the end of an era, but also the start of a new one, when he was succeeded by Stevie, who plays incredibly well, but in his own style. He doesn’t try to copy Malcolm, but despite having his own style, he captures his energy and spirit really well, and for that I respect him. Besides, Malcolm really put his heart and soul into this one, as he did with every performance, and he seemed to really love what he did. And people, name a better song to end his career with than For Those About To Rock. I dare you.

Yasss. 💯 Saw it done in Minneapolis '92, March 3. Those boys took us to actual church with that Zoo TV arena tour. Unreal.

No, it's not Chicago 2005 on dolec1234 is better except for the "US Army" part - song it's about sacrifice, having no way out, except moving forward, the context can be whatever you struggle in life

Como dijo Bono años después: "Fuck the mainstream". We didn't want it"... "Wasn't where we are feeling like right now". "We are into ZooTV". "I am into it; we are into it and I really think that the real U2 fans that have been around, they'll be into it. We might lose some of the pop-kids but we don't need them"

The ZooTV tour version of Running to Stand Still is definitely the best version. It's a musical and theatrical masterpiece. The angst and the arm rubbing. The junkie pacing the room, desperate for relief. The stab of the needle - then the great release. The great relief of heavenly hallelujahs. The coming to the Lord. The calling to the Lord. Everything about these five minutes elevates this song to the highest level. But man, oh, man, does it make me wonder what the heck happened to Bono. He's certainly a shadow of his former self. I haven't seen a transcendent live performance since the Elevation tour. I hope the last album of their career recaptures the glory.

I too wondered?? I think Bono started to care and want to be liked by everyone vs carring less and especially having U2 being liked by younger pop listeners forcing the band to make sissified soft music the past 20yrs to keep them playing vs sitting at home in ireland because rock pretty much died in the music industry. Very sad and I woullf never have imagined they could derail in my lifetime of listening, buying albums, imports, attending all concerts.

@@casinolive_ Yes, agreed. On one hand, I appreciate any new music that they put out. I'll probably always find a few songs per album that I enjoy. That being said, he is very open about staying "radio relevant" and that the trick for him and the band is creating fresh, innovative music that is also universally appealing and attracts a new audience... and works well in a live show. So they try to thread that needle and they, to a large extent fail because they become paralyzed by studio overproduction and the pursuit of perfection. Their music gets watered down. Becomes the warm bowl of oatmeal that is inoffensive but also doesn't really get anyone excited. Two other points: First, he always said U2 would "knock it on the head" (ie. quit) of they ever start repeating themselves. Then about half way through their career, they released three greatest hits albums, toured the Joshua Tree and now, most recently, released a reworking of their catalogue of songs (acoustically) and will be touring ZooTV come this autumn. That's not the same Bono and band from the Achtung Baby era. Secondly, his music is now infused with milquetoast political statements. Yes he was always political BUT he used to pride himself on being non-partisan and on the campaign for love and human decency. Over the last decade, he has full on switched to campaigning as a liberal, a Democrat, an advocate for the WEF, big celebrities, corrupt politicians and big business. Whether one agrees with his stances or not, it is a major change from his protesting during the 80s. He is biased, partisan and wants you to just trust that he knows best while simultaneously alienating the conservative half of his and U2's audience. So, he and the band have changed a lot on ways they swore they never would and they are in denial about it, at least publically. This much is clear, having read his autobiography; he still thinks he's the scrappy/punk/post-punk spokesman for a generation. He's not, which is too bad but... there are worse things in life and as a whole, I'm glad U2 existed and I deeply value much of their body of work - and that's a wonderful thing. It's just too bad we can't get a few more bangers out of them before they hang it up.

@@esperagoI don’t think the band has any problem losing its conservative fans, they’re the most hateful ones so they have no business listening. Pearl Jam has always been big advocates for abortion and pride and they have no shame in losing conservatives.
