Sam, you have stated some nonsense about Hinduism and India, and your comparison to Western values is completely flawed and intellectually shallow…. Firstly, Sati was a fringe practice that goes against the tenets of the Bhagavad Gita (one of the major Hindu texts) since suicide is considered to be the biggest sin. It was very rare, and had been abolished at times before the British came. The caste system is not an integral part of Hindu religious belief, but more of a societal issue; think about it, what caste are the Hare Krishnas (they don’t have any caste, but are still Hindus)? The caste system has been blown out of proportion by the West. How does the caste system compare to the brutal slavery that the West was responsible for against Africans and then the racist attitudes of the West towards other human beings? Remember MLK drew inspiration from Gandhi, an Indian, in order to rid segregation of the African Americans in the U.S. The West has been responsible for witch burnings, slavery, racism, genocide (Native Americans, Jews in WWII), brutal imperialism, segregation, oppression of homosexuals, and the dropping of atomic bombs that incinerated over 200,000 innocent children, women, and men, numerous wars and support of cruel regimes all over the world, etc. The West still eats animals on a daily basis and displayed a total disregard for non-human life. The progress that the west has made has primarily been made possible with the exploitation of other humans. The British empire, extracted resources from other lands. The U.S. was established on the territory of Native Americans after stealing their land and killing them off, and was made prosperous economically by the forced labor of slaves taken from Africa. Essentially, while the West certainly has produced many great inventions, don’t forget that witch burnings, imperialism, slavery, genocide, segregation, stealing land, the atomic bomb, apartheid, etc. are also Western “advances”. In contrast, the Hindu civilization (India), which is thousands of years older, has not participated in any imperialism whatsoever. India never invaded any other country, was devoid of slavery, respected the sanctity of all sentient life; it gave the world tenets of nonviolence, spirituality, yoga, vegetarianism, notion of karma, etc…. 70% of the world’s vegetarians are in India, showing how comparatively backward the west is with respect to respecting the sanctity of all life…In India, do you see kids being shot up in schools? The rest of the world is confused by the obsession of guns in the U.S. and the inability to protect children at school…It’s needless to say that spiritually, India has always been far advanced compared to the West. And don’t forget the fact that the divorce rate in the U.S. is 50% compared to 1% percent in India. And western countries on average have a very high divorce rate. Effectively what that suggests is that the west has completely failed miserably compared to a place like India when it comes to the institution of marriage. What good are all the inventions when you can’t even keep a family unit together?…In countries like India, parents are respected, and taken care of whereas in large part in the West, the elderly are just thrown into nursing homes. How advanced is that? Are those human rights? Let me reiterate that India has been spiritually, way more advanced, and has shown more success in keeping families together than the West… Incidentally, Hinduism is one of the few religions in the world that does not condemn homosexuality, in contrast to the Western religions. India has had a female head of the country, Hinduism is the only religion in the world that worships the feminine form and energy. India just passed a bill that would insure 30% of seats in the parliament reserved for women. Has the U.S. done that? So where are the human rights? India has been accepting toward every religion for thousands of years. It is one of the few countries in the world in which there was no discrimination or hatred against the Jews. So I suggest that you rethink your notion of human rights being a western invention, particularly in the context of the holocaust, hatred towards Jews, racism, segregation, etc. Overall, the Indian civilization has shown a far greater respect for life and has killed (and inflicted pain upon) less number of both human beings and other sentient living creatures compared to the West. With respect to the West and India, next time maybe you should think more broadly and do some homework before talking. You don’t want a “pot calling the kettle black” (a Western phrase) situation.

The worst thing about the plane isn't that it's in the air, it's that it's a little cramped tube that I can't get out of until after landing, a claustrophobic feeling and a trapped feeling that's at its worst when the plane starts rolling and it's too late to get off. Larger planes with more interior space are somewhat easier to deal with than smaller ones. Other closed in and/or trapped situations (like cave tours with narrow tunnels and getting MRIs) are also difficult. Closing my eyes during takeoff helps, and after reaching cruising altitude, getting lost in distractions helps. During an MRI a year ago, keeping my eyes closed and focusing on the patterns of the sounds helped. The anxiety of panic attacks tends to come in waves. At the peak of a wave, there's a very heavy sense of impending doom, then after a little time passes the severity comes down though not completely, but then it comes up again to another horrible peak, over and over and over again. After a severe panic attack episode, hours to days of not feeling well physically and being emotionally shaken up. Tried CBT decades ago, didn't help. Paxil (SSRI) helped though it caused weight gain. Have recently started trying meditation a little bit but not yet a consistent or dedicated practice. I've been wondering lately if there might be a way to try to desensitize at home such as if there was a simulated flight option through a VR headset or somewhere a bunch of videos of flying from the point of view of the seat on a plane to maybe habituate to the visual cues that trigger panic, because it's too expensive to fly frequently enough to desensitize that way. There's probably no single solution or simple solution for severe anxiety, and different treatments or combinations of treatments are likely to be more suitable for different people rather than one size fits all.

I repeat again: FGM is (for the most part) worse but it's both Genital Mutilation without consent and done because of religious/superstitious nonsense. Any mutilation to the human body should only be done with consent or if it's necessary due to health issues that make it necessary. Rod it's simple 1. Truth is the set of facts about reality. 2. Peterson wants to champion a bad idea. (An idea we don't have evidence is true: that god(s) exist.) 3. So he redefines truth to both (a) the set of facts of reality and also (b) things which help us survive. 4. It's a clearly dishonest and self-contradicting definition. (A gunmaker makes a gun someone uses to kill the gunmaker. Is it true the gun works? Well Peterson would have to answer both yes (because the gun worked) and no (because the gun killed the maker).)

If you can tell someone's beliefs from their actions, such as if you believe you can fly you will jump off a high place without hesitation, then no one believes misgendering and the pronoun game are actually real things. If you refer to any normal person by the wrong pronouns, it doesn't even register, or at worst doesn't even phase them. Meaning, that is the normal reaction of someone who knows the truth of who/what they are. Therefore we can deduce that if someone has a very divergent reaction, it casts severe doubt on what they profess to believe about themselves. They know the truth, they just don't like it. And they want the rest of the population to also deny the truth.

This might be the first time I’m disappointed with Peterson. He’s absolutely, fundamentally wrong about truth. I wish that Sam Harris used a video recording of his wife cheating instead of pictures of his wife with another man… truth is not relative to its utility. The smallpox lab analogy was great. Whether or not scientists use the smallpox for good or for bad has no bearing on the molecular makeup on smallpox. Let’s take it to water… one lab is using H2O to do bad things and one lab using H2O to go good things. It doesn’t change the truth of the fact that the molecule they are working with is H2O. “The concept of truth flows free of anyone’s intention.” I’m really surprised at Peterson. Still love him though.

Hi. :) you are smart. Say is saying truth is definite. Jordan is saying truth is only a measurement from a level of certain analysis. Besides his articulation, Sam is ultimately wrong.
This shill is a zog bot that attacks islam and Christianity. You never hear him speak about Judaism (more vile than quran and bible combined) How come sam harris NEVER mentions pedophilia of his own religion practice Metzitzah B'peh. He is an agent of the Zionist to make you hate other religions except his satanic one that does pedophilia and killing innocent Palestinians
Someone prove me wrong and show me where he mentions jewish pedophilia ritual happen TO THIS DAY IN NORTH AMERICA AND OTHER EUROPEAN NATIONS
The moment you realize that such a short video has the potential to reshape the course of your life. The ideas are simple but presented in a subtle way.
He realizes all stoic philosophers thought atheism was on par with abandoning reason altogther and often debated against Epicureans who denied providence right? Even David Hume held that belief.
I’ve been listening more to Jordan recently, and listening to this conversation a second time REALLY made me understand Jordan’s position. While I agree with Sam, Jordan is making a different claim, and I understand why he’s doing it.
joran thinks religion is a usefull fiction.
@@Wildminecraftwolf yes, but it made me question how deep fiction mirrors/creates reality
@@jaylouis6156 yea the mind can construct elaborate and internaly consistant delusions, its job is to simulate reality based on inputs after all. if you input the bible you can get one reality, but that does not mean there is not an objective external reality, it better to base your internal model of reality on empiricisim and rationality rather than a usefull ficion.
@@Wildminecraftwolfno he's saying what you refer to as fiction is actually more real and true than mere facts observable in the objective world. You think the scientific framework is the only viable way in which to view things. But you don't realize that you're making that presupposition because it seems self evident. But the scientific viewpoint is actually a recent invention.
@odysseynoone3831 I know he's saying that, I just disagree, listen to his pangburn talks with Sam harris, he dismantles his arguments quite well. When he says it more "real" he's saying it's more usefull, peterson is kind of disingenuous with his wordplay in this area.
Imagine someone having the pronouns massa/massa's.
My pronouns are all the digits of pi, and all the digits of the square root of two. Good luck.
Everybody is afraid of the Muslims, the bullies of the planet. They are afraid of admitting that they are afraid in fear that Muslims will accuse them of being afraid.
I'm as relieved now that I'm not living in Canada as I am not to be living in Afghanistan, Iraq, etc. This is beyond insane. It's almost as if stupidity is some sort of new syndrome yet to be discovered.
Sam literally has such a simple argument that takes absolutely NOTHING into account. political, socioeconomical, geopolitical, historical, this guy literally thinks islam promotes cliterectomies. This guy LITERALLY knows NOTHING about islam even the most anti islamic thinkers know better than him😂😂😂😂
Science is a western breakthrough. I think the people burned at the stake would love to disagree
sam has no clue what he is talking about. remember his dead babies comment? Sam obviously is not taking everything into context Sam literally believes, islam promotes cliterectomies😂😂😂 this guy literally knows NOTHING about islam
I posed this question to my students when I was a high school teacher… Is truth relative or absolute? By definition, truth is ABSOLUTE
Hello Sam harris
I understand what Yuval is saying when he said _"Suffering certainly isn't pain"_ but in some cases in using the word 'suffering', you are describing the conscious experience of pain. For example, if a dog got hit by a car and was still alive but in pain, you wouldn't say that the dog is paining would you? No, you would say that the dog is suffering, suffering from pain.
Hearing Sam Harris explain things for the first time is like being suddenly cured after a lifetime of deafness.
but sam, the entire mathematics, algorithm, algebra etc were all arab inventions! and these inventions werent used to make zealotry more accurate as far as i am concerned
"Do you have kids?" "No, just dogs." "That explains a lot." If Harrari had cats, they might help him meditate - after my second vipassana retreat, my landlady's cat would sit on my lap while I was meditating and fall asleep. I couldn't get up while it was still sat there!
Sam is much smarter and clearer. Jordan twists the meaning of the word Truth, to no gain in understanding.
